Upcoming Events

When the month of February rolls around we think of Valentine’s Day and love.

History tells us that Valentine was a man who did good things for others. Another

name that is synonymous with the word love is Jesus. God showed his true and

unconditional love for us by sending his only Son, and he has asked us to give that

same kind of selfless love to others.

This month and every month let’s celebrate and be a channel of God’s love,

pouring out to others what he has given us: a selfless love—one committed to the

well-being of others.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does

not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily

angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices

with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always

perseveres.”

Thank you for letting us LOVE your children!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Debbie

In-House Field Trip Birthday In A Bag

February is Dental Health Month. To help us educate our

children on the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and

gums, Dr. John Simmons, DDS will be on campus Friday,

February 26. Dr. Simmons will dress the children up as teeth,

demonstrate effective brushing techniques (with a SUPER

large toothbrush), and flossing. He will end his presentation

with a short Charlie Brown video . It’s a day your child will

not want to miss!

We hope that you will join us in our efforts to spread love

through our February Mission Project. This month we are

partnering with the Southeast Co-Op to provide birthday bags

for needy families. The birthday bags need to be filled with

items to celebrate a child’s birthday. Some examples of

items to place in a birthday bag include

a cake mix, icing, candles, party plates,

party napkins, party favors, a small gift,

etc. Every child’s birthday should be

special. “Birthday in a Bag” will give a

needy family that opportunity!

Vis ion Screening for

3 & 4 Yr Old Classes

A representative from Prevent Blindness Georgia will be on

campus on Thursday, February 18 to conduct free vision

screenings for all 3 and 4 year old classes. A form explain-

ing this screening process will be sent home next week.

If you DO NOT want your child screened,

please complete the form and return it to

your child’s teacher. Otherwise, all

students in 3 and 4 year old classes will be

screened.

We Love Chapel: Chapel for Parents, February 11

On Thursday, February 11 we are inviting all parents to come and join your child’s class for Chapel time where the theme for the

day will be “We Love Chapel”. Invitations went home last week. We hope you will consider joining us for this special time.

Our school’s largest fundraiser is just around the corner and parent volunteers are needed to make it a success. Even if you

cannot work an entire shift, please consider donating any amount of time you can give to this great cause. Volunteers are greatly

needed and appreciated!

Donations of gently worn clothing and used toys are being accepted. Donations can be dropped off in the preschool office

Monday through Friday until February 19.

Safety Drills (February 9 & 23)

Georgia state statute requires all schools to have a school safety plan to address policies and procedures for all disasters, natural

or otherwise. The planning for all of our drills is overseen by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. I wanted to make

you aware of our drills in case you would like to discuss them with your child, emphasizing that all of these drills are for practice.

We will be having our second required Tornado Drill on February 9. The tornado drill will be activated by a bullhorn.

On February 23, we will be conducting a Lock Down Drill. Our goal at all times is to ensure the safety of our students and staff,

to keep parents informed, and to prevent any unnecessary anxiety. Teachers will explain the drill to the students in advance.

They will talk about ways that you keep them safe at home and ways that we keep them safe at school. They will also explain

what they will be doing during each stage of the drill.

Level 1 - Teachers will lock their classroom doors and children will carry on with their day as usual.

Level 2 - All SUMC doors will be locked and the children will continue to work and play quietly.

Level 3 - The children and teachers will huddle silently in the “safe spot” within the classroom.
