FerroPem around the World (Part 1) : CHINA as a new target !

As China is the fastest growing market for foundries in the world, FerroPem has

decided to expand its activities in China. The production capacity of iron

foundries is enormous with around 26 million tonnes per annum. The major part

with 17 millon tonnes is still gray iron followed by 8.7 million tonnes of ductile

iron for 17 thousand foundries. If we look at the average foundry size, it is 1357

tonnes compared to Germany with 6481 tonnes for 205 foundries and 3 million

tonnes of cast iron per annum. The car sales are expected to increase by 10%

each year, as the Chinese middle class is growing very fast. Continuous

developments in the infrastructure of the country contribute to a sharp increase of the capacity of thefoundries in the construction sector.

FerroPem has therefore decided to employ Mr Xintian Ran in order to develop this market. As the

Chinese language is still a barrier of communication with foundries, it is logical to develop our sales in

China with a Chinese native knowing not only the business manners but also administrative

particularities of the country. Xintian Ran is based in Shanghai and has his office in the former

Pavillon of Rhône-Alpes at the ground of the World Expo 2010.

After having shipped the first trial materials to China, we will start the qualification of our products

with Chinese customers very soon.

Paris MIDEST 2011 & VII Fórum Técnico Internacional de Fundición -

Bilbao : presentation and sponsoring by FerroPem

Last September, Mr Alberto GIACOMONI,

one of our Technical Managers, gave a

presentation on Austempered Ductile Iron

during the 7th

International Technical

Foundry Forum in Bilbao (Spain). He shared

his detailed knowledge and expertise on ADI

during FerroPem’s contribution to this forum.

Last November, FerroPem was also one of the

proud sponsors and contributors of the French

Foundry Technical Association (ATF)

meetings attended during the MIDEST Fair in

Paris (France).

Strontium Crystal

Inostrong® : Strontium based inoculant Inostrong

®is a powerful Sr containing inoculant carrying

low levels of Al and Ca, particularly suitable for chill

reduction and providing a very effective inoculation for both

grey and ductile irons.

Inostrong

®

eliminates chill phenomenon in thin sections andthe resulting freedom from hard carbides at casting corners

and edges permits faster machining rates and reduces tool

wear. A grey iron when inoculated with Strontium does not

increase its number of eutectic cells and thereby minimizes

the appearance of micro-shrinkage defects. The effectiveness

of Sr containing inoculant is improved by maintaining a low Al level that reduces the tendency of the

iron to react with the mould creating hydrogen which manifests itself as surface pinholes in the

casting.

Inostrong®

can be delivered with 75 Si basis or 50 Si basis (called Inostrong 50®). Granulometry can

be grain or powder (called Inolate 30®

with 75 Si content) and products delivered in big bag, drums

and/or paper bags.

Please contact FerroPem or your local distributor for any samples or details on these products.

FerroPem around the World (Part 2) : Swedish fair

The fair "Elmia Subcontractor" is the Northern Europe leading

subcontractor trade show with 1200 exhibiting companies from 30

countries. Elmia Subcontractor in Jönköping, Sweden, is a good opportunity to get

an overview of the industry. Being the leading trade show of its kind it

attracts "everyone" connected to the Swedish subcontracting industry.

The exhibitors are keen to display their product news and innovation

making the fair an excellent way of discovering trends and get

inspiration for new solutions. An independent survey shows that 61% of

the visitors make new business contacts during the fair.

Last November our Swedish distributor GiAB was present there,

sharing a booth with a local foundry association called SJMF, to present

our large range of inoculants, nodularisers, cored wires and blocks.

DIS and Metalcasting Congress : appointments in the US in 2012 formeeting FerroPem !

In addition to previous fairs and technical meetings already stated in this Newsletter, FerroPem will

participate to 2 sessions in the US in 2012 :

-  Firstly, at the 116th Metalcasting Congress – organized by the American Foundry Society -

in Columbus, Ohio, from April 17th

to 20th

-  Then to DIS (Ductile Iron Society) Congress from June 6th to 8th in Muskegon, Michigan.

You can meet us there to learn more about our last developments and features for ductile iron

improvements.
