TIMME grants, organizing symposia, and implementing needs-based professional development, faculty from the four departments are seeking ways to work together.

• Improving cross-college relationships - Identifying a liaison to work with faculty from the other colleges to improve communications regarding programs.

Library• For FLITE users, completed first computer and

application server replacement cycle since FLITE opened on March 12, 2001

• For FLITE employees, completed merger of Reference and Instruction and Circulation Services departments to form the Public Services department

Michigan College of Optometry• Received $1 million grant from the Dow

Foundation for new building

• Developed vision service to support and complement the University College Strategies Learning program

Pharmacy• The Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education

(ACPE) reaffirmed our 6-year full program approval with a follow-up Interim Report in January 2006

• Completion of the expanded enrollment (to 150 per class) necessitated the development of new practice sites at Spectrum (Blodgett); ProMed Healthcare; Covenant Healthcare and Cherry Street Health Services

Technology• College leadership – dean’s search; program and

department leadership; faculty active in curriculum efficiency, development, accreditation, and professional development; increasing student involvement and communications

• Strong industrial relationships – successful in building relationships with industry and donors; 2005 in-kind donations = $922,959; 2005 cash donations = $375,913; scholarships; employment/internship; advisory committees

University Center for Extended Learning• Expanded and enhanced the Ferris online presence

through coordination of more offerings, collaboration with Ferris Colleges and task forces, and implementation of communication improvements suggested by faculty and students to better position Ferris in this growing market segment

• Increased and strengthened its partnerships with community colleges, K-12 districts, employers, and associations, such as the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE).

• Developmental Programs – Developed and marketed the CareerQuest program throughout 2005-06

• Educational Counselors - Completed groundwork for improving academic advising at Ferris with recommendations to Vice President Harris on March 24, 2006

• Codifying Academic Service Learning - VISTA volunteer will be gathering and analyzing data to demonstrate the level of student engagement in academic service learning projects

• Expanding partnerships - The four departments have interns and students working in various public agencies, including school districts, and need to deepen the partnerships to continue to improve the programs

Library

• Evaluate and plan for FLITE space utilization to address the issues of: shelving that was expected to last until 2016 is now 90% full; and, repurposing space freed by FCTL and TAC departures to support FLITE service expansion

• Activate interdepartmental partnerships to promote the use of new books, including showcasing of new titles, adding cover art and book review to online catalog, and reinstating a monthly New Books list on the library website with links.

Michigan College of Optometry

• Finalize and grow the TLC Laser Vision Correction Center at MCO

• Establish an industry funded Applied Eye Research Unit

Pharmacy

• Curricular review/revision to address revised ACPE Accreditation standards

• Enhance partnerships/programs (AHEC Grant, Engaged Partners Program, Anticoagulation Grant) with MSU College of Human Medicine at MERC and KCMS sites, particularly in view of the impending MSU COM’s expansion to Grand Rapids.

• Develop a vision that establishes the college’s position as a national leader in applied technology and professional service; curriculum guidelines, facilities, resources and policies that support the vision; growth in enrollment and other creative opportunities

• Articulate the vision through external relationships and activities: project partnership with industry; applied research that enhances student learning; endowed scholarships; increased cash and in-kind donations

• Work toward increased student and staff satisfaction with off-campus programming through use of data, improved communications and systems, and collaboration with the colleges in the development of the off-campus product

• Continue to strengthen internal and external partnerships partnerships for the benefit of current and future learners, Ferris, and Michigan.
