Feminism Critique The documentary ‘Miss Representation’ covers issues surrounding the role of women and representation of women. The documentary highlights the idea of women only being a physical addition to society, with no intellectual or knowledgeable contribution and this is aided and backed by how the media portrays women. Throughout the documentary a variation of women speak from experience on how they have been attacked by the media on how they appear. Starting from a young age girls are bombarded by media through a variation of ways in terms of how they should look, these being unrealistic. Likewise, the documentary focuses on the pervasive gender discrimination towards women and the aims for women to be displayed as only their appearance. Women are constantly objectified by media, for example through magazines and the use of Photoshop airbrushing. Miss Representation offers a realistic view of feminism and shows an accurate depiction of how women are seen and treated throughout media but also in real life.
