The right finish for any taste

Have you chosen your type of roller shutter? Wilms gives you the opportunity to

choose a finish to suit your taste. Aluminium or PVC slats? Boxes and guide rails in powder

coating or wet paint? You match these exactly to the colour of your windows. You can even

choose a box finish in film to simulate a wood structure, for example. You can also opt for

manual or electric control of your roller shutters.

ROLLER SHUTTERS

Cut heat loss with built-on roller shuttersBuilt-on roller shutters are always installed at the same time as the windows and doors. This means they are ideal for newbuild homes and renovations where the windows will be completely replaced. Our boxes are compatible with wooden, PVC and aluminium windows and are pre-insulated to keep heat loss to a minimum.

Depending on the position, you can choose for the box only to be visible on the inside of your home. However, it is also possible for the front plate to be fitted in a visible location. It’s finished in film or an RAL colour of your choice so that the window and the roller shutter box merge into a coherent whole.

Benefits of Wilms built-on roller shutters

• The boxes are supplied as a complete unit ready for fitting, no joinery required.

• They can be perfectly concealed in the interior of your home.

• Depending on how they are fitted, only a small part of the box front plate will be visible on the exterior of your home. If there is no room for a built-on box in the interior wall, it can also be fitted in the window opening (‘in the reveal’), although the front plate is then visible.

• The guide rails have been designed to ensure it is still possible to install fly screens on the window, even when the roller shutter is closed.

When should you choose built-on roller shutters?

• If you are planning to build or to replace your windows in their entirety in the near future.

• If you want a box that is invisible from the outside but there is no space for an airtight built-in option.

Acoustic insulationAs soon as you consider ventilation, there is a risk of disturbance by noise from the outside environment. We can tackle this by providing acoustic insulation if required. The standard box has noise damping of 33dB, whereas the acoustic version goes up to 38dB. The addition of acoustic insulation does not affect the size of the box. After all, it is completely concealed in the box and from outside you wouldn’t know it was there. The guide rails are also the same with both boxes.

Surface-mounted roller shutters: the perfect product for renovationsOops! Overlooked roller shutters when designing your home? No problem! You can always turn to Wilms for surface-mounted roller shutters with no need for lots of recon-struction and demolition work.

There are two ways to fit surface-mounted roller shutters: either on the façade above the window (‘above the reveal’) or in the reveal against the window profile. N.B. If fitted in the reveal, some of the visibility out of the window will be sacrificed. Our boxes are available in six sizes. The size of box is determined using the height of the window to be covered. The choice of slat and the operating mode of the roller shutter are also crucial.

Moreover, you can choose between a chamfered box and a round box, whichever is better in keeping with the style of your home. It is also possible to choose round clip profiles on the guide rails with the round box in order to carry the box style over seam-lessly to the guide rails.

Benefits of a Wilms surface-mounted roller shutter

• Existing homes: overlooked roller shutters when designing your home? Surface-mount-ed roller shutters solve this problem because they are fitted in front of the window with little reconstruction and demolition work.

• Airtight: since surface-mounted roller shutters are fitted to the façade and require no perforation of the interior wall, they have no impact on the energy level of your home - providing the shutter operation is electric, of course.

When should you choose surface-mounted roller shutters?

Avoid a thermal bridgeInstalling built-in roller shutters creates a thermal bridge because you remove insula-tion in the place where the box will be. The development process of ShutterX® focused intensively on finding a solution to this problem. You can read about the new techniques on page 29.

S-scoreThe S-score expresses the energy efficiency of a housing unit in a single number. The less energy required to keep the temperature of the housing unit at a constant level, the lower this number. The Flemish government is using this to place extra focus on reducing energy demand. An independent consultancy found that our ShutterX® system can reduce a home’s S-score by no fewer than 3 S-points! Since the S-score represents a tightening up of the rules, you can benefit greatly.

Do you live in a region where the S-score is not used? The benefits of our airtight solution are clear for every region, of course, because your energy costs will drop.

Reduce energy demandSimulations show that fitting our ShutterX® system enables the lowest characteristic energy consumption* of any solution in the market to be achieved. The box is completely concealed behind the façade and even the end lath disappears into the box. When fully rolled up, therefore, ShutterX® is invisible from both inside and outside!

Composite profile replaces the insulation in the cavity wallInsulation is removed to make space for the box in the cavity. Installing a composite profile replaces this loss of insulation. Wilms is the only supplier in the market to use this method.

Airtight membraneWilms fits an airtight membrane as standard on the composite profile above and below the window. This membrane is simply finished against the outside of the interior wall.

No condensationThe usual plywood does not provide optimum insulation. The result is condensation and dark spots on the plaster. The insulating structural panels that Wilms offers with ShutterX® absorb the temperature differences and avoid the thermal bridge next to the window.

Streamlined guide railsThe guide rails for ShutterX® are concealed in the wall so they are invisible when you are standing right in front of the window. They can be painted in an RAL colour of your choice to blend in beautifully with the window. The click system makes fitting even easier and there are no screws to be seen either.

Stop creepy crawliesThere is a standard 15 mm gap between the roller shutter and the window to install a fly screen. A sliding fly screen door, a fly screen door or a pleated fly screen can also be fitted in front of the roller shutter.

No more cold window sillsHave you ever felt the window sills inside your home in winter? They are almost always cold. Wilms solves this by using a shielded composite profile on which the window sill can sit. The profile keeps the cold out and supports the window profile.

Moisture stays outsideThe window sill is susceptible to moisture because the window is secured to the interior wall. This runs the risk of water seeping in if there is anything wrong with the installation. Wilms provides a drainage profile with a drainage membrane and this profile ensures that moisture stays where it belongs: outside!

Good to knowYou can choose either blue stone or aluminium for the window sill. The latter can be ordered from Wilms. A sound-damping, anti-drumming membrane is fitted as standard under the aluminium window sill.

The perfect finishOur products are always made to your specification.

You can choose from various box types, colours, slats and controls to give you a product that perfectly meets your needs. You can also specify the position of the electrical connections. Your wish is our command!

Controls

ElectricAn electric control not only makes the shutter much easier to operate, it also makes your home look occupied when you are away for a longer period of time because the roller shutters can be programmed to open or close at different times. A solar sensor can also be connected. One obvious benefit of this is that the climate in your home can be controlled automatically. If there is a risk of your home heating up, the roller shutter closes even if there is nobody home.

You have a choice of the following options: Wired motors In the past, a wired motor was usually controlled by a switch on the wall. Nowadays they

are often connected to a home automation system or app. Ask our specialists for advice.

One-way communication The motor is operated using a remote control but can only receive signals.

The motor will not provide any feedback if the roller shutter is impeded anywhere.

Two-way communication The motor is operated using a remote control and can also give feed-

back. It lets you know that something is wrong if there is a problem. This message is displayed on the remote control used to operate the roller shutter.

ManualOf course you can also opt for manual control.

Choice of colours for the box and guide railsWilms has its own extrusion lines and paint shops. We have everything we need in-house for both powder coatings and wet paint. Our powder coating installation is fully automatic so we can supply all your specifications even faster than before. Moreover, the colour range within PVC and aluminium is matched so you will see the same result even though we are working with different materials.

Good to knowWilms also has its own wrapping line. A coloured film can be applied to PVC profiles that perfectly matches the window profile of your choice. Wilms has a range of over 55 colours. Would you like a grain structure in the guide rails? Or would you prefer a matt film? That’s no problem for Wilms!

The vacuum evaporator enables us to use nothing but rainwater so we have nothing to discharge. Moreover, the production hall is heated by recovering the sanitised hot air from the process and blowing it into the hall. No less than 90% of the powders are recovered. Finally, the strategic positioning of the hall on our sites has halved the packaging material.

Our employees too can do their bit to help the environment. Wilms has a recycling point where they can dispose of old batteries, mobile phones, tabs from tin cans and bottle caps. These are then donated to local organisations which can swap them for financial support.
