The 2009 Saxophone Day was well attended and provided students with invaluable experience in group playing and performance, instrument technique and equipment advice. This year we were supported by Band Supplies, Glasgow who set up the instrument room. Our thanks to Raymond and Ronnie for committing to this event on what was a very busy weekend for the music store.

ROB HALL I CHICK LYALL – New CD Release 2009

RHYME OR REASON

Rob has released a new CD with pianist Chick Lyall on the FMR label. This new recording was funded by the Scottish Arts Council and shows the duo in great form, continuing their musical journey between composition and improvisation, poetic lyricism combined with adventurous jazz soloing. New compositions include works from both musicians and two movements from Rob’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano alongside a suite of freely improvised pieces.

"Atmospheric and evocative ... both players are able to find their space in the music with impeccable taste and discrimination."

BIGGAR BIG BAND

Rob directed the Biggar Big Band in an ‘open’ rehearsal as part of the Biggar festival. They were working on Rob’s new suite for big band Borderland commissioned by the band and due for its premiere in the spring of 2010.

A band that looks a bit like the BBB!

GROUP COACHING

Do you have a music group that needs some direction? Why not break the mould and book an ‘away trip’ to re-energise the ensemble, refresh your ideas and enjoy the area? You can either use our premises to rehearse or you can organise some coaching from an experienced tutor. Choose from ½ Day, Full Day or 2-Day Weekend. Call us to discuss your group’s needs.
