Vistapre-T causes faster colonisation of fibrous material

KEY FEATURES

• Improves digestibility of a wide range of forages

• Increase DMD value and ME value of different forages

• Make the most of home grown forages

• Liquid application to speed activity

Vistapre-T is a unique liquid pre-treatment product that creates a window of opportunity to unlock the energy potential from fibre in forage. This allows producers to extract more value from their home-grown forages.

FEEDING RATES

Vistapre-T is a liquid product added to forage prior to feeding and water must be added. Quantity fed is dependent on DMI. Consult with your nutritionist for application rates to your forage.

FEED AND FORAGE PRE-TREATMENT

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Breaks down forage roughening up the surface of the fibre causing pits to form.

These pits enable the easy attachment and colonisation of anaerobic bacteria, reducing the lag time to digestion.

FEED GRADE UREA

FEED GRADE UREA provides a good source of effective rumen degradable protein (ERDP) to adult ruminants, but care should always be taken to ensure diets are correctly balanced. As feeding levels are very low due to its high nitrogen content, it is essential that urea is mixed thoroughly with other feeds prior to offering to animals.

KEY FEATURES

• Highly concentrated effective nitrogen source for adult ruminants

• Supplies rapidly available nitrogen

• Good balancer for low protein, high energy feeds

• Can be used to preserve moist forage or grain

• Alkaline pH results from hydrolysis with water

• The highest % of protein of any feed on the market, when used

MYCOTOXIN ABSORBENT

Mycotoxins are poisons produced from the secondary metabolic processes which occur naturally in a variety of moulds that grow on food crops. The amount and type of mycotoxin produced varies by the type of mould prevalent during different environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. Stress on crops from insects, weeds and weather also influence mould growth and mycotoxin production.

Mycotoxins can lower feed consumption and feed conversion, reduce disease resistance, increase reproductive problems, reduce performance, and restrict genetic expression of traits.

KEY FEATURES

When Mycotoxins are present in feed, treating with UltraSorb can result in:

• Increased intakes

• Increased milk production

• Increased growth rates

• Improved fertility

• Reduced litter and flock mortality

• Better herd, flock and litter health

• Clay mineral particles - bind the “polar” mycotoxins

• Yeast wall components - bind to toxins and pathogenic bacteria

• Yeast cell extracts - modifies toxin structures to render them non-toxic

• Microbial nutrient package - supports tissue and beneficial microflora recovery

Joe and Kevin Doran are a father and son partnership farming 200 acres in Donadea, Naas Co. Kildare. They are milking 130 high yielding purebred Holstein cows, averaging an impressive 9,500kgs per lactation. Two years ago, Kevin and Joe were concerned that they were not getting the most from their cows. Working with Specialist Nutrition, over time they have increased milk output by 17%, while reducing the cost of feed per head.

Animal Potential

UNLOCKING ANIMAL POTENTIALWorking with Specialist Nutrition the Doran’s identified that there were two main issues with milk yield underperformance; animal intake and achieving a year-round balanced diet. To address this Brewer’s Grains, a co-product from the brewing industry, was introduced on the farm. As a highly palatable feed, with good crude protein and energy density levels, Brewer’s Grains works perfectly in their winter diet as it increases animal intakes and provides the protein levels required to maximise their pedigree cows performance. For the remainder of the year the Doran’s use Brewer’s Grains in times of poor grass growth to ensure they are achieving a consistently balanced diet. Kevin added: ‘Brewer’s is a really good source of protein and we’ve seen our cows yield improve, while maintaining our protein and butterfat percentages throughout the year.’

UNLOCKING FARMER POTENTIALWhile increasing milk production, they’ve also reduced their feeding costs; resulting in a more profitable farm.

According to Kevin “Not only have we increased our yields in the last two years but we also have an excellent blueprint to move forward with into the future, which means we’ll continue to maximise the potential of our farm.”

UNLOCKING LAND POTENTIAL Throughout the weather difficulties in 2018, the Doran’s maintained Brewer’s Grains in their cow’s diet. This reduced their dependency on grass and as a result they weren’t forced to put cows out on wet grass or eat into valuable silage stocks.

Kevin added; “With Brewers Grains we haven’t been forced to poach our land in times of extreme wet weather, and during drought periods we haven’t been forced to overgraze the land.”

Dan and Bernie Crowley, farming in Dripsey, Co. Cork, have a high yielding pedigree herd; with a heavily stocked grazing platform of over 4 livestock units per hectare. Faced with the challenges of managing an indoor winter-feeding system and a need to supplement their grass-based system at key times during the remainder of the year, the Crowleys began to work with Specialist Nutrition in early 2014 by incorporating Eornagold into their diet. Since that time their milk yield has increased by +8%, while milk solids have grown by over 13%.

land Potential

UNLOCKING LAND POTENTIAL As with most farms, land is a limiting factor for the Crowleys and they face an ongoing challenge to unlock their farms full potential on a grazing platform of 120 acres, while maintaining a very high stocking rate. However, using Eornagold the Crowleys have been able to utilise their land better on the shoulders of the year; which has ensured their land isn’t overgrazed & yearly output from grass is maximised using a careful grassland management approach.

Dan explained: “To maintain grass regrowth and get the most out of our land it’s crucial for us that we keep our land in good condition. This is particularly important at the shoulders of the year, as we need a system in place that ensures we’re not forced to put animals out on wet land that could cause long-term damage. Eornagold allows us to carefully manage this.”

UNLOCKING FARMER POTENTIALSitting high above the banks of the River Lee, the Crowley’s farm is prone to drought from time to time; this poses a serious risk to their business and something they have been keen to manage. By incorporating Eornagold into their diet they have insulated their business from any potential impact a bad weather period or poor silage quality may have. This, coupled with reducing their overall feeding costs, gives the Crowley’s confidence in their long-term business viability. Dan explains “We run a busy farm unit, so I need to have a system in place that’s reliable and runs smoothly. Every business or farm carries risk and Eornagold is part of my insurance policy in managing the risks associated with maintaining a productive and profitable system. Since using Eornagold I’ve seen positive results in the milking parlour, with overall feeding costs reduced.”

CASE STUDY23

UNLOCKING ANIMAL POTENTIALRunning a busy farm of over 470 livestock units, including 200 dairy cows and 40 pedigree breeding bulls, means the Crowleys need a reliable source of feed that enables them to get the most out of their high potential animals. Working with Pat Coakley from Specialist Nutrition, they rebalanced the herds diet with an emphasis on increasing animal intakes to unlock their full potential.

Dan added: “Since I started dealing with Specialist Nutrition and including Eornagold into my herds diet, I’ve seen an increase in milk production, while at the same time my cows health has been maintained. There’s also been a great improvement in the condition of my pedigree bulls.

I couldn’t be happier with the impact it has had.”

Eornagold is a co-product from the distillery industry. It is highly palatable in nature, and is an excellent source of high quality protein, along with providing good energy density. By introducing this product, the Crowleys have been able to increase animal intakes, with the additional benefit of reduced sorting at the head-feed; resulting in increased milk output and quality.

Dan explained how they use Eornagold to ensure a year-round consistent diet: “Our winter diet is based around Eornagold and silage as the main protein source, so we pit in the summer to ensure a supply for this busy period. For the remainder of the year we hold a supply of Eornagold mixed with soya hulls; and use this as part of a buffer feed to maintain production levels and cow condition when required.”

Maintaining milk output throughout the winter and balancing his herds diet into the spring, while controlling his feed costs, were key challenges that dairy farmer James Nally wanted to overcome. Farming in Glasson outside Athlone, James has grown his British Friesian herd from 100 to 200 cows, along with farming 60 replacement heifers and 120 beef cattle, which he sells as weanlings. In 2013 James worked with Specialist Nutrition to incorporate Liquid Feeds into his herds diet in an effort to maximise intake and increase production throughout the winter period. “With the help of Specialist Nutrition, we worked to achieve a balanced diet throughout the year and we’ve been rewarded well in terms of production and general health of our animals.”

Animal Potential

UNLOCKING FARMER POTENTIALIn order to build a sustainable business and manage risks to his farm output and profitability, James knew he needed a reliable, alternative source of feed that complimented his grass-based system. By investing in a second-hand tank for liquid storage and using Liquid Feeds throughout the year, James has been able to achieve this.

Tank costs were quickly re-cooped through a 20% increase in milk output and a 5% reduction in winter feed costs.

UNLOCKING ANIMAL POTENTIAL Using only baled silage, which can be variable quality, James struggled to maintain a consistent diet and the impact on milk output was noticeable. To address this, and in an effort to maximise production, while controlling costs throughout the winter milking period, James introduced Eornasyrup into his herds diet.

Eornasyrup is a highly palatable feed, which is favourable when dealing with variable quality silage bales. This, along with the fact that it is high in protein, provides a very digestible feed which compliments James’s low protein grass silage. As a result, James has been able to maintain his milk quality, without having to supplement his feeding programme with expensive feeds. All while growing milk solids substantially from 5,000kgs to 6,000 kgs.

CASE STUDY 31

James added “Since introducing Eornasyrup I’ve seen a reduction in body condition fluctuations, along with an increase in milk production.”

As focus turns to grassland utilisation during the spring period, James replaced Eornasyrup in the diet with LiquiGold as a complimentary feed to high protein, low dry matter, spring grass. Nigel Condell, Nutritionist from Specialist Nutrition explained “LiquiGold is a highly palatable, energy dense feed, that is ideal as part of a buffer feed to compliment a grass-based system. By helping to ensure cows eat their energy requirements, it also plays an important role in reducing body condition loss after calving.”

Overall, since James started working with Specialist Nutrition he has “experienced huge improvements in milk production and cow fertility. I credit this to the balanced diet I’ve been able to achieve across all seasons, and Liquid Feeds in particular has allowed me to get the most out of the cows I have.”

Suitable for weaning between 3kg and 6½kg liveweight.

Primary Diets creep feeds have 70% of the UK market. They only use the highest quality raw ingredients in fixed formulation ration to provide quality and consistent diets for baby pigs.

This range has been developed entirely from the results of Primary Diets’ research. The Ultra range maintains the highest level of performance at the lowest cost per kilogram achievable and with the absolute minimum risk.

Suitable for weaning between 3kg and 6kg liveweight.

Specialist Nutrition offers a range of specialist piglet pre-starter feeds, starter feeds, premixes and concentrates for every phase in modern piglet rearing

ADDITIVES FOR GRASS SILAGEFORAGE SPECIFIC ADDITIVES FOR ALL FARMPRODUCED FEEDSBIOTAL

AXPHAST GOLD FOR WET GRASS

BIOTAL SUPERSILE FOR NORMAL CONDITIONS

DRY MATTER FROM 20-27%

BIOTAL AXCOOL GOLD FOR DRY GRASS

Why not upgrade? Biotal Axphast Gold is the highest spec wet grass treatment on the market. Improved animal performance and effluent reductions of up to 50% from the resultant silage is normal. Its use can also allow you the flexibility of cutting and ensiling grass at higher nitrate levels.

DRY MATTER FROM 15-20%

DRY MATTER FROM 27%+

Wet weather conditions and/or low sunlight hours at harvest leave the natural sugars in grass very diluted, <3% of fresh weight. This leads to a slow, inefficient and sometimes incomplete fermentation in the clamp or bale. Biotal Supersile Gold contains a patented enzyme package that will release sugar normally locked in the grass fibre. The lactic acid producing bacteria supplied then utilises this sugar to drop the pH of the clamp quickly, preserving valuable protein and nutrients in the silage as efficiently as possible as-well as total clamp/bale DM.

The sun is a very good additive and that’s why high DM grass (>30%) usually makes well preserved silage. Its higher DM and residual sugar level does however, make it vulnerable to the growth of yeast and mould at feed-out. These harmful spoilage organisms utilise sugar and fermentation acid to grow, producing heat at the clamp face through to the feed barrier. This results in silage waste and a reduction in feeding quality and forage DM intakes. Using Biotal Axcool gold ensures your silage remains cool and stable throughout its feeding period.

“Using Biotal inoculants allows us to maximise preservation while producing the best quality grass silage.”

Daniel and David Drum, Dairy and Beef Farmers, Delvin, Co. Westmeath.

ADDITIVES FOR WHOLE CROPFORAGE SPECIFIC ADDITIVES FOR ALL FARMPRODUCED FEEDS

ADDITIVES FOR CRIMPED CEREALS

BIOTAL WHOLECROP

BIOTAL BIOCRIMP

BIOTAL WHOLECROP GOLD MILL

Whole crop is harvested using a self-propelled silage harvester which has a head similar to a maize head, so that it can cut and take in cereal plants without grain loss. At the point of harvest an additive is applied to the material which helps ferment the wholecrop to a level where maximum quality is maintained in the clamp and also maintain the stability of the clamp face at feed out.

The additive most widely used throughout the country for wholecrop is called Wholecrop Gold for fermented wholecrop and Wholecrop Gold Mill for hi-dry matter wholecrop.

“Wholecrop Gold has improved preservation, reduced losses and increased the ME of my end product. I have been making wholecrop for 10 years and although I tried it once without an inoculant, I would never make wholecrop without Biotal Wholecrop Gold again.”

Brian Rohan, Dairy Farmer, Shanahoe, Co. Laois.

Normally grain is harvested when it can only be broken using your thumbnail and forefinger. If the grain can be squashed between the thumb and forefinger, the grain is still too wet. The cereal is cut with a combine harvester and then passed through a crimper roller which cracks the grain. At the crimping stage, an additive known as BioCrimp is applied using a liquid applicator to quickly preserve and maintain aerobic stability. It is then ensiled in a clamp, rolled and covered with a sheet of plastic to the point where the material is air tight.

“My best investment each year is Biotal SoloMaize. It keeps my maize silage cool, which really pays for itself in the summer time. I would not make maize silage without SoloMaize.”

James Tynan, Dairy Farmer, Ardboy, Co Kilkenny.

ADDITIVES FOR MAIZE SILAGEFORAGE SPECIFIC ADDITIVES FOR ALL FARMPRODUCED FEEDS

BIOTAL SOLOMAIZE BIOTAL MAIZECOOL

As a high dry matter high sugar and relatively low protein forage, harvested maize typically results in a quick and efficient fermentation in the clamp requiring no assistance in dropping its pH. The resulting silage is however extremely vulnerable to spoilage during feed-out.

Heating and moulding at the clamp face are the result of air being supplied to the naturally occurring ensiled yeasts. These aerobic organisms can make quick work of this starchy forage so a proven anti-microbial treatment such as Biotal SoloMaize should be applied at harvest.

Why not upgrade? Biotal MaizeCool gold has all the anti-microbial benefits of Biotal SoloMaize and more. Its specific enzyme package also improves the cell wall digestibility of the stover component.
