Highlights-1

• Hosted 29 High level visits by Heads of State, Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys to Nigeria from January to April 2012

• Nigeria dispatched Special Envoys on over 6 special missions abroad.

• Induction Course (March 2012) for 88 newly appointed Ambassadors and their spouses with a mandate to defend Nigeria’s global interests and pursue the quest for Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs).

• 6 new residences for Ambassadors/High Commissioners constructed in Bucharest, Guinea Bissau, Libreville, Mexico City, Bamako and Seoul.

• 12 new Chanceries acquired, constructed and under construction in Accra, Athens, Banjul, Bata, Beijing, Brazzaville, Bucharest, Damascus, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome & Principe, Ouagadougou and Bamako.

• 16 new official staff quarters acquired in foreign missions

• 2 International Schools constructed in Nigerian missions in Cotonou and Niamey

• Nigeria honoured with invitation to in New York in September 2011 to become a member of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies, an intergovernmental organisation with headquarters in Poland.

• Minister paid unannounced visits to 2 Foreign Embassies and found Nigerians queuing in the rain. Relevant Embassies directed to construct adequate reception area for Nigerians within 6 months, and they complied.

• Strong commitment to democracy and democratic values in African countries such as Mali, Guinea Conakry, Libya, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea etc.

• Participated in all meetings and programmes of ECOWAS, the 6th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, Luanda, Angola from 12-13 April 2012; and the 14th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission in N’Djamena, Chad, on 30th April 2012 as a show of good neighbourliness, collective regional security and economic well being.

Brazil

• Inaugural meeting held in Brazil, July, 2013 between the Minister and his Brazilian counterpart on the Establishment of the Mechanism for Strategic Dialogue between Brazil Nigeria.

• A Memorandum of Understanding between Nigeria and Brazil is in place for the waiver of visas for Nigerian diplomatic and official passports holders.

• The Vice-Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Brazil met in Brasilia, on 26 November, 2013, as co-chairs of the Inaugural Session of the Brazil-Nigeria Mechanism for Strategic Dialogue.

Venezuela

• Nigeria and Venezuela seeking better collaboration towards strengthening political and economic relations.

• 1st meeting which deliberated on the MOU for the Establishment of a Mechanism of Political Consultation signed between the two countries in July 1999 held during an official to Venezuela in 2012.

• Visit culminated in the signing of the outstanding Agreement between Nigeria and Venezuela on the waiver of visa requirements for holders of Diplomatic and official passports.

Cuba

• Nigerian students pursuing various medical courses in Cuba on Cuban Government Scholarship.

• On May 16, 2013, the Ambassador of Cuba in Nigeria met with the delegation of the Ahmadu Bello University who recently visited Cuba with the aim of expanding academic exchange relationships with the Agrarian University of La Havana, scientific research centres ascribed to it and LABIOFAM Business Group.

China

• Official State from the president, HMFA and the Cabinet Ministers to China July, 2013 that afforded Nigeria the opportunity to sign some Agreements and Memorandum of Understanding with China.

• By the end of 2012, trade volume was over US$ 7.8billion, making Nigeria, China's second largest trading partner in Africa.

• Chinese investments also amounted to US$ 8billion during the same period, cutting across Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Solid Minerals as well as manufacturing of the Agro-Allied products.

• Nigeria and China have signed agreements on Trade, Economic and Technical, Scientific, Technological co-operation and Investment Protection.

Indonesia

• State visit of the Indonesian President to

Nigeria in February, 2013.

• The Indonesian Mission in Nigeria is the only

diplomatic representation it has in the West

African sub-region.

Botswana

• President of Botswana paid official visit to

Nigeria on 16th to 17th August 2011.

• Nigerian President paid State Visit to

Botswana on 11th September 2012.

• The two Presidents held bilateral talks aimed

at broadening economic cooperation between

the two countries and a business forum was

organized

Malawi

• President of Malawi visited Nigeria twice on 30th April 2012 and on 24th to 27th July, 2012.

• Nigerian President paid a State Visit to Malawi on 10th September 2013 to explore areas of strengthening bilateral relations. The first State Visit by a Nigerian President to that country.

• During the Visit two agreements were signed: Economic and Technical Cooperation which established the Joint Commission between the two countries; Country Agreement on TAC.

South Africa

• Consultative Meeting between the Permanent
