10 YEAR CELEBRATION
I hope YOU can join us on Saturday,
February 10, when we celebrate our 10
Year Anniversary of being family owned
and operated here at Wellsville Retire-
ment Community. It will be 2:00 to
4:00 with some “special words and
acknowledgement” at 3:00. Food and
beverages will be provided along with
some very special music throughout the
afternoon. See you then!!!
TWO ANNOUNCEMENTS
I am pleased to announce that Jill
McCoy is now serving as our licensed
Administrator at WRC. With the excep-
tion of a few months back in 2008, I
have been the official administrator of
record. Jill is now going to take on that
responsibility. So am I leaving or going
somewhere? The answer to that is a re-
sounding NO! I will continue serving
our residents at WRC on a daily basis.
The only change is that I plan to do a
little more traveling with my wife and
family in the future. Between Brookside
and Wellsville, we actually now have 5
licensed administrators. In the near fu-
ture, this number will increase to 6
when our Dietary Manager, Tim Sulli-
van, obtains his license. Also, the ar-
rangement we have here at WRC will
now be a mirror image of the arrange-
ment we have had in place at Brookside
for many years. Tracy Dunnaway serves

as our licensed administrator at
Brookside AND my wife, Susan, is there
to assist almost every day in serving our
residents. Please feel free to give me a
call or stop by for a conversation if you
have any questions or concerns about
this.
The other announcement I have to
make……………..since I just wrote about
traveling more……………..is that I am
going to take another “little” bike ride at
the end of February. Many of you re-
member that a couple years ago I biked
across the United States with a high
school buddy – David Saving. He and I
along with another high school friend –
Greg Loveless - are going to take anoth-
er trip. We are going to take the south-
ern route across the states – from San
Diego to the Florida Keys. However,
this time we are going to do it in 2 seg-
ments. The first segment will be San
Diego to Houston, Texas……this should
take about 30 days. Then we will take a
break – not sure how long yet – and
then we will resume the journey with
our destination being the southern tip
of Florida. We again will be raising
money and awareness for an organiza-
tion called Lead a Child which supports
children in third world countries in get-
ting a Christian based education.
As always, if you have any concerns
whatsoever, please don’t hesitate to stop
by or give me or Jill a call anytime.
‘til next month,
Scott

Emma “Ellen” Miller resides in our Meadow-
lark Neighborhood, and was born in Wyonna,
MO. She moved with her family a few times
during her early childhood years before they
settled in Lawrence, KS. She has two sisters
and three brothers. Her Dad was a carpenter
when she was young and they lived in town.
Ellen always liked to play outside as a kid with
her siblings and all the neighborhood kids.
Ellen married early and she and her husband
have two sons, and three grandchildren. Ellen
would go along with her husband on hunting
and fishing trips but her hobby was bowling.
Ellen was a Bowling Instructor at Hillcrest
Lanes in Lawrence for many years. She taught
her boys and all of her grandchildren to bowl
when they were young, and is very proud of her
high score of a 293 for one game.
She really likes Demolition Derby
races and it is definitely a family
affair. Her grandchildren race the
cars and her son builds them. She
has probably been to every county
fair in Kansas.
Ellen says, “WRC is a pretty nice
and good place to live. She really
likes all the people who work here”.
Jamie is one of our CNA/CMA’s and has been
working at WRC for over three years. Jamie
grew up in Olathe and followed in her family’s
footsteps by graduating from Olathe North
High School.
Jamie has an older brother and sister. For a
few years, she helped her Dad in the construc-
tion business framing houses before becoming
a para at the elementary school. Being a li-
censed pyrotechnician, Jamie loves the 4th of
July and can put on a very good show for the
holiday.
Jamie and her husband live in the country and
have two sons, two daughters, and three grand-
children. Her son is a U.S. Marine and lives in
North Carolina and a daughter plays softball
for Independence Community College.
Her hobbies are all sports, garden-
ing, and crafts. Jamie loves to “can”
her harvest from the garden each
summer and share with others.
“The loving atmosphere and all the
residents are what makes working at
WRC a great place”, says our CNA/
CMA Jamie.
