Santa Lucia Branch #89 February 2012 Big SIR Report: By Bob Pendergrass The SIR's is a very special organization for retired men. Its goals and aims are to promote good fellowship and foster new friendships. The State SIR organization and our Branch Executive Committee (BEC) are constantly focusing on ways to attract and especially retain new members. Attracting new members can only be done by inviting our retired friends to attend our luncheons and find out what we are all about. Once new members are brought in, it is up to all of us to get to know the new members and make them feel welcome.. The BEC wants 2012 to be a year where we also do more at our luncheons to foster fellowship which helps retain members. Some suggestions (notice suggestions and not rules) are more circulating and greeting before lunch begins, sit with some one you would like to know better or do not know at all, or participate in the vibrant outside activities of bowling and golf. VIC LANINI, has volunteered to be the go between for members who are interested in the States Travel Program, which is another avenue to foster fellowship. We have a very active Branch who averaged over 70% attendance in 2011. This is a real feather in our cap. Let's keep this up and improve in 2012. Thanks for your participation in this fine organization, SIR. Remember your Valentine on the 14th. See you on the 8th. Today's Humor......... Anthropomorphic Nouns

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals. We are all familiar with a Herd of cows. A Flock of chickens. A School of fish. A Gaggle of geese. However, less widely known is: a Pride of lions. A Murder of crows. An Exaltation of doves presumably because they look so wise. A Parliament of owls. Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? Believe it or not…. A Congress! A CONGRESS OF BABOONS! I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington! You just can't make this stuff up.
