The most popular club for stu-dents for the past several

years has been ski club; in fact, some students have to be put on a waiting list just to join. Because there is a set number of students who can participate, students must sign up online in or-der to join. They also go through a sign up process with Perfect North Slopes. 110 students take part in each ski trip. Since so many students are a part of the group, two large and two small buses are needed to drive to Perfect North Slopes. Besides the students, their equip-ment, school bags, clothes and

“Students that are not part of the ski club but would like to go skiing on one of our trips can con-tact me to see if space is available on our buses,” said Mrs. Shellie Hartford, assistant principal for student activities. When students who are signed up cancel, more room is available for those students on the waiting list.

throughout the ski season. Rebels pay for a pass that allows them to ski four times. If a student at-tends two skiing or snowboarding lessons, they are able to receive a

Students participating in ski club have varying degrees of ex-perience on the slopes, including beginners and experienced skiers as well as snowboarders. Some of the experienced members bring their own equipment with them on each trip. If a student does not have any equipment, they sign up with the package that included ski/snowboard rental. Some Rebels join because they enjoy skiing and snowboarding or they want to make new friends. Others join for their own reasons. “It sounded like a good way to get out during winter and meet new people,” said junior Tyler Sipes. Others create memories of fun high school trips. “My favorite memory was get-ting air while snowboarding in the terrain park,” said junior Joe Perr.

Ski club gains popularityThe rapidly growing ski club continues to attract members who create memories that will last a lifetime

College decisions up in the airStudents consider the choice of remaining undecided

The college admissions season is well on its way and current seniors are faced with the decision of where they will be spending the next

four years of their lives.

of all students, as their end goal is earning a degree. However, enter-ing college as an “undecided” and choosing not to declare a major at

College counselor Mrs. Mary Hall mentions one of the most impor-tant advantages of being undecided. “It allows you to explore several different curricular areas,” said Hall. “Some universities have career assessments and bring in guest speakers to assist students in moving into a direction of interest.” Choosing not to declare a major is not the only decision that affects graduating; transferring colleges at the end of a semester or two also

know that it is certainly not going to ruin a college career.

“Before you switch, make sure all of your classes transfer and meet with your academic advisor to make sure you!re not losing credits or time. Do research on why you did or did not like the program that the college had to offer, so you!re not just transferring to transfer,” said Hall. It is important to be sure that the second school you are moving to has a stronger program - that it is something you need or want in order to earn the degree of your choice. But the preparation towards graduating from college does not just begin in college. It!s not to late to prepare yourself in high school. Ac-cording to Mrs. Hall, doing homework, talking to teachers and profes-sors, seeking help when it is needed and getting involved all have an impact on a college experience. These are things to do in both high school and college in order to excel in your work. Overall, the most important thing that can prohibit a student from reaching his or her goal is poor time management. What!s the key? Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize.

Selecting music everyone likes during passing periods might be impossible, but each year four

students, typically seniors, are chosen through a se-ries of referrals by their moderator, Mr. Ryan Costello to perform the important, yet thankless task. TRF has been a part of Roncalli since 2005. It started during winter spirit week and the student council asked if music could be played during the passing periods leading up to the pep rally at the end of spirit week, and Mr. Weisenbach approved the idea. “The response was so positive, that we then asked if we could play music each Friday. We were allowed to try it out for the entire fourth quarter of that year to see if it would be too much of a distraction,” said English teacher, Mr. Ryan Costello. Students have the opportunity to request songs to be played in the hallways through passing periods on Fridays. Songs can be suggested by students who

From preschool to college graduation, teachers are the extra set of adults in our life. Roncalli High School is

extremely blessed to be full of many talented teachers whose love of their profession shines through in the work that they do. “[Mrs. Striby] taught me not to be afraid of what kinds of books I read,” said sophomore Bobby McKay.

success. A phone call made to the parents of a student for a job well done from Mrs. Miles is like winning the lottery. “Having Mrs. Miles helped improve my writing skills,”said junior Ben McSwain The teachers at RHS expect students to succeed and hold themselves accountable for their own learning. An open door policy before and after school allows many students to receive that extra help and support. Some

Some teachers are extremely creative, motivating their students to learn by assigning fun but educational

a highly contagious aid and will challenge students to always strive to better themselves. “[Mrs. Helbing] connects with her class and keeps it interesting” said junior Warren Schalk Just as Mrs. Helbing has a way with relating to her students, so does Mr. Jim Ratliff. He is referred to by his students as the captain of the ship. Senior Justin Smith has decided to continue learning about architecture because of Mr. Ratliff. “Whether he is driving his yellow corvette or leading the division, he is by far the best teacher ever to walk the halls of Roncalli. We have never lost a man or woman overboard...yet,” said Smith. Just as the students vary in personality, each teacher has their own style and characteristics that allow different students to connect with different teachers. Whether their approach is casual and relaxed or strict and structured each one has most likely touched the life of a student.

Dear Lord, We are gathered here tonight in your name to honor those athletes who have not only taken the !eld for Roncalli, but who have taken to the battle !eld for You.It is not always on the sports !eld that we do our battle, but on the !eld of everyday life. We do not battle for the goals nor the touchdowns, or the blue rings, but for the cross that we will carry to You. Allow not our memories to be !lled by the highlight tapes or the dazzling plays, but instead by the prayers that began our games and the huddles we made to praise you after our victories and even our defeats. Let us not only think it was the weight of the iron in the weight room or the long hours of practice that made us victorious, but the weight of the cross and the hours on our knees that made us great. As for the seniors who have taken o" their Roncalli jersey for the last time, help us re-member that the competition has just begun. For the real battle is not with the pigskin or the round ball, but with the crosses that you have laid upon us.Allow us to be coached by Your love, and let all of us give You, our true Coach 110%. That is where we will !nd the true meaning of a champion. In the name of your son, Christ Jesus, we ask this blessing. Amen

"When the Word of God is duly accepted and properly observed, it as-sures unity in families as well as stability in so-ciety. It also assures an indestructible joy that will last beyond time and be transformed for all eternity into a life that su!ers no decline."

Moore delivered the following prayer at Roncalli’s all-sports ban-quet in the spring of 2000.

Left: Junior Jordan Donica and senior Rachel Janitz dance to the choir’s opener. They were not alone as four performers sang together on the stage.

Right: The guys of the show follow up the girls with their

own song. Mops became a fun prop during the routine.

Above: The Rebel Rapsody "nishes their "nal song with a well practiced pose. They smile for the camera as the audience applauds them for their performance.
