Island Carnival Queen Election Tonight Tonight the most beautiful girls in Aruba will vie for the cherished
crown of Carnival Queen. Elected by their own clubs and organiza- tions, the aspiring young ladies will appear at 8 p.m. in Wilhelmina Stadium to compete for the title. To the victor will go not only the title of Carnival Queen, but the privileged spot in the lead car of the! Grand Carnival Parade tomorrow.
The parade will take place in Oranjestad and will make up on Lloyd G. Smith Boulevard. Its start- ing time has been announced as 3
p.m. The parade will wind its way
through Oranjestad and end up at Wilhelmina Stadium.
Actually, this is the big carnival weekend. Yet, the spirit of carnival swept the island last weekend when the first ceremonies involving the Prince of Carnival were held. The island's many clubs and _ organiza- tions elected their own princes to compete against each other for the coveted title. Paules Diaz of Sava- neta, the choice of the Comman-;
deursbaai Club, was elected to reign
as prince. Called Prins Poepie I, he was formally received by Lt. Gov.
L. C. Kwartsz Feb. 5. A parade with | the prince as center of attraction
followed his meeting with Dr. Kwartsz.
At 4:30 this afternoon, Prins Poe-
pie I will lead a carnival parade for
children at the Lago Sport Park. Following his appearance at the
Sport Park, the prince of carnival

Still Missing
Luis E. Marchena, a boatswain
on the tug "Colorado Point,” is
still missing after the fishing
boat he was in capsized off Co-
lorado Point Jan. 28. With over
18 years’ service, he was the
only Lago employee of four men
aboard the ship. Two swam sa-
fely to shore; the third drowned
and his body was found on the
north shore near the pitch piles.

Aruba Okays Plan for More Power, Water
The Aruba Island Council has ap-
proved a proposed expansion of the
island's sea-water distillation and
electricity generation facilities. Cost
of the project is estimated at Fls.
29,000,000.
The plans call for raising the is-
land's fresh-water production from
2300 to 13,000 tons per day by in- stalling four new distillation units
and increasing the capacity of exist-
ing cquipment.
The new equipment will provide additional electricity generating fa- cilities.
Deputy O. S. Henriquez, speaking
for the government on the project,
said increased water and power fa- cilities were necessary to supply fu- ture industrial and agricultural
needs and to reduce the cost of these utilities to house hold consumers.
The government proposes to fi- nance the project through a bond issue. The Lago Thrift Foundation announced it would invest in bonds if the issuance terms met the foundation's specifications.
Lago announced it would with- hoid a decision on its proposed pur- chase of fresh water pending availability of the water.
Current plans call for installation of the new equipment west of the existing water plant at Balashi.
