The Model of Professional Ministry in America

1. Get more people2. More people = more money3. More money = more toys4. More toys = more ways to get more people5. Get more people (rinse and repeat)

The Typical Model of “Church Planting” in America

1. Get seminary degree2. No mega church will hire me3. Start bible study in my house4. Gather up the malcontents from other

churches5. Get enough people to rent a building and pay

my salary6. Build my own mega-church

An Alternative

1. Raise up church planters (“apostle” = sent ones)– Like Timothy, Silas, Epaphroditus, Apollos,

Barnabus, etc. 2. Send them somewhere– Convert growth, not transfer– Build the Kingdom, not an empire (e.g., no big box

and cushy salary)
