On July 1, 2015, the Archbishop of Chicago, Blase Cupich, assigned me as the temporary Administrator of St. Joseph Parish. This assignment was a big surprise to many of us because of the implications of the job. We knew that St. Joseph was going through many challenges and transitions that needed a strong leadership and a clear vision. I have to admit that I was intimidated by the size of the parish, the amount of responsibilities, and the disapproval that a good number of parishioners expressed, on top of my slim experience as a priest. Nevertheless, I accepted the challenge and drew confidence from what I call the desire to live the faith that I witnessed in most parishioners. I believed I had a good reflection of what the parish was about, and I wanted to do just thatinspire the parish of St. Joseph to continue to live the faith.

Last week, the Priest Placement Board informed me that the Archbishop of Chicago wants me to take a different assignment elsewhere. Therefore, a new pastor will be assigned to St. Joseph on July 1, 2016. I was asked to help the parish welcome our future pastor.

This is a new challenge and difficult endeavor, especially because it means I have to say good-bye to the parish that saw my birth as a priest and that gave me so many blessings throughout my three years at St. Joseph. It has been a time of much growth, learning and transformation. And for all of that, no words could express my gratitude.

In the next five months, I would like to continue what we started. A big project in our parish is the Turnaround Program, which is an effort from the archdiocese to strengthen our parishs balance between mission and finances. That basically means that we want to secure that the parish, in all its departments (school, religious education and ministries), will have the financial strength to be self-sustainable for years to come. Another big project is the establishing of strong councils and committees that will help the pastor set up the overall direction of the parish.

I thank the archbishop for his trust and all of you who are the family of St. Joseph for your testimony of faith. I ask that together we pray for our future pastor.

El primero de Julio de 2015, el arzobispo de Chicago, Blase Cupich, me asigno como el Administrador temporal de la parroquia de San Jos. Este nombramiento fue una gran sorpresa para muchos de nosotros porque las implicaciones de trabajo eran muchas. Sabamos que San Jos estaba pasando por muchos retos y transiciones que necesitaban un liderazgo fuerte y una visin clara. Tengo que admitir que me intimide por el tamao de la parroquia, el numero de responsabilidades, y el desapruebo que muchos parroquianos expresaron, en adicin a mi poca experiencia como sacerdote. Sin embargo, acepte el reto y tome confianza de lo que llano el deseo de vivir la fe que vi en la mayora de los parroquianos. Cre que tenia una buena reflexin de lo que era la parroquia, y quera hacer esoinspirar a la parroquia a continuar viviendo su fe.

La semana pasada, el consejo de colocacin de sacerdotes me informo que el Arzobispo de Chicago me ha pedido que tome una nueva responsabilidad en otro lugar. Por lo tanto, un nuevo prroco ser asignado a la parroquia de San Jos el 1 de julio de 2016. Se me ha pedido tambin que ayude a la parroquia a dar la bienvenida a nuestro futuro prroco.

Este es un nuevo reto y una tarea difcil, especialmente porque significa que tengo que decir adis a la parroquia que me vio nacer como sacerdote y que me ha dado tantas bendiciones en mis tres aos aqu. Ha sido un tiempo de mucho crecimiento, aprendizaje y transformacin. Y por todo eso, no hay palabras para expresar mi gratitud.

En los siguientes cinco meses, me gustara continuar lo que empezamos. Un proyecto grande es el programa Turn Around, el cual es un esfuerzo de la arquidicesis para ayudarnos a fortalecer el balance entre misin y finanzas. Eso bsicamente significa que queremos asegurar que la parroquia, en todos sus departamentos (Escuela, educacin religiosa y ministerios), tenga la estabilidad financiera para ser autosuficiente para el futuro. Otro gran proyecto es el establecimiento de concilios y comits fuertes que le ayuden al prroco a establecer la direccin en que avanza la parroquia.

Le agradezco al arzobispo por su confianza y a todos ustedes quienes son la familia de San Jos por su testimonio de fe. Les pido que juntos hagamos oracin

por nuestro futuro prroco.

2016 Carmel Street Scenes Toasts Mardi Gras!

The 42nd Annual Carmel Catholic High School

fundraiser Street Scenes will take place February 12 and 13, 2016. This years theme is Carmel Street Scenes Toasts Mardi Gras, and the event features more than 50 local bands, comedy showrooms, the FAMOUS cabaret style Student Show, an action-packed Las Vegas style casino and fabulous food and drink. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and you must be 21 to enter. Proceeds support Carmel Catholics educational programs and mission.

Lake, Cook, and McHenry County 7th and 8th graders, along with Carmel Catholic High School students, are invited to Street Scenes Student Night on Thursday, February 11, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $5 in advance, $6 at the door. Students will be able to enjoy several shows including the Student Show along with food and games at reduced prices.

Senior citizens are invited FREE OF CHARGE to the Senior Citizens exclusive performance of the famous and popular Student Show on Sunday, February 7, at 2 p.m. The show is held in Carmels auditorium and will last approximately one hour.

Knights of Columbus Annual Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, February 18th in the community room. It is open to all boys and girls who have not passed the 8th grade before the council contest and will not pass their 16th birthday before the state final in April 2016. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the contest will commence at 7:00 p.m. The top three winners will progress to the Regional contest in March. Regional winners will participate in the state finals in April.
