Te late great Ronald Reagan was ond o saying, Teproblem with our liberal riends is not that they are ignorant; itsthat they know so much that isnt so. Knowledge is usually defined as justified true belie. Tat isomething is not true you cannot call it knowledge is sel-evident,but it is also just as important not to hold belies or which youhave no evidence. I you cant justiy it with acts, then yourepretty much arguing with all the orce o the world is flat becauseeverybody knows so. For example, I personally have no knowledge o the peoplecalling or reugees to be blocked rom our state. As such, I have notengaged in personal attacks, character assassination, commentaryon their patriotism, or suggestions involving U-hauls. In theabsence o evidence, I will not make those judgments. I saidthe anti-reugee position was hand-wringing garbage. I neversaid anything about those who hold that position, because I do

not know all the people who hold that position. I theyre likethe majority o people I have met since moving here, they are theriendly, hardworking, tax-paying, easy-going, salt o the earth. But by the same token, I would bet my last dollar that notone o those who hold that position knows all two million Syrianreugees. For that matter, I would bet most o my dollars that theydont know all 100 reugees being brought to Montana. When itcomes down to it, Id eel airly confident betting that the majorityo them do not know any Syrian reugees. In America, reugee is a legal status granted afer a veryspecific process is completed. A potential reugee must eitherbe a close relative o a US resident or be reerred by the UN or

an NGO (usually a religious organization). Tey are sent to aUS Resettlement Support Center where they start the process, which involves fingerprinting and other biometrics and multiplebackground checks by the FBI, State Department, DHS, CIA,DOD, DEA, Interpol, and about every other set o initials youcould possibly want. While the vetting process is completed, reugees attend American culture orientation classes, interviews, multiple medical checks, and other hoops all beore beingallowed on US soil. Once here, their care is handed over to non-governmental organizations such as Sof Landing, who arrangehousing, employment, and urther American cultural orientationand language classes.

Letter to the BuzzDecisions need evidence

I the people Sof Landing wish to bring into Missoula havenot completed those steps, then they are not reugees, they areat best asylees (persons who seek permanent residence aferarrival on US soil) and at worst, illegal immigrants. I this iindeed the case, the people protesting reugees need to changetheir signs and petitions accordingly so as not to paint all o thelaw-abiding reugees with the same brush. Im sure the people who are protesting reugees are honestpersons o good aith. I have not attributed to them personallydishonesty, cowardice, lack o patriotism, or even cravenindifference, nor do I intend to. I am simply pointing out theirlack o evidence to this point. I will not even deny they may havesuch evidence, only that they have not presented it yet. I wilreadily admit my allibility. For instance, I quoted over seventythousand reugees admitted since 9/11. I missed a zero when read that report: its actually over seven hundred thousand. I anyone would like to provide statistically significantevidence o a trend toward criminal or terrorist behavior amongthe reugees allowed into this country and demonstrate the legaauthority and physical capacity o the state o Montana to restric

interstate movement and show that politicians are competento implement such a program, Im more than willing to listenI would point out that youre going to need 14.000 individuallydocumented cases to reach the 2% minimum typically held orstatistical significance. On urther thought, I would also point outhat politicians are competent is an even tougher sell. Still, I wont rule it out. Bring your evidence. Ill bring mineWe can debate acts and figures and i the evidence is persuasiveenough, I might even put my name on the dotted line. Ill evenbuy the ood. But i this is just going to devolve into a bunch o publicname-calling, count me out.

I see Mr. Pedde wrote somewhat o a CYA letter

He waxes all wonderul on immigrants, quoting

numerous statistics, studies, institutes ad ininitum.

I went through the immigrant thing beore, so

Ill let that lie, but he gets into equating reugees

with immigrants who want to come here and be

Americans, and be part o our society, and its just

not the case. ake a look at Europe, or better yet, take

a look at Minnesota. hey dont want to assimilate

they want to impose their ways on us.... ...NO, Im no

    having it.

You want to be an American? GREA. I love my

Country, I served it Proudly. But i you come hereand want to have things the way they were over in

    Sand City, think again.

I the Government has so much money to spend

that it thinks it can help out these poor reugees...... ..

spend it on our Veterans, our elderly who cant aord

their medication, and the list could go on. Its an old

saying, I didnt just make it up....... Charity begins at

    Home.
