February 28, 2011 Beth Malloy, Deputy Mayor Beth Malloy, Deputy Mayor of Fort Wayne, spoke to Rotary about implementing private sector practices in local government. Beth previously served in Mayor Richard Dailey’s administration in Chicago. She was a success in her first of three years there because in the first year she was “the most hated person in City Hall.” She did the work she was hired to do and change was not always well accepted by city employees. Beth stated that local government needs to use business practices including hiring people who understand processes and outsourcing areas perhaps in mission and strategy. The process of recruitment for departments can be done by one group instead of by several departments doing their own recruitment. Fort Wayne needs to go forward in Information and strategic plans. The current city budget does not include opportunities for budget training and meetings with mayors. The city needs to have the ability to view good models in order make improvements in the city of Fort Wayne. For more information on the City of Fort Wayne, check www.cityoffortwayne.org

On Saturday evening, Feb 19, members of the Anthony Wayne Rotary Club gathered at Sycamore Hills Country Club to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary. As part of the celebration, Dee Hoffman, president of the Fort Wayne Rotary club, presented a new club bell to Aron Dellinger, president of the Anthony Wayne Rotary club. Fifty years ago, the Fort Wayne Rotary club was the sponsoring club that formed the Rotary Club of New Haven that later became the Anthony Wayne Rotary Club. Also attending the event from the downtown club were Lisa Waterman, Assistant District Governor, and Dick Conklin, whose wife, Debbie, is a member of the Anthony Wayne Club.

Rotary’s Past Presidents were honored. and everyone enjoyed cake!

The next two pages are copies of the inside cover of the book the past presidents signed for Washington school.

Good Evening

I'm writing from ABC's Emmy-winning "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", which rallies communities to volunteer time, labor and materials to rebuild houses for those among them in need.

We are currently casting season nine of the show and I would love to extend toyour organization the opportunity to apply or nominate someone you know that is in need.

I know that your organization is plugged into your community and because of that you might be able to help us reach those local heroes who need our help (or others in the community who can bring those families to our attention.)

Attached, is a press release, which details what we are looking for and how people can submit their materials to us. Please forward the information to anyone you believe may help. Any assistance you can offer in getting the word out would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Feel free to contact my casting producer,Kristina Gorolevich, with any questions and concerns. Her contact information is below.

Best Wishes, Please contact: Kristina Gorolevich, Casting Producer, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition; O: 818.824.9626, E: [email protected]

ABC’s EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION

SEARCHING FOR DESERVING FAMILIES

Do you know someone whose home deserves an Extreme Makeover? If so, the producers of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition want to hear from you! Ty Pennington and his crew have been all across the map and they are ready to drive that famous bus into your neighborhood. What does it take to be picked for an Extreme Makeover? We are in search of deserving families and deserving people - people who have amazing strength of character and who put their own needs aside to help others. Whether it’s a mom, a soldier, a teacher, or a fireman, we think deserving families are families who inspire those around them. In addition, the producers are looking for families whose houses need major alterations or repair- homes that present serious problems for the family and affect the family's quality of life. To be eligible: A family must own their own single family home and be able to show producers how a makeover will make a huge difference in their lives. Interested families or those who wish to nominate another family should: e-mail a short description of their family story to – [email protected] Nominations/submissions must include: 1. The names and ages of each member of the household 2. A description of the major challenges within the home. 3. Explanation of why this family is deserving, or a positive role model in their community. 4. Photos of the family and a photo of the home 5. Don’t forget to include a contact phone number. Don’t Delay! Please send story submissions as soon as possible! For more information on how to apply please visit our website at: http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome/index?pn=apply
