KofC BABY BOTTLE EVENT The Baby Bottle Campaign is closing. If you haven’t done so already, please return baby bottles empty or full to the bassinet in the back of the church.

I would like to take a moment to share a short reflection on the upcoming liturgical season. As many of you know we stand at the threshold of another Lenten season. We will journey 40 days to the foot of the cross, through fasting and prayer, with Our Lord and Savior. This journey begins the first of March with Ash Wednesday. On this day we will hear one of two things as we receive the ashes; that of what is left behind of the blessed palms from the previous year. The two phrases we hear when receiving the ashes: Repent and believe in the Gospel and Remember, you are dust, and to dust you will return, present us the challenge. The challenge of reorienting ourselves back to God while remembering that He is the one who gives us life. While this time is a penitential time, where we recognize our sins, we should not dwell too much on our sinfulness. In dwelling on our sinfulness too much we become unable to make movement back toward the God who loves us. It is a time for us to be humbled by the awesome majesty of His forgiveness and in light of this, turn our whole selves back to Him who created us.

Deacon Luke Womack

DON’T BE ANXIOUS People have, it seems, a natural penchant for misplaced emphasis on unimportant things. They can easily get caught up with what they're having for dinner or what they will wear. Often it is a tragedy that helps people to refocus on what is really important. What I shall wear is an irrelevant question when I am facing surgery or chemotherapy. What's for dinner is immaterial to those living through grief or unemployment. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us not to worry. He doesn't say, "Don't eat. Don't cook. Don't buy clothes." He says, "Don't worry." Jesus asks us not to relinquish our responsibilities but to let go of our anxiety. Anxiety betrays a lack of trust and Jesus reminds us that "Your heavenly Father knows" all that you need (Matthew 6:32). Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION You need more than water for a bath. Most family bathrooms contain an arsenal of soaps and emollients, lotions, shampoos, and conditioners to combat grime and honor the body. A bath without oil is still unthinkable. No wonder early Christians used lavish amounts of oil to "paint" the skin of people drawn dripping wet from the baptismal font on Easter. There were two oils used in baptism long ago. "Oil of exorcism" protected candidates from "evil spirits"; it strengthened their resolve and purified their purposes. The second oil, slathered over them after baptism's bath, "sealed" them, making them like Christ, the anointed one, the priest, the prophet, the king. Chrism has always had a powerful odor; rich resinous perfumes are stirred in before it is consecrated. As the newly baptized were embraced by new brothers and sisters in Christ, the scent permeated the hall of Eucharist, a sign of our connection to Christ and to one another.--Rev. James Field Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

ENTHRONEMEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART

"I will shed abundant blessings upon all their undertakings." St. Margaret Mary wrote " How I would like to tell all I know of this loving devotion and manifest to the whole world the treasures of grace which are hidden in His adorable Heart and which He wants to shower in profusion upon all who practice this devotion." Jesus exposed His Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary and gave her these promises. By enthroning your home and family you partake in honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus and receive these blessings.
