Pines & Needles is a weekly career newsletter specifically for FNR students that includes upcoming events and resources. The FNR Career Fair is THIS FRIDAY! Several employers will be conducting interviews the day of the fair. Make sure you attend the “Acing the Interview” workshop on Wednesday to be interview ready. SCEE will also be hosting a Career Fair Social on Thursday, February 27. Be sure to check out the FNR Job Board (updated weekly) for a full list of opportunities you may qualify for.

60+ employers are expected to attend the FNR Career Fair on Friday, February 28! This is a great opportunity for you to network and make contacts with employers and organizations in the natural resources field, ask employers questions about necessary skills and general career advice, and search for internships or a post-graduation job. Undergraduate FNR students who attend will be eligible to receive a $500 scholarship to use for any FNR transformational experience or approved conference! More information is available on the attached Pines & Needles PDF. Join SCEE Thursday, February 27 for a Career Fair Social to help improve your skills when it comes to talking to employers. The social includes networking with employers, and a Q&A will be held during the last hour where students can ask more questions about qualifications, good interview skills, and qualities that you look for in a candidate. The social will take place from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 pm in Leopold’s Landing (PFEN 2nd floor).

MASI Undergrad Research Program The Molecular Agriculture Summer Institute is a paid summer research opportunity where students will be paired with a faculty member to conduct hands-on molecular research. Spring Health Programs Expo March 2 Don't miss your chance to talk to university healthcare program representatives at Pre-Professional Advising’s annual Health Programs Expo. World Water Day Events at Purdue Purdue will be hosting the third annual World Water Day celebration at Purdue with theme water and climate change. Aquaculture Technician Opportunity at Purdue In this paid position, you will assist with care and maintenance of fish stocks and lab functions at the lab located at ASREC, approximately 10 miles from campus. Some of the activities would include fish feeding, water quality monitoring, harvesting and selling fish, cleaning and organizing the lab and equipment. Lots of hands-on experience for someone interested in aquaculture. Weekend work required, and the start date is the beginning of the summer 2020 session (can continue into/through school year). Pre-Professional Ambassador Program
Academic Year 2020-2021 Application Information
Pre-Professional Ambassadors are a select group of students who are dedicated to the positive
promotion of pre-professional studies at Purdue University. The group is comprised of pre-
professional students from many different majors and representing different career interests.
Ambassadors will have the important role of communicating their knowledge of what it is like
to be a pre-professional student at Purdue to prospective students and families. Ambassadors
also have the opportunity to work closely with Purdue staff at various campus events, serving
as an essential component of the Pre-Professional Advising Office’s recruiting efforts.

Peer Success Coach (PSC)
Overview of Role
A Peer Success Coach (PSC) is a point-person who can offer guidance to students as
they navigate life at Purdue. PSCs are primarily upperclassmen who coach their peers
through personal, academic, and social concerns such as studying for exams,
connecting with campus resources, finding motivation, getting involved in campus
activities and organizations, and managing time. PSCs meet weekly or biweekly with
their coachees and hold them accountable for meeting their established goals.
Responsibilities of Position
Peer Success Coaches have several responsibilities in this role, including:
Coaching up to 3-4 students per semester
Meeting weekly or biweekly with assigned coachees and documenting meetings
in Boiler Connect system
Attending biweekly trainings, as scheduled, throughout the year
Attending required check-ins with PSC Supervisor throughout the semester
Holding 1 office hour per week
Additional documentation, administrative tasks, and professional development as
determined by PSC Supervisor
Qualifications for PSC Position
Students interested in applying to be a Peer Success Coach for Fall 2020 must:
Be an undergraduate student who has attended Purdue for at least 2 semesters
o May apply if you are currently in your second semester
Be willing to commit to the position for at least 2 semesters, with an option to
continue longer provided you are in good standing in the role
Be able to dedicate at least 5 hours a week to the position
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Be available for biweekly trainings in the evenings throughout the year
Be in good academic and judicial standing at Purdue University
Have the desire to assist other students with identifying and overcoming barriers
to their academic success
Possess a positive attitude and passion for helping others
Be willing to work both individually and as a part of a diverse team
Hours & Compensation: typically 4-6 hours a week, starting wage of $9.75/hour
