If you would like to speak to your child’s teacher at any time, please call the office to schedule an appointment. We would also like to congratulate our amazing grade 8 students for returning their course selection sheets on time, we have 100% of them returned. Great job grade 8s! Grade 9 Graduation Photo Retakes On the morning of Friday, March 4 we will be having our graduation photo retakes. If there are any grade 9 students who missed the original photo day or wish to have their grad photos retaken, they can do so on March 4. Also, if any students wish to purchase the graduation composite photo they can do so at the same time. The graduation composite photo costs $30. Winter Activity Day Friday, February 19 was the annual Pleasant View Activity Day. It was an amazing and enjoyable day for students as they took part in activities that enriched their learning experiences. We had close to 100% student participation. Thank you to the PV staff who arranged such a positive experience for our students! Please see page 2 of the newsletter for pictures from Activity Day. Additional PA Day – Important Information for Parents An additional Professional Activity Day (P.A. Day) has been added to the calendars of all schools in the Toronto District School Board. All TDSB schools will have a newly designated P.A. Day on Friday, April 15, 2016. This additional P.A. Day has been mandated by the Ministry of Education as a result of provincial labour negotiations. All TDSB schools will be closed to students on Friday, April 15, 2016. On this day, teachers will be taking part in professional development on provincial education priorities identified by the Minister of Education. Most Before-and-After School Programs will offer full-day care for children currently registered in their program on the P.A. Day. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to speak to their local child care provider for further details. . The remainder of the 2015-2016 school year calendar remains unaffected. Details on the school year calendar can be found on the TDSB website at: www.tdsb.on.ca/AboutUs/Calendar. Parents as Partners Conference 2016 Register today for the 2016 TDSB Parents as Partners Conference. This year, the Parent Involvement Advisory Committee (PIAC), Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), Mental Health and Well-Being Parent Partnership Committee and Model Schools for Inner Cities' Parent Academies have partnered to bring one inclusive conference to the Allstream Centre on Saturday, April 16, 2016. For more information and to register, please visit www.parentsaspartners.ca. All parents/guardians of TDSB students are welcome. Register today as space is limited! African Heritage Community Celebration! On Saturday, February 27 there will be an African Heritage Community Celebration entitled: Africa is a Continent, not a Country. Beginning at 10 a.m., vendors will offer a vast array of products for sale to the public. The program will begin promptly at noon, including performances of dance, drama and music as well as remarks from TDSB Director of Education, John Malloy, Chair of the Board, Robin Pilkey and Vice Chair Jennifer Arp. Winners of the system-wide African Heritage Month Arts contest will receive prizes in the poetry, spoken word, visual arts and essay competitions as well. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing many members of the community at this culminating event which celebrates February as African Heritage Month. The African Heritage Community Celebration will take place at John Polanyi Collegiate Institute (640 Lawrence Avenue West), which is conveniently located near the Lawrence West subway station and Allen Road. Please join us – a free lunch will be provided as well. See you there!

Parent Night at PV

On Thursday, March 10 Pleasant View will be hosting a parent night aimed at informing parents about the use of social media by students. Steve Chapelle will be our guest presenter and he will take parents through the methods and features for improving privacy and minimizing risk of using social media to children and the family. The deadline for registering to attend the event is March 3rd. If you have any questions about the night please contact the office at Pleasant View. A flyer with

more details is attached to this month’s newsletter.

PV Boys Basketball Keeps Rolling!

Congratulations goes out to the Grade 7/8 boys basketball team for their undefeated regular season. Their emerging unselfishness on the court has become their defining attribute. The boys were victorious in their quarter final game and are moving on to the play in the semi-

finals! Keep grinding, boys!

PV Fundraising

The Pleasant View School Council is spearheading this year’s

Pleasant View fundraiser. Students will be selling chocolates from

LaMontagne Chocolate. The campaign will being on March 7, 2016

and run for 3 weeks, ending March 31, 2016. The money raised by

our students will go towards upgrading the performance stage and

theatre equipment (lighting and sound). A flyer with information

regarding the fundraising campaign was sent home February 22 with

every student. Should you have any questions please contact the

main office.
