Continued from front page The prestigious event saw the stars of agility compete in five finals in the small, medium, large, large novice, and ABC (Anything But a Collie) categories as part of the London International Horse Show at Olympia.

Each competition was judged by Kennel Club Championship agility judge, Simon Chandler.

The winners were:• ABC – Edit Ratkai with

Malinois Belgian Shepherd

Dog, Monkey By Nature• Medium – Dawn Weaver

with crossbreed, Galaxy’s Ace Of Spades

• Large Novice – Mark Douglas with Border Collie, Cories Chief Paleface at Starsofmars

• Large 6-7 – Megan Hunt with Working Sheepdog, A Moment In Thyme

• Small – Dave Munnings with crossbreed, Boost Bite

Due to some confusion during judging for one of the competitors, there was an

incorrect result posted in the main arena following the Large 6-7 final. However, following consultation with the judge and judge’s assistant, both individuals involved – Nicola Wildman and Megan Hunt – will be invited to represent England at Crufts in the Large Dog International Competition.

William Delamore, Sales and Marketing Director at Skinner’s Pet Foods, said: “We look forward to Olympia every year and 2019’s competitors did not

disappoint. The standard was exceptionally high and we are delighted to be part of such a prestigious event.”

Vanessa McAlpine, Events Executive for the Kennel Club, added: “The Olympia Stakes showcased so many talented dogs and handlers who are passionate about agility and they should all feel very proud of their achievements.”

OLYMPIA AGILITY STAKES WINNERS CROWNED

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL AUDIT FOR ASSURED BREEDER SCHEME

The Kennel Club is still the only organisation in the UK to receive UKAS accreditation to certify dog

breeders, which it does under its Assured Breeder Scheme, ensuring that scheme members take all the necessary steps to breed quality, healthy puppies.

Accreditation by UKAS was recommended by Professor Sir Patrick Bateson, in the Independent Inquiry into Dog Breeding in January 2010, as an important step to give puppy buyers a clear indication of who they should trust, as there is too much confusion in the puppy buying market and too many rogue breeders.

The ABS recognises and rewards good breeding practice and aims to work with

breeders and puppy buyers to force irresponsible breeders out of business. Breeders joining the scheme commit to meeting and maintaining high standards to better the health and welfare of their puppies and breeding stock.

Assured Breeders are required to provide puppy buyers with a ‘puppy information pack’ containing guidance to assist them with the ongoing care and socialisation of their puppy. They agree to provide post-sales help and advice and, in the unfortunate event that a puppy buyer can no longer care for their puppy, will assume responsibility for re-homing.

Assured Breeders are required to allow the Kennel Club’s trained Regional Breeder Assessors to visit their premises

to conduct an inspection and a review of their husbandry practices and breeding records.

The competition, now in its 90th year, is sponsored by Skinner’s Field & Trial and was held at Faccombe Estate, Hampshire, by kind permission of Faccombe Estate Ltd. The event saw a total of 35 entries, demonstrating the continuing popularity of the working Cocker Spaniel in competitive gundog sports.

This is the fourth time that William has won the Championship, having been awarded the title most recently in 2013.

The judges at the competition were Martin Deacon, Wayne Greig, Martin Ford and Martin Smee who selected the following winners:

VULNERABLE BREEDS COMPETITION RETURNS WITH NEW FORMATFollowing the popularity of the

Vulnerable British and Irish Breeds Competition in 2019, the Kennel

Club has announced that it will take place again this year with a new format, culminating in a grand final at Crufts 2021.

In a move designed to broaden the scope of the competition and offer more opportunities to qualify, BOB winners from the Scottish Kennel Club (May), Welsh Kennel Club and Belfast championship shows will now be eligible to compete in the final, along with BOB winners from the usual selected group championship shows.

Following a similar format as last year, the BOB winners at designated championship shows will qualify for the final.

The competition is open to all vulnerable British and Irish breeds

competing at the following group championship shows: United Kingdom Toy Dog Society, National Terrier Club, National Working and Pastoral

Breeds Society, Hound Association and National Gundog Association.

In addition to the above shows, BOB winners at the Scottish Kennel Club (May), Welsh Kennel Club and Belfast championship shows will now also qualify for the final.

Dogs of breeds which are on the

Kennel Club’s vulnerable British and Irish breeds list who win BOB at the above shows will qualify for the competition.

KENNEL CLUB TO CONTINUE ITS SUPPORT OF SPECIAL BEGINNERS COMPETITION IN 2020

The Best Special Beginner declared for each breed will go forward to the Special Beginner group competition.

The class definition will be stated in the schedule as “For owner, handler or exhibit not having won a Challenge Certificate or Reserve Challenge Certificate, or for those breeds not allocated Championship Status, Best of Sex or Reserve Best of Sex at a Championship Show.” Exhibitors are asked to note that these restrictions also apply to the equivalent overseas awards, ie CAC, Reserve CAC etc.

General and group show societies must schedule at least one AV Imported Breed Register

class for each group at open and championship shows with immediate effect, the Kennel Club has announced. This mirrors the requirement that at least one AVNSC class, where relevant, must now also be scheduled for each group at these types of show.

Updated versions of the specimen schedules for breed shows, reflecting these and other changes for 2020, can now be downloaded from the Kennel Club website at bit.ly/2ZWuIhW

Kathryn Mansfield, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “The Kennel Club has responded to the wishes of exhibitors by ensuring that from now on, where relevant, each group will have both an Imported Breed Register winner as well as an AVNSC winner competing in the group competition. This can serve only

If time does not allow for all Special Beginner group judging to take place in the main ring at the show, pre judging can take place in another ring. However, all eligible exhibitors must enter the main ring for the final judging and awarding of placings.

The Kennel Club will provide sponsorship in the form of prize money

of £100 for each group to be awarded as follows – £40 for first prize, £30 for second, £20 for third and £10 for fourth. Rosettes for these placings will also be provided.

RALLY & LISTED STATUS AGILITYThe fees for Rally & Listed Status Agility are both £60. Listed Agility also has an additional fee of 5p per dog over 1000 dogs (maximum £100).
