Happy February everyone, We are but two months away to Spring and have managed our one major snow dump. Hopefully only a minimal amount to come. The way to ensure that we enjoy nice weather for next many months is to think warmly and positively and get involved with your Council. We have so much going on and we need everyone to participate. Last month we passed our charity and operational budget for 2020. Sending funds to help our charities is key to our mission. Our council is committed to help-ing those who are poor, hungry and those who are abused. We perform these works of charity through payment of money and also through our volunteer hours. Thank you all. Last month our two Oakville councils hosted the Bas-ketball free-throw competition. What a marvelous event with more schools represented and more peo-ple attending. The volunteers worked well and all the
kids and parents had a blast. Congratula-tions to An-drew Eck-stein for chairing a superb event.
It is critical that you attend our British India Fusion dinner and dance event on Saturday, February 22. General expenses including rent, insurance and oper-ating costs are extremely tight. We hope to raise $6000 from ticket sales. We need you to buy a ticket and attend. We will have 60’s style band playing all the oldies and we will have fabulous food; not spicy unless you wish this. Tickets are available at the door of our meeting on Tuesday February 12 or contact a member of the ex-ecutive. Your council needs you there dressed in your flowery 60’s garb ready to party! Our meeting on Feb. 11 will have Henry’s famous chili starting at 6 PM. For $ 5 you get chili and a bun. Hen-
ry’s famous cooking is sought after and enjoyed by all. Thanks Henry for all the work that you do. Meet other members and enjoy the infor-mation exchange. The meet-ing begins at 7.30pm with Lisa Kohler who will speak on the science behind cli-mate change also highlight-ing the Pope’s encyclical. With everyone’s assistance, we are working to limit meet-ing to approximately 9 PM and then we have oppor-tunity to meet and be sociable again. Please come back if you haven’t attended in a while. Thank you to all who attend the meetings. It is worthwhile and in-formative and fun. We have a new format for degrees. The new exempli-fication was implemented on February 2. All candi-dates receive their third degree following this hourly event ( first & second degrees included, so no sepa-rate exemplifications for these degrees anymore). If you haven’t received your Second or Third Degree, let us know and we will book you. The new format wel-comes wives and friends. It concentrates on the mes-sage of the degree teachings. Gone are the other as-pects. We expect that this new program will enhance the value you have as a Knight. We expect more men to join the Knights and be active in the Council and finally, remove many of the aged symbols which have passed their time. One key change is the secrecy as-pect. It is gone. We want your families to understand what you are getting involved with and support you when you are working on Knight Activities. We have Car / Charity Draw Tickets for sale. The funds go to charity and your Council gets some mon-ey back. The odds are great and the opportunity to win money or car is high. $ 5.00 a ticket. I look forward to seeing all at our meeting. Vivat Jesus Bob Grouchy

Basketball Free Throw Championship 2020 This years event was another well organised Knights of Columbus community event with 17 schools participating. Attendance may have been hit a little by the Teachers Union action but many schools managed to send a full roster of kids for this district event. Local dignitar-ies included MP Anita Anan, MPP Steven Crawford and Ward 4 councillor Peter Longo. A big Thank-You to PGK Andrew Eckstein and Br. Frank Aurora of MMOG council for chair-ing the event and to all council members and schools who helped make this year another resounding success.
Some photos of the Basket-ball Free Throw Competi-tion showing some brother-ly comradery (literally and figuratively). Brothers Kosterrman Harry and Mar-tin made it a family event as well!

Knight’s Prayer
Our Lady, Queen of the Knights, bless all the activities of our Order. Keep us true to our pledge, to extend the kingship of thy divine son on earth. Through Thine intercession, win for us the grace, ever to exemplify in our pub-lic and private lives, the virtues that should characterize those especially dedicated to the service of the heavenly court. Make us always aware that as your Knights, we are constantly observed, our faith judged, and our Order ap-preciated. Accept, O Mary, this renewed pledge of fealty and devotion, of Thy Servants, the Knights of Columbus.

Long-term care insurance should be an important part of every family’s planning. While we’d like to think that we will never need long-term care, or that we could easily afford it the statistics suggest otherwise:
70 percent of people over age 65 will need some type of long-term care services during their lifetime.[1] 3 years is the average duration of long-term care needed per individual.[2]
$91,250 is the average annual cost of private nursing home care.[3]
$80,300 is the average annual cost of at-home nursing care.[4]
Traditional medical insurance programs and government medical insurance programs don’t usually provide enough help. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Medicare only pays for long-term care services for a maximum of 100 days, with a copay after the 20th day, and only if you meet certain criteria. Medicaid does pay for long-term care, but only if your income is below a certain level, and you meet state requirements.[5]
