SPECIAL THANKSFOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL CHRISTMAS TREE ROUND UP!

To say this was a “community project” is a huge understatement. Saturday, January 4, the heart for giving back to the community was beating loudly as Boy Scout Troops 222 and 101 worked tirelessly, all day, collecting Christmas trees throughout the City of Lacey. But, they couldn’t have done it alone. Asplundh Tree Expert Co. donated chippers, trucks, and more importantly, a group of hard-working, energetic staff to chip the trees. LeMay Pacific Disposal also graciously donated six large container bins for the trees and the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center recycled the trees, free. The City of Lacey is sincerely grateful to all who helped make this effort a huge success.

You can still donate to the Boy Scouts for this great community service: •• Online troop222wa.org • • By mail BSA Troop 222 P.O. Box 5379 Lacey, WA 98509

CITY OF LACEY 2020 BUDGET HIGHLIGHTSLacey's 2020 Budget serves as the City’s guiding document to maintain the quality of life residents expect, and carries forward the community priorities established by the City Council.

Two notable components of the 2020 total budget include enhancements to public safety and efforts to more accurately account for the increased reliance on Lacey city government to fund social services. To address these needs, the budget includes five police officer positions (three of which are due to projected retirements in the coming year) and a newly formed Community Resource Unit to address community and neighborhood issues, including specialized services relating to homelessness.

The 2020 budget totals $156,410,821 - an approximate 1.3 percent decrease compared to the 2019 amended budget. As in previous years, we continue to invest in quality of life improvements, infrastructure maintenance and construction, and planning for the community’s future.

The 2020 General Fund budget totals $51,555,869, a 6.8 percent decrease from the 2019 amended budget. The decrease is mainly attributed to lower transfers to other funds for one-time capital purchases and projects. However, these reductions are offset by the safety enhancements (noted above) and the continued increase in the overall cost of labor.

2020 BUDGET PROJECT & PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS•• Regional Athletic Complex – Synthetic Turf Replacement on Two Fields•• Two Playground Structures – Bush Park & Depot District Park•• Capitol City Golf Club Estates Septic-to-Sewer Conversion Project•• Lacey Veterans Services Hub Exterior Improvements•• Lacey Library Interior Improvements•• College Street & 22nd Avenue Roundabout Road Project•• Hawks Prairie Road & Marvin Road Roundabout Road Project•• Ruddell Road – Retaining Wall, Sidewalk, & Lighting Project•• Street Overlay Projects (TBD Funds): Orion Drive & Meridian Road Roundabout

Meridian Rd - 31st Ave to 46th Ave

You can view the 2020 budget document online at ci.lacey.wa.us/budget, at Lacey City Hall, and Lacey Timberland Library. If you have questions, contact Troy Woo, Finance Director, at [email protected] or (360) 491-3212.
