MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MELISSA WYNN

In years past I was all about weight loss and burning calories. I thought the decreasing number on the scale was a sign of success and health. Unfortunately, I quickly grew bored and ultimately I would quit. My daughter unknowingly put the idea of weight lifting in my head while she was in college. She started using the weight room in 2013 to decompress, clear her head and stay focused for her RN at MAC. Her transformation mentally and physically was amazing. The push I needed to make that leap from cardio to weight lifting came from my son in November 2015. He wanted to get stronger so he could earn a starting position on the varsity football team that next school year. Naturally, as a mom, I wanted to help him achieve that goal. So I purchased a membership for him. He was under 18 so he needed an adult to accompany him. This is were my journey began. In the beginning, I was terrified. I was embarrassed by my lack of knowledge and strength. I started with 2 lbs dumbbell flies and a few other basic lifts. My son and I would go 2 or 3 times a week for about an hour each time. In January 2016 I decided if I was going to really do this I needed to change my eating habits and quit smoking. Soon after that, the little corner cable machine became my go-to machine. I miss that little ma-chine, it was my favorite. Over the years I have gained confidence and started branching out more. I added squats, deadlifts, and bench press. You name it I’ve tried it. It isn’t always pretty or easy when you try something new but it is worth it when you conquer it. I learned so much by watching people in the weight room. Yes, I admit I am that person. The one watching and stealing your workouts. I must applaud Taylor Sentman. She was so helpful and inspiring. I learned so much from watching and talking with her. Today, I average 5 days a week in the weight room. If I get bored I just change it up. I seek advice from others in the gym. Search the internet, YouTube, Instagram, and Pinterest. The information is limitless.

LIFT - It can mean anything you want it to. In my journey, it signifies the following: LOVE your body IMPROVE your health FIND your confidence

daughter.

and noticed her “girl”

there for her.
