The Kind of Care You Expect and Deserve…in the Comfort of Your Own Home

Wherever that might be. Soon we will offer a second residential hospice home to serve patients.

All hospices are not the same. Prairie Home Hospice is the only free-standing, Medicare certified, non-profit hospice in Lyon County.

We were established by a caring community to serve those who need hospice care.

The community continues to be a partner in the work we do every day.

Connection to community and the quality of care and compassion that has been our hallmark for over 33 years, are why Prairie Home Hospice continues to be the #1 hospice provider of choice in Lyon County today.

It Takes a Community

Meet our Volunteers of the Month

WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN

A SPECIAL TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS

For over 33 years, volunteers have been the heart and

soul of Prairie Home Hospice. That remains true today.

Expanding our capacity to serve hospice patients and

their families by opening a second Hospice House

increases the need for volunteers to help provide

compassionate service and support to patients living

there. We will need volunteers to help with meals, visit with

patients and their families, assist with activities, assist in

maintaining the facility, gardens and grounds, etc.

Our Hospice Houses are very special places that allow

community members to play a role in ensuring people

facing a terminal illness have a homey environment that

offers the best in hospice care. It’s a place where patients

and their families can spend precious time together. But

it’s more…

It’s about demonstrating, in a very compassionate

way, that hospice patients and their families are not

alone…that they are surrounded by a caring

community at a very difficult time.

It’s about making someone’s final life experience

one that reflects the best in us as a community.

For information on how you can become a Prairie Home Hospice volunteer, contact Bette Abel, Volunteer Coordinator

at (507)337-0080.

One of the last good things that may happen in a person’s life…is a hospice Volunteer !

Gratitude We are very grateful for every gift we receive and want to acknowledge each gift appropriately.

If we have inadvertently made errors in acknowledging your gift, please contact us so we can make corrections.

Tree of Remembrance

We are grateful to those who purchased lights for a Tree of Remembrance this holiday season. We also want to thank the communities of Marshall, Cottonwood, Balaton, Tracy and Minneota for helping to host our Annual Tree of Remembrance light ceremonies. This is one of our favorite annual events, as it allows us opportunity to

reach out to friends in local communities and share in remembering loved ones who have touched our lives. It has become a special holiday tradition. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your holiday season.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN DONORS We are blessed to be part of a very caring and generous community. Just over a year ago, we turned to the community to ask for support to purchase, renovate and establish a second hospice home in Marshall. We set a goal of raising $780,000 to support the

establishment of McLaughlin House. We are pleased to announce that we have exceeded our goal, raising over $830,000! The additional funds raised will help to cover project costs that exceed our initial estimates (due to changes in federal building codes), and allow us to add a dedicated bathroom for the family suite. THANK YOU to the many families, individuals, organizations and businesses listed below who have donated towards the capital campaign. We are working with Awards Plus to design a donor

recognition plaque to place outside of the new home, acknowledging all who donated to make McLaughlin House possible. If you do not see your name below or we have listed you incorrectly in any way, please contact us so that we can make sure that

every donor is correctly included on the plaque. Those who donated after January 1, 2018 may not be listed below, but will be added to the final donor list that is placed on the plaque, along with those who donate before March 15, 2018.

Questions & Answers About Hospice & Home Health Services

In this section of our newsletter, we answer questions about Hospice & Home Health Care Services, based on questions we receive from the community. In this issue, we are focusing on questions related to our fundraising efforts. Please feel free to contact us with your questions.

Question: Where do Prairie Home Hospice fundraising dollars go?

Typically, 17% or so of our budget comes from fundraising and contributions. These are the dollars that allow us to consistently provide a high level of quality care to those we serve, and allows us to continue to be the #1 hospice provider of choice in Lyon County. Because of these dollars, we are able to:

Provide more direct care staff time with patients.

Provide special services such as pet therapy, massage therapy, salon services, etc.

Provide more social work time and support for patients and families.

Provide competitive wages & benefits to employees, which helps us to recruit and retain a top notch team of employees.

Meet or exceed regulatory standards consistently.

Provide a consistently high level of patient and family satisfaction.

Provide family assistance to families who may not be able to fully pay for the services they receive.

Maintain our long standing reputation as a quality provider of hospice and home care services, which has been a key factor in the strong support we get from the community in terms of volunteers, fundraising and contributions.

As our budget grows with the increasing number of patients and families we serve, the dollars we raise through fundraising and contributions must increase proportionately, if we are to continue to the high level of quality of care that the community has come to expect from Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care. Today, we serve nearly four times as many hospice patients as we did just six years ago. In addition, we serve about twenty home care patients at any given time. As a result, our budget has doubled in the past six years – which requires that we maintain a well thought out fundraising plan, as funds raised are critical to our ability to sustain the quality care and services our patients and families expect and deserve.

We are extremely grateful for the caring community of support that continues to support our fundraising efforts

We are happy to meet with families to answer any questions you might have about hospice or home care services. Consultations are always free. Contact us at (507)337-0080. You don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to help!
