2017 FPOA Annual Meeting
Whether it was the yummy sandwiches or unusually balmy weather for January, the
turnout was impressive for the Foxfire Property Owners Association annual meeting,
held at the golf clubhouse on Monday, January 16. Below, the highlights of the meeting.
2017 FPOA BOARD
MJ Sheldon replaces Don Nelson as FPOA chair. Helen Kirk is the new board treasurer, the position formerly
held by Brenda Sheldon. (Many thanks to Don and Brenda for their years of service on the board.) Returning
members include Ginny Siedler, who will also serve as vice-chair; Page Coker, secretary; and Jim Heine,
Judy McCollum and Chad DeBonis. The board also welcomes new members Sue Sedlak and Ed Spaulding.
FPOA Membership Dues/
2017-2018 Telephone Directory If you haven’t already done so, please renew your FPOA
membership now. The dues help offset a portion of the food
costs at our annual events, which we hope encourages partici-
pation — and in turn shows what a great community we have
chosen to live in. (As the village website says: “Foxfire
Village … Where there are no strangers, just friends you
haven’t met yet!”
In addition, we encourage you to help us support our tele-
phone directory – specifically, its advertisers. The directory is
the primary source of income for the FPOA. By patronizing
the advertisers found in the directory – and telling them that’s
how you found them –you’re helping the Board attract and
retain these clients, and we all stand to benefit.
Dues for 2017:
$ 15 Non-resident property owner membership
$ 25 Resident membership
$ 30 Social membership
Make check payable to FPOA and mail to FPOA, P O.
Box 233, Foxfire Village, NC 27281. Helen Kirk, treasurer,
will contact you upon receipt of your check to arrange the
pick up of the Foxfire directory. Or, email Helen if you prefer
to drop off your check: [email protected], and if you would
like to purchase an additional directory for $10
We appreciate your membership and support and encour-
age you to join today!
Mayor’s Report Mayor Mick McCue provided a summary
of Foxfire Village Council news over the
past year, including:
Planning and Zoning Board:
The new land use plan was finalized last year
and can be accessed at www.foxfirenc.com.
Real Estate: the Bad News:
Stonehill Pines: The 1,500 acres are still for
sale by Carolina Farm Credit.
Woodland Circle (160 acres): Status quo here
as well. There have been no offers.
Real Estate: The Good News:
Sixteen (16) new homes were constructed in
2016; 10 are currently under construction (6
in the village, 4 in the ETJ). In addition, the
council is discussing plans to build a new
town hall next to the existing town hall, possi-
bly a 3,000-square-foot structure.
Foxfire Village Pool:
While the pool is still viewed as a valuable
community asset, the council will continue to
monitor the expenses. Some significant reno-
vation expenses were incurred last season,
while attendance was slightly down.

Mayor’s Report (continued from page 1)
Foxfire Police Department:
The department is currently staffed with three full-time
officers; in addition to chief Chad Shue, officers Gary
Garner and Daniel Ritter are now part of the team. So is
a new canine officer, Karma.
Thanks to the department’s participation in the Gov-
ernor’s Highway Safety Patrol Program, focusing in our
area on speed and traffic enforcement on Hoffman Road,
they’ve been earning points that go a long way toward
buying equipment – and lots of it. The department also
encourages any residents who are interested in the Senior
Touch Program to call them for more information. In this
program, the police will, as needed, come by a resident’s
home for any obvious safety/security checks.
Roads and Refinancing:
2016 was the “year of Ridge Road,” in terms of major
repaving projects. On the calendar for 2017: improve-
ments to Foxfire Blvd.
2016 also saw the refinancing of the loans on the Vil-
lage Green Park and the new water well, to the tune of
$26,000 in future interest savings. The council hopes to
do the same this year with the Woodland Circle loan.

Bob and Jennifer Bevelacqua Bob and Jennifer Bevelacqua, along with
their children, Jessica, 16, and Guilana, 11,
moved into their home at 1 Pine Glen Court on
December 22, 2016. Their family dog, Boots,
made the trip as well.
The family moved to the area from North-
ern Virginia and spent a year in Pinehurst be-
fore moving to Foxfire Village. They would
drive through the area on their way to and from
work and thought it would be a great place to
live. (Bob’s father also moved down here from
Virginia and has a home in Jackson Springs.)
Bob and Jennifer are both prior military;
they actually met at Fort Bragg. Bob currently
works in business development at Acadami, in
Moyock, N.C. Jennifer works for K2, in Derby.
Jennifer loves all kinds of sports, such as
scuba, and is a big Steelers fan. Bob also likes
to scuba dive, fly remote control WWII model
aircraft, and is a hunter as well.
Please welcome the entire family to our
community.

Jim and Renee Patton Jim and Renee Patton moved into their new home on 47
Richmond Road in October 2016. Along with Jim and
Renee, their daughter Rachael, 15, son Clayton, 23, and
dog Daisy moved here from Bolivar Ohio. They still have
three sons living in Ohio: Jacob, Jordan and Joseph. They
have one grandson, Jude, 5 months old, also in Ohio.
They found Foxfire as they were looking for a home
somewhat close to Jim’s new workplace at Hood Packag-
ing, in Hamlet. They loved the atmosphere and friendliness
of the village. Once the house is settled and organized,
Renee will be looking for a position as an allergy techni-
cian. Currently, she is focused on getting the house just so
and spending some time in her pool before she goes back
to work. Jim enjoys playing golf when he can and is
already looking for a used golf cart.
Please welcome the entire family to our community.

and Dennis retired from many years in the
automobile industry serving in the range from
sales agent to general manager in Dodge and
Cadillac dealerships.
They moved to our area as a nice midway
point among their children. They found Foxfire
almost by accident as they drove through the
area looking for a retirement home.
Dennis and Judi have three children: daugh-
ter Tracy, who lives in in Winston-Salem;
daughter Meredith, who lives in in Goldsboro;
and son Johnson, who lives in Murphy. They
have three grandchildren: Chris, 19; Julynne,

Dennis is a longtime golfer, but recent shoulder
issues have sidelined his game.
Please welcome them to our village

Hunter, 12, Mason, 11, and their dog, Bella,
recently moved into their new home at 3 Pine
Glen Court.

is from Candor. They found Foxfire in their
search for a home close to Camp Mackall.
They loved the environment, the quiet and the
house they found here. They also think the
local schools are great for the boys.
Alan is currently serving on active duty as
an instructor at Camp Mackall. Katie is starting
up her residential services, Pristine Cleaners,
available at (910) 975 1669.

Foxfire Golf News and Notes
It’s no secret the golf course has taken a beating over the
past few months, as head pro Scott Brazaski acknowledged at
last month’s FPOA meeting. That said, in addition to thanking
the club members for their support and patience while the
courses are being attended to, he noted that repair efforts ap-
pear to be on a positive track, and that the Red Course is re-
covering. Work on the courses is ongoing, he said, pointing
out that this time of year is when the crew is able to do many
of the improvements that will pay off once the warmer
weather returns.
For example, for the first time in 11 years the courses have
not been overseeded for the winter, which Scott said allows
for a stronger weed control program than in previous years.
This will allow the courses to keep the “clean” look of dor-
mant Bermuda. It is a costly program as well.
Another main project is the sodding of the greens on the
Grey Course, which began in late fall and is ongoing. And this
summer, the greens of the Red Course will be transitioned to
Champion Bermuda. Work is continuing on the bunkers, and
work or repairing (not repaving) cart paths will be done in the
spring.
Finally, in response to a question from the audience, Scott
said he didn’t foresee the kitchen reopening anytime soon —
at least not at this time of year. “But we’re open to suggestions
for events,” he added.
