So many things have happened while we have been in hiatus. The major item is that our club now has a sea container as its new storage facility. I would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their 7me to move us into the sea container from our old storage facility. And a very special thanks to Peter for installing the lights in the sea container. As you have seen, the hall is being renovated by the City of S7rling. You will also have no7ced that due to the hall renova7ons the car park area has been drama7cally reduced. We suggested that you try to find a spot in Okely Road. Alterna7vely, use the car park off Monyash Road and walk down to our training grounds. And do remember there is parking across the road at the shopping centre too. We held our apprecia7on func7on for the volunteers of our club which was a success. Thanks go to Sue and everyone who arranged the func7on this year. It was a wonderful night at the Croa7an Club. One of the councillors for Hamersley Ward, Andrew Guilfoyle (and family), was in aOendance and I believe he had a good 7me interac7ng with his cons7tuents. 1976 - 2016

From the EditorHello Members,

Here we are back again and it already gearing up to be a big year for our club. The club rooms will undergo a massive rebuild and our gear had to be moved into a sea container for the duration. Please be aware that construction is likely to cause some parking issues so please be patient.

We’ve already had our first competition for the year. Thanks to Maria Caratozzolo for her hard work over Christmas getting it organised, and also to those volunteers who helped with stewarding.

And the big news this year is your club celebrates 40 years. That represents many dogs and owners who have been involved to make it what it is today. Make sure you keep up with club notices on Facebook or the website so you'll know what is happening this year. My prediction...it's going to be a BIG ONE!

Have great year.

Lenore

January:MoveintotheSeaContainer

Thanks to an eager group of helpers, the contents of our shed at the hall were moved into the sea container where all our equipment will be stored while the hall is being renovated. Some are so happy with this new location they may be quite sad to see go when the renovations are complete.

Carine Open Space

• Drawing inspiration from the Dutchfield Dog Survival Challenge, NST&ODC will be running a Doggy Go Go Obstacle Dash in April this year.

• The course will consist of about 15 obstacles designed to get you and your dog working together as a team.

• You and your dog will need to complete the obstacles together to get through the course. • There will be two categories: a competition category for those who want to go all out, and a

recreational category for those who just want to have fun! • Stay tuned to training announcements and website and Facebook updates!

Treats: Keep all food secure in a bumbag, treat pouch, pockets or sealed container and wash carefully after use. NO TREATS TO BE KEPT IN PLASTIC BAGS as they can be dropped and ingested by another dog, or blow away with the same results.

Leads and Collars: All dogs must be on a lead at all times, unless indicated otherwise by an instructor of the club. Collars:- We recommend soft ½ check (martingales), head collars (haltis and gentle leaders), harness (walking harness, not a car harness) or a flat collar. Choke/correction collars must be removed or attached to a soft collar. Leads:- we recommend a 4ft - 6ft lead which should be light and easy to use. No chain leads, and extender leads are not be used in class.

Crated or Tethered Dogs: Some of the club instructors will have their own dogs tethered, or in a crate, while taking class. Please never allow a child or dog, or even yourself, to approach these dogs. It is unfair and can cause some dogs distress as they feel a need to defend their territory.

Play/Greetings: We do not allow play between dogs on lead at anytime, before, during or after class. If you want your dog to meet another dog, keep your distance until you ask the other person. The meeting should then be kept short (about 3 seconds) before the dogs separate. There are dogs who do not like long hellos, while others are uncomfortable with dogs coming right up to them. Please respect these dogs and their owners.

Appropriate Clothing: Please wear appropriate clothing, including closed in shoes. Sunscreen is available at the van for members’ use.
