Colossians 3:14

(On January 25th, Nancy Fritz, who has been with First Baptist Church School for a total of 31 years ((16 years as a teacher and 15 years as the Director)), announced her retirement as the Director effective at the end of the school year. Below is the letter that I have provided to the church and the school.)

Thank You to Nancy Fritz and Next Steps I want to thank Nancy for the decades of service she provided to First Baptist Church School (FBCS). She spent 16 years as a teacher and 15 years as the administrator. She has loved, sacrificed, and given so much to our school. Personally, I want to thank her for the love and care she has shown to my children inside and outside the school. It is challenging to imagine the school without Nancy, but having heard her heart and how she is sensing God’s leading, I believe God has some wonderful opportunities for her as she takes this step of faith. As Nancy has discussed her retirement with me, I have said numerous times, “this is sad but not bad.” It is sad because she will be missed, but it is not bad because God has some wonderful things in store for her. I look forward to witnessing what God has in store for Nancy next. As we continue into the spring semester, you will learn about opportunities to show your thanks to Nancy. There will be opportunities to show your thanks through a financial gift, and we will be scheduling a special retirement party towards the end of the school year. We will let you know about these opportunities as they are planned. I have asked the School Committee of our church to take the lead in being the search committee for the next administrator. I will also be on this committee. The School Committee is composed of Mary Sparks, Judy Hyman, Lee Gonzales, James Crady, and Kristy Musser. In preparation for the selection of the next administrator, the School Committee will do the following:• Solicit input from teachers, staff, parents, and the church about the next administrator.• Review and recommend any potential edits of the job description to the Personnel Committee. • Begin the search for the next administrator. One of the things that I appreciate about Nancy letting us know so early in the spring is that it gives everyone time to prepare and make this transition. I want to thank Nancy again for her years of service. She has been a blessing, and she will continue to be a blessing in whatever God has in store for her next. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at either 979-836-2807 or [email protected]. Sincerely,Ross Shelton, Pastor

WORSHIP & MUSIC MINISTRYWe’ve had a great start to the year in our music ministry and are anticipating God to continue to do amazing things. There are so many ways that you can be a part of what He is doing through the worship ministry of Brenham’s FBC! You might say, “Well, I’m not a good singer and I don’t play an instrument.” But, Biblical worship – including worship through music, is a privilege and a command that all of us have received. Maybe you are not called to be in the choir or be an instrumentalist. By genuinely worshipping uninhibitedly in your pew, you are serving the church and encouraging those around you by helping lead them in worship. By praying for God’s blessing and increase in specific areas of the music ministry, you can play a vital role in the growth and effectiveness of those of us called to lead from the stage! Perhaps, there are other, non-musical gifts you have that can be used to enhance our opportunities for worship. Pray and ask God to reveal to your heart how He wants to use you – you might just be surprised!Blessings,Charles Covin

THE ENCORE MINISTRY IS ALWAYS UP TO SOMETHING!

Our Encore Ministry is comprised of Adults 55 yrs of age and above who know God has more for each of them to accomplish for His kingdom. Therefore, our Encore adults are growing in faith, community, ministry, missions and their love for others.

GREAT STUFF

Last month we held our first Encore sponsored Community Bible Study series at The Cannery Kitchen. Over a 3 day period, Dr. Charles Walton gave us great insight to the book of Ephesians. With a wonderful meal, 60-75 people daily enjoyed the opportunity to grow in their faith and form deeper friendships. Thank you to our Encore Council for their vision in hosting this event.

Dear Friends,Here we are starting the second month of this new year. It has been busy for us trying to get all of the holiday decorations down and packed away for another few months. We have also been busy helping take care of our grandson, Tyler who has had multiple seizures and visits to the ER this year. Two visits this week, as I am writing this. It never ceases to amaze me how many people pray for him and our family when they find out. Chad and Bobbye Marrs have been reaching out to Tyler, since he is a teenager, came and prayed with Tyler on Sunday night at the ER. We think of February as the love month, but I must say that over the last few months with Tyler’s increase in seizures we have felt love from so many friends and family from all over the nation. My hope is for this to spread into our community, and that Washington County will know that at First Baptist Church we are sharing the love of Christ everywhere we go in the community and beyond. We need for them to know that we are constantly sharing our love, and not just in a designated month. So my charge to you is to go out and share some LOVE!Blessings,Reba Pair

Bible Verse of the Month

Thought of the Month

STUDENT MINISTRY

10

The start of a new year brings a lot of fun for the students. This month is going to be so exciting with my first Disciple Now weekend. Lots of planning and preparation go into Disciple Now to make it a smooth and productive weekend. But it would all be for nothing without covering it all in prayer. Would you consider partnering with me to pray specifically about Disciple Now? • Please pray for our Host Homes and that these adults don’t just see themselves as a place for kids to crash, but that their investment helps show students what a Godly home looks like. Some of our students don’t live a loving environment. Pray that those students would be blessed by their Host Home. • Please pray for our Small Group Leaders. These college students have to be “ON” all weekend. Pray for their energy and that God would speak through them. • Please pray for our worship leaders, The Tyler Murphy Band. Pray that our worship would glorify Christ. • Please pray for our evangelist, Casey Johnson. Pray that hearts would be softened to hear the life-changing word of God. • Please pray for our volunteers who are helping with registration, food, recreation and transportation. Each contact with a student during this intense weekend has the potential to either enhance or detract from their walk with the Lord. We want only to encourage and support that. • Please pray for our students. I could list so many things to pray for regarding their faith, their problems, their futures and their relationships. Would you ask that the Holy Spirit lead you especially in this area? He knows more than I do what to pray for! Thank you for your faithfulness! In Him,Bro. Chad

MEMORY VERSE

BFBC Kids Klub monthly Big Idea is Kindness: Showing others they are valuable by how you treat them.

11

Weekly Bottom Lines: 1. There’s always time to be kind. 2. Be kind to your family and friends. 3. Be kind to people who are overlooked. 4. Be kind to people who aren’t kind to you

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Prov 16:3January started off with four shows in the public elementary schools and First Baptist Church School. We started the kids thinking about commitment – making a plan and putting it into practice. This has been a great Big Idea to help me start off the new year. Already I am looking into the next school year to make a plan in order to put it into practice. What about you? Are you thinking about commitment in this way? Some people at this time of the year have made “new resolutions.” Some have made “personal goals.” Others have fashioned a “game plan” for the next year. No matter what the title, have you made a plan to put into practice? I have a 3’X4’ four-month calendar hanging on the wall in my office. I have taken the time to fill out the next four months and then made a calendar on one of the 3’X2’ white boards on the other wall. With some creativity I have 5 & ½ months scheduled out on my walls. However, for as much as I seem to have things under control it is all for nothing if I don’t check with God first.Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” This does not mean to make your plans and ask Him to approve them, bless them or put His seal on them. It means that we commit to Him first all that we will do and He will make the plans that you are to do according to His plan. So, I ask again, “What about you? Are you thinking about commitment in this way?” I am not accusing as if I have done it already and you need to get on board. I am speaking out of conviction – as one who realized that things are on my calendar more out of repetition than God’s new direction. I’m going back to the drawing board – You?His Servant & Yours,Bro. Alex

PRESCHOOL MINISTRIES

It’s love month! It’s love month! I love this month. All those hearts. All the pink, red and purple. And all that chocolate. Oh wait, that’s not what love month is all about. Love month is about showing the people around us how much we really do care. Or, in the new lingo, that we <3 them. We love them. No matter how much love and how many <3s we shower on our favorite people, it will never be anything compared to the love that Jesus has for us. Jesus’ love is immeasurable. It’s wide and long and high and deep. It’s forever. It’s huge. It’s awesome. It’s what we want our preschoolers to know about this month. We’re going to tell some love stories this month. No, not the Hallmark channel ones – the real ones from the Bible. The ones that show us how much Jesus loves us. We’ll start with two parables that Jesus told to show us how much we are loved. The first week is the story of the lost sheep. That shepherd searched and searched until he found the lost sheep. That shepherd loved his sheep just as Jesus loves us. Then, we’ll tell the parable of the prodigal son. No matter how many bad choices the younger son made, the father in the story still loved him. And, Jesus loves us no matter what too.In weeks three and four, we’ll tell two stories from the life of Jesus. Week three is the story of the Centurion, the mighty soldier whom Jesus helped just by speaking. Jesus loves us and will use His power to help us. Finally, we’ll tell the story of Mary and Martha, two of Jesus’ friends. Jesus was friends with them, and He wants to be friends with us, too – forever! Jesus wants to be our friend forever.I <3 You! (I Heart You)

We had such a great time learning about when Jesus healed the blind man. The kids got to see what it was like to be blind for a little bit and also created mud fun brown paint and shaving cream to put on their eye drawing and then heal them with wipes. They loved that part!

FBC SCHOOL & EEC “Love is in the air!” We naturally think of February as the “Love” month. The greatest act of love I can think of is God’s love for us—He sacrificed His own son for Eternity. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 We LOVE your children and LOVE our jobs of teaching them and nurturing them! In Christ, Nancy Fritz

Texas Celebration Tickets are now on sale; with a catered meal. A live and silent auction will be held. Each year First Baptist Church School has one fundraiser, “Texas Celebration,” which will be held on March 6, 2015. Some of these activities and provisions include new technology, playground equipment, Enrichment Week, new computers, science lab materials, Field Day, field trips, and music supplies. As you can see, the money we raise is a vital part of our school’s budget each year. “Texas Celebration” raises money in several ways. We have kid’s booths and a General Store, a Live Auction, which includes class projects, and a Silent Auction. We strive to have an exciting variety of items and services in our auction to please the bidders and provide excellent advertising for the business. Contributing businesses will be thanked and listed in our auction booklet, as well as in our half-page ad in “The Banner Press”, our local newspaper. We ask your business to consider making a donation to our auction. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated, and it would help support the education of many children in our community Cash Sponsorship OpportunitiesSilver Level Sponsorship ($1000.00 - $1999.99) Bronze Level Sponsorship ($101.00 - $999.99) Friend Level Sponsorship (Up to $100.00) For more information, please contact Kacy Kuespert at (979) 203-7884 Thank you for your time and consideration.

FROM TROY’S HEART So it is February, the month of love!! What does that mean for us as followers of Jesus? Well, it means we should understand the fullness and truth of love. Who better to know the reality of love than those who have Love living inside of them. I John 4:8 tells us, “God is love.” Since our faith teaches us that God lives inside of us as we, by faith, receive Jesus as Savior, then God, Love, resides IN us. Incredible to fathom, isn’t it? Love is in me, but how do I live it? I don’t! I surrender to Him who lives in and loves me. Just as seeds produce fruit of like-kind, God in me will reproduce Himself in me, if I surrender my self-centered will to Him. My role is to allow the soil of my life to nurture the seed of God/Love. He will produce the fruit of loving. “The fruit of the Spirit is love...” Galatians 5:22 In a few weeks, Feb. 13th @ 6:30pm, our Encore Ministry will host an Agape Banquet. The word agape is one of the Greek words for “love”. Agape is the word used for God’s love, a selfless, unconditional love. Our hope is at the Agape Banquet all generations of adults, college & above, will come together to celebrate God’s amazing love for us ALL! The cost for the meal and entertainment (Guy Cagle and wife, Larinda Horan) will be $12 per person. Tickets are at the church office. Since many of our senior adults, widows or widowers do not drive in the evenings, we will be arranging rides. If you are younger and could help host another member/couple, by driving them, please call the church office to be partnered, 979-836-2807. It is my hope to see God’s love displayed among us more and more each day. May the Agape Banquet be a “feast” of His love! I LOVE you, Troy

Thank You! Brenham’s Marriage Maintenance Weekend

Last month, we held Brenham’s Marriage Tune Up 2 Conference with Jeff & Debby McElroy. Over 300 people attended the weekend and were encouraged, inspired, and strengthened in their marriages. Of course, to pull off a conference of this magnitude took over 80 volunteers. I want to say thank you to those volunteers who served the people of our community during Marriage Tune Up Weekend. There is not enough space to write each name in this article, but if you helped with the Prayer Team, Registration Team, Hospitality & Decoration Team, Childcare Team, Food Team, Door Prize Team, Greeter Team, Sound and Video Team, Resource Table Team or Promotion Team, your contributions were greatly appreciated. A special thanks to the leaders and workers of the teams above: Margaret & Craig Agnew, Burt Bearden, Bob & Mary Kay Billington, Kara Freeman, Martha Haydon, Judy Hyman, Heather & Ron Kirby, Dave and Kacy Kuespert, Jim and Debbie McDowell, Scott & Tricia Schroeder, Troy & Kelley Sikes, Corey & Kristi Stegent, Stacey & Nathan Strickland, and Gregg & Elisa Workman.
