FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD Today we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This feast falls on the fortieth day after Christmas. It is a reminder of the Lord Jesus’ sacrifice in the temple in Jerusalem and the rite of Our Lady’s purification. Traditionally, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord is called the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin or Candlemas. At the time of the Presentation, old Simeon took Jesus into his arms and spoke these prophetic words: “A light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel” (Luke 2:32). In Poland, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord concludes the period for singing carols and displaying the nativity and Christmas trees. It marks the end of the traditional Christmas season. (the liturgical season ended with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord) This feast ends the cycle of ceremonies associated with the revelation to the world of the Incarnate Word. For the last time this year the Liturgy mentions the Christ as Baby. At our Masses today we will bless candles. You can take one home if you wish.

WORLD DAY OF CONSECRATED LIFE Since the year 1997, the universal Church celebrates the Day of Consecrated Life on the 2nd of February, a day established by St. John Paul II and devoted to prayer for those who have given their lives in service to God. This includes those in countless monasteries, religious congregations, associations and institutes of apostolic life of the laity. Let us remember them in our prayers.

CCD - RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Monday, Grades 1-11 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at St. Mary’s. WEDNESDAY - NOVENA to Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be said after evening Mass 6:30pm in Polish. Prayer requests in English or Polish, printed clearly may be placed in the box at the main entrance. FIRST THURSDAY - MASS and HOLY HOUR for priests

“Praying for priests is not an option; it is a holy duty and divine mandate.” Johnette Benkovic. Please join us on Thursday, February 6th, for a special time of prayer for our priests, deacons and seminarians. We will begin with Mass in English at 6:30pm, followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. We will pray the Rosary, the Chaplet of Reparation for Priests, and other prayers, as well as have time for silent, personal prayer. A priest will be available for the Sacrament of Confession during that time. Our evening will end at 8:00pm with reposition of the Blessed Sacrament. FIRST FRIDAY 3:00 PM - Chaplet of Divine Mercy (Bilingual) and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until 6:30 PM followed by benediction, Litany to Sacred Heart followed by Holy Mass in Polish. Confessions as usual: Thursday at 7:00 PM and Friday at 6:00 PM

Father Goodavish who was ordained in 1987 will share personal witness about Food For The Poor’s mission to care for the destitute, as a means of living out the Gospel mandate to love one another.

20TH ANNIVERSARY DIOCESAN CATHOLIC MEN’S CONFERENCE

Men (of all ages, including teens and college students) are invited to this important 20th Anniversary Conference, scheduled for Assumption College on Saturday, March 28. MARY’S CENACLE meets on the 2nd 3rd and 4th Thursday’s of each month at 7pm in the Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel (the side chapel in the church) and is open to all our parishioners. SAVE THE DATE - PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY Please join us on Saturday, February 22nd as we join with thousands of Catholics across the country in a Public Square Rosary to be held at twelve noon. This national prayer effort is sponsored by America Needs Fatima. We will be praying the Rosary and other prayers as we stand outside along Ward Street asking our Lord for the conversion of America, and in reparation for all the sins committed against the most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the most Immaculate Heart of Mary. This is also the anniversary of the first appearance of Jesus to St. Faustina in 1931. We will honor this event by praying the Litany of St. Faustina. After the prayer service we will have an opportunity to venerate the 1st class relic of St. Faustina inside the church. Please add this important date to your calendar!

ŚWIĘTO OFIAROWANIA PAŃSKIEGO

MATKI BOŻEJ GROMNICZNEJ.

Obchodzimy dzisiaj Święto Ofiarowania Pańskiego. Święto

Ofiarowania Pańskiego przypada 40-tego dnia po Bożym

Narodzeniu. Jest to pamiątka ofiarowania Pana Jezusa w

świątyni jerozolimskiej i dokonania przez Matkę Bożą obrzędu

oczyszczenia. Tradycyjnie Święto Ofiarowania Pańskiego

zwane jest Świętem Matki Bożej Gromnicznej. W czasie

Ofiarowania starzec Symeon wziął na ręce swoje Pana Jezusa i

wypowiedział prorocze słowa: "Światłość na oświecenie pogan

i na chwałę Izraela" (Łk 2, 32). Poświęconą w ten dzień świecę

– gromnicę zapalano w niebezpieczeństwach. Zwykle była ona

pięknie przystrajana i malowana. W czasie burzy zapalano ją i

stawiano w oknach, by prosić Maryję o ochronę. Gromnicę

wręczano również konającym, aby ochronić ich przed napaścią

złych duchów.

Ze świętem Matki Bożej Gromnicznej kończy się w Polsce

okres śpiewania kolęd, i dekoracji świątecznych - kończy się

tradycyjny (a nie liturgiczny - ten skończył się wraz ze świętem

Chrztu Pańskiego) okres Bożego Narodzenia. Podczas Mszy świętych będzie poświęcenie gromnic.

ŚWIATOWY DZIEŃ ŻYCIA KONSEKROWANEGO

Od 1997 r. 2 lutego Kościół powszechny obchodzi

ustanowiony przez św. Jana Pawła II Dzień Życia

Konsekrowanego, poświęcony modlitwie za osoby, które

oddały swoje życie na służbę Bogu i ludziom w niezliczonych

zakonach, zgromadzeniach zakonnych, stowarzyszeniach życia

apostolskiego i instytutach świeckich. Pamiętajmy o nich

podczas naszej dzisiejszej Eucharystii.

Kolejny raz organizujemy w naszej parafii kurs Alpha. Alpha jest serią 10 spotkań wyjaśniających podstawy wiary chrześcijańskiej w bardzo przystępny sposób. Każde spotkanie podejmuje inny temat dotyczący wiary i daje możliwość dyskusji. Alpha prowadzona jest na całym świecie i każdy jest na niej mile widziany. Jeżeli czujesz, że czegoś ważnego brakuje w Twoim życiu, albo chciałbyś poznać lepiej swoją wiarę zapraszamy Cię na kurs, który rozpoczynamy we czwartek 13 lutego o godz. 6:30 wieczorem.
