The current Sea Container Coordinator, Pat Rehovsky, is looking for someone to co-coordinate the 2018 Sea Container Program and a permanent Coordinator beginning in 2019. The 2018 program starts on April 9 and completed on April 20. Shipments are received, color coded, and staged into shipping lanes within a warehouse. The third week, shipments are loaded into sea containers and shipped to Haiti. Please contact Pat Rehovsky (615-881-9444) to gain a better understanding of the Coordinator’s tasks and responsibilities.

Preparing for Lent Lent is a season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. In order to see that our preparation for Easter has a communal, and not just an individual dimension, the Church gives us certain norms for a common Lenten observance. The general Lenten guidelines are as follows:

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, and is a day

of universal fasting and abstinence. Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday,

Good Friday and all Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years of age and older.

Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

during Lent by all Catholics who are age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.

Those who are sick, pregnant or nursing, or whose health

would adversely be affected by fasting or abstinence should not consider themselves bound by these norms.

During the season of Lent, we are all called to embrace penances and to perform works of charity that reflect our desire for conversion of heart. Let us all pray fervently for those Catechumens and Candidates who will celebrate the Easter Sacraments with us this year. May this Lent lead us all to a deeper union in Christ with one another.

“One Pretty Dress” is an annual non-profit event held by Pope John Paul II High School which provides prom dresses, accessories and shoes free of charge to girls who would not otherwise be able to attend prom. We would greatly appreciate any and all forms of donations. The deadline for donations is the same as the event date, February 24th. For more information on donations and delivery process, contact Liz Wood at [email protected].

STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be held every Friday during Lent at 7 p.m. in the church. Each week the Stations will be led by a different group. We will also continue our Lenten tradition of a meatless supper at 6 p.m. in the Social Hall. All are welcome to come and join us! Children’s Stations will be March 2, and March 16.

The St. Luke Altar Society will be providing the Meatless Lenten Meal on Friday, February 23rd at 6 p.m. Join us for five varieties of soup, grilled cheese sandwiches and mac & cheese.

TAX TIME WILL SOON BE HERE If you need a tax donation letter for 2017, please call the Parish

Office at 615-459-9672 to have your name added to the list. Only those people who request a tax donation letter will

receive one. The office does not automatically send out tax letters. Thank you for your cooperation.
