The essential notion behind establishing a K-12 data governance system is that decisions are only as good as the data on which they are based.
As we transform data into information to facilitate wise decision-making, users and managers of K-12 data need to establish data definitions, data and process ownership and authority, accountability, security, and reporting needs and requirements.
The goal of the K-12 data governance effort is to bring clarity and understanding to these issues.
