Dear St. Anthony families,
I remember last year during Lent, when I was teaching middle school Religion
here at St. Anthony School. There were twin boys in 7th grade who surprised
me when they refused some candy during a class celebration. They said,
“Sorry, Ms. Hill, we gave up chocolate for Lent!” I was so impressed with their
commitment and dedication to their Lenten fast. This year, let’s all take the
lead of the Mauro boys, and make real commitments during Lent. Decide
where to fast, pray and give, and then DO IT! In my house, we are fasting
from soda pop and gossip. We are praying the rosary together each night,
and are giving away a bag of clothes or food each week. If you need some
inspiration, here are a few good ideas:
www.loyolapress.com has Lenten Moments of Mercy, a daily email you can
sign up to receive.
www.dynamiccatholic.com has Best Lent Ever, daily emails by Matthew Kelly
– the same who authored the book, Rediscover Jesus.
www.osv.com has the free Year of Mercy app, which has daily readings and
exercises for the whole year, including Lent, that you can download to your
phone or any other device.
See you all at the fish frys!
In Christ,
Melissa Hill

Next weekend, Feb. 21st at the 8:30am Mass there will be a remembrance of all Legacy Society members as the Mass Intention. On Sunday Feb. 28th, the Foundation will be hosting a pasta dinner from 11:00am-3:30pm in the parish hall. Tickets are on sale now. Please see a Foundation board member to purchase your ticket(s). The prices are $10/person or $30/family maximum. Following the pasta dinner, Bingo will be played from 4:30pm-7:00pm in the parish hall. Remember to join us on Friday evenings for Stations of the Cross and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 5:30pm in the church and the Fish Fry in the parish hall starting at 5:00pm. Something new this year, we will be having an informal question and answer session with our priests on Feb.. 26th at 6pm during the fish fry, and on March 2nd at the same time.
