A Faithful Note from Father Fred

Stewardship of Treasure “For it is in giving that we receive”

A Stewardship Thought “Using God's Gifts, Doing God's Work”

“Brothers and sisters, so whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

Do a quick check of your priorities. Where does God rank in that list? If He’s not first, you have some work to do.

Putting God first in everything helps us from putting other “gods” (like our pride, ego, money and possessions, to name a few) before God. Before making a decision, ask yourself, “Am I doing this for the glory of God, or for the glory of me?”

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, It is that time of year again, the season of Lent is upon us. This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, already!! It is a day of fasting and abstinence. Three meals, but two of them equal a full meal, and abstain from meat today. Have a plan for your Lenten journey. The parish is offering a program on the Mass called, “Living the Eucharist”. The program is being offered on Wednesday evenings in the social hall, and in small groups around the parish. Sign up for participation today. Over and above this each one of us is to

determine how we will observe the three pillars of Lenten spirituality: Fasting, prayer and alms giving (charity). Giving up things is a tried and true Lenten practice. But there could also be positive actions involved in our Lenten journey. In addition to giving up sweets we could speak a word of encouragement to family and co-workers. Instead of giving up TV we could pray daily for our enemies. In addition to giving up alcohol we could add an extra five minutes to our daily prayer. Lent is about growing in faith, hope and charity. Whatever we chose to do, let’s keep it simple and doable. Have a good Lent as we journey together to Easter.
