February 10, 2020 Hello, Trinity’s Beloved 2 nd Graders’ Families, We anticipate another wonderful weekend. We’re preparing for Saturday’s Silent Auction. Friday, February 14 th , the Ashuelot Concert Orchestra will play for our students. Please ensure your child has passed in their January reading log. I am missing some of them. We now have this week’s schedule: Bible: We study John’s Birth, Jesus’ Birth, The Wise Men’s visit, and the Flight to Egypt. Monthly Bible Verses: Students practice these February Verses: Romans 10:17: Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Mark 10:14: Let the children come to Me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Writing: Students use their morning journals twice a week. We learn complete and incomplete sentences, author’s purpose, plural nouns, synonyms and antonyms, point of view, pronouns, main idea and details, fact or opinion, compare and contrast adjectives, summarizing and organizing, kinds of sentences, capitalization, helping and linking verbs, sequence, and following directions. Math: We will be finishing chapter 5 and starting our unit on time and money. Our first lessons will be on time to the hour, time to the half hour, 15-minute intervals, and math facts. We will be taking our chapter 5 math test on Tuesday or Wednesday. Reading: We read with friends, listen, and comprehend. The students silently read and select books that fit them well. This week, we will read Hungry Little Hare. We will read each story as a class, listen to it on a CD, and read it with a buddy. We will learn the story’s vocabulary words. Vocabulary: The vocabulary words match this week’s reading selection: camouflage, surroundings, patterns, pretenders, blend, and mimicry. Science: We will finish invertebrate animals and begin the habitat unit.

Social Studies: We study the book series, The World Around Us. Spelling: We will practice the oo words. For homework, they write sentences using their spelling words. They need to use all of the spelling words (including the bonus words), and they use up to two spelling words per sentence. The homework is due Wednesday. The test will be on Friday.
