SqUIDhAT RECORDS pg 5SquidHat Records is an artist-friendly, independent record label created to help talented, interesting, creative, and passionate artists record and promote their music, develop their brand and image, and increase their exposure to a larger audience. The label’s focus includes — but is not limited to — punk, funk and aggressive indie rock.

NEGATIVE GAIN pg 18Negative Gain has been releasing industrial, electronic, and gothic music since the late ’90s, with bands like Cruciform Injection, Filament 38, Yavin 4, Pail, and Emergence. In 2011 Negative Gain brought Roger Jarvis on board as co-owner and A&R guru, and the newly formed entity helped introduce HexRx and Alter Der Ruine to a new generation. The label continues to barrel forward, thinking outside the box and challenging musicians and consumers to keep their physical CD collections alive in a digital age.

MeDiA & MARKeting• Publicity campaign planned around release.

After agreeing to headline the opening night of Revelation Records’ 25th Anniversary Festival in early 2013, Texas Is The Reason will begin an exclusive North American run to support the release of a remastered discography collection featuring the band’s entire recorded output, as well as two never-released songs — their final songs ever!

January 6 Chicago, IL – house of BluesFebruary 17 Boston, MA – Paradise Rock ClubMarch 9 Atlanta, GA – MasqueradeMarch 30 hollywood, CA – The Fonda Theatre

They came from some of the most popular hardcore bands of the early ’90s (Shelter, 108, Resurrection), but by the time Texas Is The Reason formed in 1994, a new aesthetic crystallized almost instantly. Only one year later, when Revelation Records released the self-titled EP, the band was headlining tours in America and well on their way to defining a new moment in post-punk.

In April 1996, the band reinforced that initial success with their first and only album, produced by Jawbox’s J. Robbins and named after the last words that John Lennon was alleged to have heard. In the years since, SPIN, Alternative Press, and Paste would all go on to call Do You Know Who You Are? an essential ’90s album. Unfortunately, after a year of heavy promotion and touring, inner-band tension came to a head and Texas Is The Reason officially split in 1997. Its members would go on to form Jets To Brazil, New End Original, and Solea.

Since then, the band has reunited only once — for two sold-out New York City shows in 2006 — but their presence has barely waned: newer generations of bands like Spitalfield, Into It. Over It., and Transit have covered songs over the years, and vets like Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, and Armor For Sleep have all publicly cited their influence.

Meet The Gashers, a three-piece band from Nevada with deep roots in Vegas punk history; solid, dynamic chops; and some serious anger issues. Jason, Sandy, and James helped form the iconic Peccadilloes in 2003 and — after releasing four full-length CDs, playing countless sold-out shows, and building a huge, loyal following — they wanted to try something new. In 2011, the three formed The Gashers and gave a fresh new voice to everything punk is supposed to be.

Track Listing: Stuffed • Panic • Occupy • Justice • Law Is Not Order • It’s OK • Sheila • Mind Control • Family Affair • Crusty Soul • Another Crutch • The Masses • Monsters • Tool

Key Markets: Hometown: Las Vegas. Also: San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, Reno, Salt Lake City

Selling PointS• Debut CD from iconic Las Vegas all-girl punk band.• Strong social media presence; Facebook and Google ad campaigns.• Service to press, radio, and online media.• Upcoming U.S. tour in 2013.• Video for first single, “Confighted,” received over 22,000 YouTube views.• Full-page ads in Substream, NY Waste, Vegas Rox, and Razorcake.• Extensive campaign to college radio via honest Arts Alliance.• Service to national press and e-media by Speak To Be heard PR.• RIYL: Paramore, Flyleaf, Joan Jett, Lunachicks, L7, Ting Tings, Donnas.

The Dirty Panties officially formed in 2001. Heavily influenced by the DIY past of NYC punk and the raw style of the garage rock renaissance, the band created a unique, wild, and energetic sound. In July 2012, the band released their first studio album on Squidhat Records entitled I Am A Robot, which featured their debut single “Confighted,” a tune the band wrote entirely in one practice. Each song on the album has something noteworthy and distinctive to offer, and delivers an honest expression of who these girls really are.

“A nicely twisted wad for vintage punk fans.” — VEGAS SEVEN HHH

Track Listing: Confighted • Cheers • Wet • Undefeated • Take It To The Grave • Cinema Psycho • Money (That’s What I Want) • Figment Of A Girl • Overt • I Am A Robot • Get Off Your Ass • InTentCity • Pretty in Pink

Selling PointS• Recorded by Blasting Room alumnus Felipe Patino, and mixed

and mastered at the legendary studio by Andrew Berlin and Jason Livermore (Rise Against, ALL, Descendents).

• Serviced to punk & alt country radio and press. • Social media marketing campaigns.• Multiple videos for “Lover’s Leap” available on YouTube.• Ads with Punk Globe, Maximum R&R, OxZine, and Razorcake.• RIYL: Social Distortion, Rev. Horton Heat, Rise Against, Hank Williams.

Armed with an arsenal of short vignettes that peer into the seedier side of life, Reno Divorce has earned a reputation for punk storytelling at its finest. Whether on a festival stage or in a smoke-filled, gin-soaked juke joint off the beaten path, they execute their brand of OC-inspired punk meets honky-tonk blues with bravado and intensity. That’s why the band’s new full-length, Lover’s Leap, will find a home with fans of Social Distortion, Rise Against, and hank Williams. Once again, they’ve teamed up with legendary recording studio The Blasting Room, and the result is the band’s strongest record yet. Reno Divorce may very well be punk’s best-kept secret, but with the release of Lover’s Leap, they won’t be secret for long!

Track Listing: Rep to Protect • Sunsets and Corvettes • You Created a Monster • Lover’s Leap • Ill Gotten Gains • Time Flies • Stumble • I’ll Always Be Your Slave • Make Sure Your Sure • Every Second Counts • G.E.D. Sweethearts • Three Time Loser 13 • Don’t Let It Slip Away

Key Markets: Hometown: Reno. Also: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Seattle, Portland, Austin

Selling PointS• Features Laura Carter of Elf Power/Neutral Milk hotel.• U.S. tour to promote album.• Press campaign by Heather West at Western Publicity.• Advertising with Magnet and Pitchfork.• RIYL: Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, The Pogues.

Al Scorch & The Country Soul Ensemble’s Tired Ghostly Town is a highly spirited recording that touches on the agile musicianship of country/bluegrass greats like Flatt & Scruggs and Bill Monroe while also incorporating the storytelling of such great artists as Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. The record opens with the frenzied “Board Up The Windows,” whose venomous vocal delivery and breakneck pace bring to mind the Pogues at their earliest, rawest stage. Overall the arrangements and music are very stripped down, allowing the vocals and stories to take the foreground, though lovely flourishes of accordion, organ, trumpet, violin, stand-up bass, and trumpet add deeply effective and ancient-sounding color to the tunes.

“The songs that ooze out from these basements and clubs into the neighboring homes range from a sweet fiddle tune to the stomping sing-along of a gypsy song of old.” — BROOKLYN VEGAN

Track Listing: Board Up The Windows • Chicago • The Hearse Driver • Miss Rosie • Working Dream • Giant Wars and Dinosaurs • Hard Times • Movie Picture • Two Flags • Tired Ghostly Town

Key Markets: Hometown: Chicago, Also: Austin, Athens, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis.

Stevie Tombstone’s new album, Greenwood, is like a brand-new pair of jeans that are already broken in, featuring fresh lyrics with an old soul and a beautiful new take on the oldest subjects: life, love, and the pursuit of great songwriting. After a chance meeting with Roy Acuff, Stevie was certain he would always be a musician. Born in rural Georgia, he learned the ropes playing country, gospel, and blues. Rebelling against his roots, he immersed himself in the world of rock and the underground music scene of the ’80s in Atlanta but never lost the twang of his childhood. He has now released five solo albums and several music videos, produced music with his 1980s swamp rockabilly band The Tombstones, and made appearances on compilations all over the damn place.

Selling PointS• Features Sebastian Komor (Icon Of Coil, Komor Kommando).• Limited edition digipak packaging.• Press and DJ servicing by Taurant Services.• Facebook ad campaign. • Ads in Outburn. • RIYL: Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Therapy?, Filter.

From the tortured and twisted minds of songwriter/lyricist Anthony Black and maverick musical genius Sebastian Komor comes the new project Dead Musician, with a sound simultaneously fresh yet resonant with old-school industrial rock à la early Nine Inch Nails or Ministry. With haunting lyrics and anguished vocals written and performed by Black and music powerfully produced by Komor — whose name needs no introduction, as the man behind Melt, Moonitor, Komor Kommando, Zombie Girl, and one-third of Icon Of Coil — Martyrilty is a savage debut that will leave you breathless for more; a short sharp shock entirely at odds with the all-too-prevalent cookie-cutter so-called “Ibiza Industrial” currently stagnating the scene.

Track Listing: Skull • To Struggle In • Machination • The Chair • Naive • Fight • Knight • The Chair (Komor’s Hell Mix)

Key Markets: Hometown: Edmonton. Also: Denver, Los Angeles, Tampa, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Phoenix, Chicago, Houston, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia

Selling PointS• First release on Vendetta, and fifth overall.• Vocals from Lauren Krothe (Panzer AG) and Matt Fanale (Caustic).• Solid fan base; toured U.S. in 2010 with Nachtmahr.• Ads with Outburn and Facebook.• RIYL: Scooter, Apoptygma Bererk, X-Rx, Noisecontrollers, Nero.

Five Year Plan marks a significant departure for Uberbyte. As a body of work it is intended to echo the genre-spanning accessibility of classic EBM albums like United States of Mind or Spectators while connecting firmly with more recent developments in electronic music. Nevertheless, the real shock of Five Year Plan is its classic pop sensibility and willingness to take enormous risks while overspilling at the seams with rich melodies and unforgettable songs.

“A real game-changer … should quite rightly elevate them beyond genre conventions and into a class of their own.” — TERRORIZER (5/5)

KUNST, the latest offering from purveyors of the Ultra Heavy Beat KMFDM, is a bombastic musical graffiti and another indelible mark on the walls of society. Sascha, Lucia, Jules, Andy & Steve kick things off with the snarky title track, instant payoff for long-term fans and newbies alike, then delve into freakadelic mayhem, seamlessly blending their anarchic signature sound with elements of punk, industrial, and EBM.

Relentlessly pouncing headlong into tracks named “AVE MARIA,” “QUAKE,” and an eponymous tune in a show of solidarity for jailed Russian punk band PUSSY RIOT, KMFDM exposes the underbelly of society’s shortcomings. Now entering their 30th year, KMFDM is definitely “doin’ it again,” but this time around they are catching us off guard!

Two anthems, plus multiple versions of each, for a total of almost 25 exclusive minutes. Debuted on Billboard Singles Chart at #15 and Top Dance Singles Chart at #3.

Remixes from Tohuvabohu, Hau Ruck (never before available on CD), and one new track created from fan phone calls! Remixers include Combichrist and 16 Volt.

KMFDM’s eighth studio album featured the return of former band member Raymond Watts and the first appearance of journeyman drummer Bill Rieflin.

A single-disc collection of KMFDM’s best-known tracks released by Metropolis Records, home to the band for the last half-decade.

Never one to shy away from the tough questions, KMFDM gives voice to the inquiry on everyone’s lips in these twisted times with 11 brand-new songs.

The follow-up single to last year’s rousing anthem “Krank” includes three remixes of three songs, one brand-new exclusive, and the album version of “Amnesia.”

KMFDM’s seventh album features “Light,” “A Drug Against War,” “Glory,” “Sucks,” and more.

This split release between Total Life and Deceh is pressed in an edition of 500 copies and housed in screen-printed, hand-numbered jackets. Kevin Doria’s work as Total Life precedes his work as half of Growing and continues to evolve; “Fader” is no exception. Deceh’s contribution is an extended harmonic magnification of a shruti box, Hammond organ, upright double bass, and modular synthesizer. Proper full lengths from both artists will be issued via Important in 2013.

Selling PointS• Brilliant compositions by young Parisian cellist Gaspar Claus.• Features some of Japan’s most well respected artists, including

Eiko Ishibashi, Keiji haino, Kakushin Nishihara, Ryuichi Sakamoto, hirochimi Sakamoto, Sachiko M, Yoshihide Otomo, Leonard Eto, Kazutoki Umezu, and Kazuki Tomokawa.

• Deluxe limited vinyl pressing.• Promo mailing to radio and press via Important Records.

Tradition belongs more to the present than the past. For three weeks Parisian cellist and composer Gaspar Claus met with traditional and modern Japanese musicians in a Tokyo studio to record Jo Ha Kyu. Performing with Claus on this piece are: Eiko Ishibashi (voice, piano, drums), Keiji haino (voice), Kakushin Nishihara (voice, satsuma biwa), Ryuichi Sakamoto (piano), hirochimi Sakamoto (electric cello), Sachiko M (sine wave), Otomo Yoshihide (turntable), Leonard Eto (wadaiko), Kazutoki Umezu (tenor saxophone), and Kazuki Tomokawa (voice, guitar). Modern Japanese culture is colored, in part, by ancestral shades. Where other countries are willing to forget their past as they move forward, Japan values local tradition over global culture. Japanese tradition is clearly evident in the music of the Japanese avant-garde. Listening to the music of the Japanese avant-garde, one can easily detect that they belong to the great tradition of Japanese music that continues through them.

Selling PointS• New contemporary classical works from a celebrated Austrian composer.• Features the Vienna Philharmonic, one of the finest orchestras in the world,

with young percussion superstar Martin Grubinger.• Winner of Best Contemporary Album at the International Classical Music

Awards (2010).

In 2012 we celebrated the 86th birthday of Austrian composer Friedrich Cerha, best known for his orchestra cycle “Spiegel” and the completion of the third act of Alban Berg’s Lulu. This new album combines two orchestral pieces from recent years, both played by one of the finest orchestras in the world: the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Pierre Boulez and Peter Eötvös. The demanding solo part of the “Konzert for Percussion & Orchestra” is played by young percussion star Martin Grubinger.

“Electrifying soloist Martin Grubinger makes the perhaps odd idea of putting percussion in a concerto role seem violently necessary … gripping.” — PRESTO CLASSICAL

Selling PointS• New music from a young, contemporary Parisian composer.• Features a unique contrabass clarinet completely made of metal!

Yann Robin is a young contemporary music composer from Paris. The major pieces on this record, “Art of Metal I” and “Art of Metal III,” both belong to a cycle devoted to the metal contrabass clarinet. The cycle’s connecting thread is a metaphorical approach to metal as an alloy synonymous with strength, power, solidity, energy, and brilliance. The instrument itself is totally made of metal; Selmer designed a special metal mouthpiece for the piece to replace what is usually made of ebonite. “Vulcano,” a piece for ensemble, fits perfectly in the metallic soundscapes of the “Art of Metal” pieces. Inspired by ancient myths on Vulcanos and by volcanos themselves, the piece is about buried and erupting powers. Different volcanic states — from lava flows to earthquakes — stimulate the imagination and provide trajectories for what can be done with sound.

Bassist Chris Nadeau (of noise-punk band Blast & The Detergents) and wife/drummer Susan Dickson teamed up with guitarist James Bess (ex-Dumbwaiters, Insect Joy) to form Permanent Makeup in 2010. The band played their first show together without ever having practiced. The venue: a doctor’s office. Mostly improvised, with audience members reading infomercial ad copy in lieu of a singer, they called it a success, eventually writing new songs and taking over vocal duties themselves. Calling the underground punk/art scene their home, PM has spent the last two years cutting their teeth in true DIY fashion: playing house shows on self-booked tours of the U.S. and recording/releasing home-packaged EPs. With tunes informed by the decades-long thread of dissonant post-post-punk and the commercial language contained within the aforementioned ad copy, people have told the band they’ve identified elements in their sound as disparate as fuzzed-out garage-psych, author Phillip K. Dick, sci-fi surf, avant-electronic, and even pamphlets handed out on street corners by the schizophrenic homeless. “Sure, why not?” the band replies, being agreeable folk, and gets back to writing and touring.

The three of them recently realized none has a single tattoo; take away from that what you will.

After years of releasing albums and performing overseas, Mechanical Cabaret makes their long-awaited North American debut with the greatest hits collection Selective Hearing! Formed in 1999, Roi Robertson and Steve Bellamy combine a heady mix of industrial-strength electro, memorable melodies, slamming beats, acidic synths, sci-fi soundscapes, and throbbing bass, along with Roi’s lyrical observations on the darker side of life — all delivered with a deadpan dose of sardonic punk attitude and British black humor.

Mechanical Cabaret has been making records and touring for 13 years, releasing four albums and several singles. Selective Hearing provides just a glimpse of the band’s illustrious history, from “Nothing Special” off the band’s 2002 debut to the mega-club hits “See Hear Smile” and “Disbehave,” from the follow-up album Product for Your Insecurity.

The year 2009 brought Damaged Goods, Mechanical Cabaret’s breakthrough release. The duo stepped out of the clubs and into the mainstream with songs like “In Loving Memory,” “Careful Careless,” and “GBH.” Damaged Goods maintained the band’s signature analogue sounds and British dark humor, but showcased more mature in-depth songwriting. To round out this release, Mechanical Cabaret has added “Why So Serious?,” the first new track from the band since 2009. Overall, Selective Hearing is a great introduction to the North American market and a precursor to what lies ahead.

Experimenting with electronic and classical elements, this project combines floating soundscapes with electro-acoustic colors to create minimalistic soundtracks renouncing of visualization but interacting with the listeners’ emotions and feelings. As a violinist and pianist, Christoph combines synthetic sound engineering with natural sounds to communicate his short acoustic tales and impressions.

SaffronKeira is a project established in 2008 by Eugenio Caria from the island of Sardinia, Italy. With SaffronKeira, Eugenio lives out his passion of being a researcher of the possibility of expression offered by currently available technology. Indeed, in his tracks he experiments with electronics and unconventional elements, which sometimes seem meaningless at first sight but uncover their significance upon closer examination. Combining subtle and sometimes even almost invisible rhythms with textures of sound, he confidently moves between minimalistic pieces and classic ambient tracks that should please both the analytic ears and the listeners who just want to dive into the music.

Sonorous vocals matched with high-production glitched beats and caustic synths make for something completely unique, while retaining the depth and club hits that fans expect. The trio continues to evolve and develop, opening new doors and kicking them down when needed, especially if a door is stubborn or weather-warped. They are not of the shy persuasion, be it on stage or in their remixes, consciously choosing not to repeat themselves but to expand like a swelled gut over a cinched belt. Their eyes are always on the horizon, chasing a sun they will never let fall.
