KV WOODWORKERS CLUbTe KV Woodworkers Club is a non-prot organizationoperating rom Rothesay High School. Happenings: Members have been enjoying this winter inside, making projects in the shop. I see tables, stools, cabinets, entertainment centers, picture rames and benches. Tere areancy turned bowls, spurtles, and candlesticks. Te schoolstudents have begun their second semester, and the new studentsentering the Mill and Cabinet class have been learning how touse the tools and equipment saely. Tis weeks tip from Chips: StopSaw Saety - two years ago, theschool shop acquired a new table saw by StopSaw. It uses ablade breaking system that, when the spinning blade comes incontact with anything that will conduct electricity, res a smallexplosive device that drives an aluminum brake into the blade, stopping it in a millisecond. Te inertia o the spinning blade, atthe same time, is spent in drawing the blade below the suraceo the table. Tis is designed to stop the blade should humanfesh come in contact with the blade. Now, we know it works.Recently a new member was using the saw to rip some reclaimedlumber. Tere was a nail buried in the wood and when the bladecame in contact with the nail, the brake was red and the bladewas stopped and withdrawn below the table. It is reassuring to

know the saety brake works.A reminder to all- the saety brakeis activated by more than our ngers. Anything that conductselectricity will activate the brake; wet wood, nails and screwsand hopeully, ngers.About Our Club: Members may have access to the school shopacilities, 24/7. New members are welcome. Annual ees are$220. For more inormation, call Jim at 849-3794, Brian at 847-3241 or see Bob or Larry at the shop (1st door on the right romthe East side entrance to the school, across rom Rothesay arena)on uesday and Tursday, mornings and evenings, or Saturdaymornings. SCRAggLY gOA??It started last all when someone dropped by while I was nothome, called me later on in the week and said that while in mydriveway there was a scraggly looking goat hanging around. Isaid there just couldnt be a goat roaming around and didntgive it much thought. Ten a ew weeks later my Dad describedsomething he had seen, but so ar I had not laid eyes on anythingthat was as strange as the description he gave me.wo weeks ago, I was sitting in my dining room and peripherally

I saw a movement outside my patio door. Tere she was! I dobelieve she will not get any bigger and surely will always carrythe markings she has now. Tank goodness or the mild winterwe have had as I am not sure she could have survived, being sosmall.

    Its the saltwater sea shore

    Where I long to be

Whether it be in Cape Breton

Or by the Bay of Fundy

Just a-breathing that salty sea air

    In a golden afternoon sun

And walking barefoot in the sand

    Boy, couldnt I have fun

    Down through the woodland trail

The farm house getting farther away

Just down to that sandy sea shore

Why - theres nothing more to say.

    30 YEARS AND COUNINg

A ew weeks ago I realized the Hampton Herald is turning 30 inApril. Tat led to the urther realization that the Valley Viewerwill be 20 in the all. Although both magazines were already inplace when Mike and I got involved in this venture, amazingly12 o those years have been under our guidance. And to thinkit all started as a little retirement project or Helen and BertBoyd.

I have started to think about the possibility o my ownretirement, as I am now closer to sixty than y (or even y-ve!), but I keep getting stuck on what would ll my days. Terst twenty years o lie are spent learning - how to walk, how totalk, how to get along in the world, how to earn a living. Ten wespend some orty years raising amilies and working, workingand raising amilies. Busy, busy, busy. Aer the intensity o those

rst sixty years, certainly a little slow-down sounds good, but nota dead stop. Are the next thirty years perhaps an opportunity tobecome more involved in community, volunteering at charitiesand non-prots and service clubs, working to make the world(whether local or in the broader sense) a better place? Or perhapsretirement can be an opportunity to return to the learningenvironment, to pursue learning or its own sake instead oworrying whether it can get you a job/career. Universities oenhave ree tuition or those o a certain age. Maybe some part-time work?

For sure I am getting a little ahead o mysel as I anticipate atleast a couple o more years beore retiring, but one o the bigconsiderations is what will happen to Ossekeag. Who will be thenext caretaker o what Helen and Bert Boyd rst created back

in 1982? What will the next thirty years look like? And speakingo thirty . . . ime and ide wait for no man, but time alwaysstands still for a woman of thirty.~ Robert Frost. 801
