Prayer Closet
Tragedies and trou-
bles has now become a
common place in our
society. As never be-
fore in history, people
are looking outside
and above this world
for help in the midst of
their perplexities. If you know some
way by which you could obtain deliver-
ance from trouble, strength in weak-
ness, guidance in times of crisis, friend-
ship and comfort when lonely, healing
in mind and body, or peace in the midst
of confusion, success after failure and a
thousand other wonderful blessings
which would make every moment of
your life worth while. It would be won-
derful to know the what, the why, the
who and the how of that wonderful way.
Well, that way is prayer, which is the
key and the faith that unlocks the door.

Dear Dr. Hollie,
My husband works with a
group of women, and he gets
a lot of their “girl talk”. I’ve
met a few of them, and they
seem nice enough. I mean, I don’t have any
problems with any of them. But I have started
disliking some of the things that they are tell-
ing him. One in particular, I’ve noticed by
what he’s telling me, shares very graphic de-
tails of her love life. She is a single woman
and has had various partners since knowing
my husband. She tells him all her practices
and likes and dislikes. I’m not really sure why
it makes me uncomfortable, but it does. Am I
being petty?
Uncomfortable Wife
Dear Uncomfortable,
I agree with you that this conversation should
not be going on. The woman should not be
sharing her experiences, I think with anyone,
but most especially your husband. Suggest to
your husband that he removes himself from
the conversations if the woman continues. It is
very much inappropriate and not something
that he should want or need to hear.
For those that have been prom-
ising themselves that they were going
to visit with us, our Church School
hour has been moved up to 9:00 am.
The church school lesson was “Freed
from Law through Christ” Gal.3:1-14.
Paul addresses the problem pre-
sented by the Judaizes of his day
who was teaching among this Gen-
tile church that Christ was fine but they needed
to keep the Law and be circumcised in order to
be saved. Paul saw those gentile Christians who
was trying to be justified by Law as having been
“Bewitched” having a spell cast on them. Al-
though the Judaizes no longer exist there are still
many who profess to be Christians trying to be
justified by works. If works could save us then
Christ death was in vain. This idea of “working”
your way to salvationpuzzles me and cause me to
wonder how would you know when you have
done enough work to earn salvation. We are the
children of Abraham who believed God and his
faith was counted as righteousness. Aren’t you
glad to know that we are saved by grace through
faith and that not of ourselves but the gift of God
least any man could boast? The Morning message
was delivered by Pastor L.T.Morgan from the sub-
ject “The transformation of Jacob from the sup-
planter to Israel, the prince of God” Gen.25:20-
26. Jacob came into the world struggling with his
twin brother Esau, but at birth God pronounced a
reversal of tradition which was younger the older
brother would become the head of the family at
the death of the father. God said here that the
older would serve the younger. Jacob’s life was
full of good and bad and it would seem that God
could never use a man like this, “But God”
showed his power to transform this supplanter

The Inspirational Calvary Singers of Dallas,
Texas is one of the most beloved female groups
throughout the DFW Metroplex. This powerful
soul-stirring group was organized 27 years ago,
by founder and manager Evangelist Dorothy
Lomax-Johnson of Texarkana, Texas. There
have been many good singers to have come out
of this group over a period of time. While the
group has experienced tumultuous times, finally
leaving the manager all alone, she held fast to
prayer & faith until May of 2007, God answered
her prayer as 4 seasoned, Holy Ghost-filled sis-
ters joined the group, bringing about a “New”
yet old school sound, that even the younger wor-
shippers seem to enjoy … The Calvary Singers!
In 2008, a partial CD produced by Dallas’ own
renowned singer/songwriter, Minister Timothy
Garner had given this group a place in their
hearts & households of many. Thanks to a few
of our local radio stations like “KNON, KKDA
& KGGR. The inspirational Calvary Singers,
invites you, the public to their annual “Love
Musical” on Saturday February 18, 2012 at

It’s down
to the time of year
that most people
think they are bet-
ter at than they are
their chosen pro-
fession. That’s the
general manager of
a football team.
Let’s build the Dallas Cowboys into
a winning team. Let’s start with the
defense. Most people think and rightly
so that they need big time help on the
back end, Corners and Safeties. Some
think they need to improve the league
worst pass rush. I think both are cor-
rect.
Lets look at the secondary
first. Terrence Neuman should be out
of here. Mike Jenkins and Orlando
Scandrich could be salvageable.
I think Bill Parcel ruined Terrence
Neuman when they first drafted him.
Parcel in his attempt to show his
power, had Terrence bring him water
on every break. He broke him down
mentally. The greatest asset a defen-
sive back has is his confidence and
mental toughness. Parcel took that his
rookie year, bringing the coach water,
can you visualize Deion Sanders,
Charles Woodson, or Mel Blount run-
ning to get coaches water. I take away
your pride and mental toughness now
I say go cover Randy Moss, not going
to happen. You treat corners like
Drew Bundinni Brown did Muham-
mid Ali you tell him he’s the greatest.
What the mind can conceive the body
will achieve.
Mike Jenkins and Scandrich was
denied a training camp as was the rest
of the league. The teams with new
coaches didn’t have the opportunity to
put their programs in and the Cow-
boys brought in a new defensive coor-
dinator. How did Houston pick up
Wade Phillips System you ask. Hous-
ton had a much bet
ter pass rush than Dallas. DeMarcus
Ware had 19 sacks the rest of the team
had 22 total. Ware was the only player
in league history to have that many of
his teams sacks. I’m not a big Ware
fan because I think he could be a 30
sack linebacker. To much is given
much is expected.
Ware does need help from the other
side. Anthony Spencer and Victor
Butler are the responsible parties, both
are free agents. I think Spencer gets a
bad rap. He’s only had 11sacks in his
last two years. Here is a nugget to
remember, Spencer had more tackle
than Ware. He’s a better run stopper
than Ware. Victor Butler very seldom
gets the chance to show his stuff.
I think if the Cowboys get a durable
nose guard and put Jay Ratliff at de-
fensive end a lot of their problems will
be solved up front.
Lets look inside Sean Lee will be
okay, but Brady James can be re-
placed by anything that can tackle or
make someone trip. A banana peel,
cardboard box, or tall grass anything
that would trip a ball carrier or make
him change his route. Think Brady
James is undercover police That’s the
only reason I can thinkof him still
being here. That could be who busted
Mr. Hurd.
Then there’s the safeties an improve
pass rush could help the safeties and
corners, playing with your eyes open
wouldn’t hurt either!!!!
Barber Shop Talk With Leon Celebrating 52 years of Community Service
Welcome to the weekend, baaaby! This Friday morning, my heart is heavy at the loss of my dear friend and Elite News publisher Jordan Blair. When I began writing this column almost 9 years ago, it was a lark to get me in touch with our community. It was designed as a "connector" for my local radio broadcast on 94.5 KSOUL, now Oldies 94.5.... I wanted to do it once a month, but Jordan sug-gested strongly that I write each week. If you knew Jordan, you know he could be persuasive...So write I did! When i left 94.5 and moved to National Network Radio in 2006, others wanted to take over my column, claiming they could do what I did. Jordan told them NO and showed his loyalty by sticking with me. Over the years we became family, he the brother I never had. I've had various offers to move my column in the past decade, but showed my loyalty to Jordan, as he showed his to me. I remember our last lunch at Corey Toney's CT Real Deal barbecue
restaurant several months ago. We talked about me selling ad-vertising for my column and he
had that twinkle in his eye, the one he would get when he thought something was a good idea, lol!!! I got on Jordan, who was looking good, about eating all that pork, he just laughed! God Bless and R.I.P. Jordan Blair, "I Will Always LOVE You"... Before today, I'd been re-flecting on the loss of Whitney Houston...I thought back to the 1st time I saw her live, It was a concert in Houston, about 1987 or 88...She was young and enthusiastic, not eaten up by the excesses so prevalent in this business. At press time, her funeral had been sched-uled for Saturday at Noon from New Hope Baptist, her childhood church in Newark New Jersey. Rev. Marvin Winans will deliver the eulogy. The family rejected a pub-lic Michael Jackson type send off. Rumours had been flying that Fri-day would see a service at New-ark's 19,000 seat Prudential Cen-ter. Reports said that Whitney's mom Cissy Houston and cousin Dionne Warwicke wanted the fu-neral held in Atlanta, because
that's where Whitney enjoyed life the most, but the rest of the family reportedly pressured them into a hometown funeral. Meanwhile Sony Records has apologized for trying to cash in by raising the price of Houston CD's... Gone at 48, R.I.P. Whitney, gone to soon! I wonder what type of tributes will be paid to Whitney at tonight's Old School 94.5 Love Train concert...I know Chaka Khan, the O'Jays and a ton of other acts and artists will set it off and also remember one of our greatest artists. I am looking forward to hearing some of th tal-ent live for the 1st time, like Peabo Bryson and The Ohio Play-ers...Take Friday off or at least the afternoon...Pamper your-self,lol...The show starts at 6p from the American Airlines Center. This is a true music weekend, as Toni Braxton graces the stage Saturday Night at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville Oklahoma. Hope my money does not run out, as our World Champion Dallas Mavericks host the Boston Celtics Monday and The "WE ALREADY BEAT L.A." Lakers and Kobe Bryant Wednesday! Looks like former Dal-
las resident and now national cor-respondent/talking head Roland Martin may be back from his sus-pension at CNN soon! Hopefully the bombardment of emails asking me to "rally" at Cnn.com in Row-lands defense will cease. I got what seemed like a hundred in one day...Martin was suspended for for saying he'd smack the "ish" out of any male fans of the David Beckham undies commercial, where Beckham is almost naked. Gay rights groups took issue with that statement. Rowland's "kissed" and made up with the G/L/T com-munity since then, offering apolo-gies and insisting he was not trying to stir up violence against them. Happy Birthday to YOU and Celebs this week:James Earl Jones is 81, Bill Russell 78, Jim Brown 76, Jerry Springer 68, Ar-senio Hall 57,Levar Burton 55, Ice-T 54, Michael Jordan 49 and Dr. Dre is 44!
