The KeySteel SQ FT MSE Wall System is a high performance retaining wall system designed specifically for use in transportation and tall walls with high load applications. This system has been used extensively for structures supporting railroads, multi-story buildings, bridge approach and abutments, and mining applications. The KeySteel SQ FT MSE Wall System has been evaluated by HITEC (CERF report #40478) and found to be in accordance with the high standards of the AASHTO bridge specification manual. The system utilizes the Keystone KeySteel SQ FT unit and inextensible KeyStrip soil reinforcement. This system is also known as KeySystem I in some markets.
Unit Dimensions: 8"h x 18"w x 12"d (200mm x 455mm x 305 mm)
Unit Weights: 90 - 95 lbs (41 - 43 kg)
Units/sq.ft.: 1
Pin Specifications: ½" x 5¼" Fiberglass Pins (12.7mm x 134mm) 9⁄16" x 8" Steel Pins (14.3mm x 200mm)
Tri-plane
Straight Split
Ideal Applications
• River & flood walls
• Bridge abutments
• Rail transporations
• Roadway support
• Headwalls & wingwalls
Maximum Versatility and Performance
• Allows for various positive connections with reinforcement to build engineered walls in excess of 60 feet (18m) tall.
• Increases vertical drainage through face units.
• Higher unit-to-unit shear resistance.
• Open cores allow for gravel interlock across block interfaces.
Cost-Effective Results
• Comparable cost-effectiveness of segmental retaining walls (SRW) with the strength and reliability of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls.
• Wall deflections of KeySteel SQ. FT. walls are 3x less than geosynthetic reinforced walls.
• Design life of 75 years for typical structures, and up to 100 years for critical structures.
