SAMPLE PROJECT:Vinyl Product Production

OVERVIEW:

CONTENT:

Creating vinyl products is a popular and cost effective application for manufac-turing products in a graphic design course. After students create a design in vector software (Illustrator or boxy SVG), students can use a vinyl cutter to pro-duce custom stickers, magnets, t-shirts, hats, and more.

• Graphic Design• Vector vs Raster Images• Manufacturing Technology• Fashion

• Adobe Illustratoror Boxy SVG• Windows, Mac, or Chromebook• CNC Vinyl Cutter• T-Shirt Press• Adhesive Vinyl • Heat Transfer Vinyl• Oval Magnet Blanks

RESOURCES:

SAMPLE PROJECT:Conductivity Exploration

OVERVIEW:

CONTENT:

Using a basic Scratch program that illu-minates an on screen LED when a signal is recieved from a Makey Makey, stu-dents can analyze if materials and ob-jects are conductors or insulators. Stu-dents can first create predictions of the materials, then hands-on test their pre-dictions using the conductometer program.

• Scratch• Makey Makey• Alligator wires• Windows, Mac, or Chrombook• A range of conductive and non conductive materials

RESOURCES:

SAMPLE PROJECT:Game Controller Design

OVERVIEW:

CONTENT:

In order to provide a hands-on construc-tion project in a computer programming course, students designed a controller that fit the theme of thier game. Con-trollers were contructed with a range of materials and connected to a computer using a makey makey. The games were developed in scratch or processing de-pending on the age of the students.

Make and Take a Decal!PROJECT BRIEF:

PROCEDURES:

We have designed a few vector images and produced decals of them using a vinyl cutter. Using basic tools such as tweezers and squeegees, feel free to make and keep a decal!

STEP 1: After selecting your decal, use the tweezers to pull up extra vinyl from a corner.

STEP 2: Continue to peel away excess material. Be certain not to lift the final design. Remember, LOW AND SLOW when peeling excess material.

STEP 3: Evenly apply transfer tape over the decal using a squeegee. Trim excess tape with scissors.

STEP 4: When ready to apply, lift the decal using the transfer tape and smoothly apply it to a surface using a flat-edge object.

Instructions:

Remember:

Using The Conduct-O-Meter 3000, determine whether the supplied objects are conductors or insulators. If an object

is an conductor, the conduct-o-meter 3000 will illuminate a light on your screen that’s color matches wire you have

chosen to use. You must use a color wire (positive) and a black wire (negative) to test the flow of electrons.

Conductors are objects that allow for the flow of electrons.

Insulators are objects that prohibit the flow of electrons.

Record:1. Which objects were conductors and which were insulators?2. Were there any objects that were both conductors and insulators? Why?3. Were any of your predictions correct?
