Feathercraft Outrigger Sail Rig for Feathercraft Double Kayaks
• These instructions show how to mount the Batwing and Sabani sail rigs on the K2 Expedition and Klondike models.
• Unit shown features the Gunwale Attachment bars, Mast, Main Sail, Akas, Amas, and Lee Boards (standard), the Jib Sail (optional) and the Spinnaker (optional).

Mounting Sail Rig on Feathercraft K-2• See last page for Klondike
Gunwale Bars
• Install Gunwale Support Bars• Slide long tube through webbing beside
bow cockpit (left arrow) and then through webbing at rear of forward cockpit (right arrow). If the web loop is too tight, remove perimeter cord from web loop.
• Slide short tube through webbing loop forward of stern cockpit (arrow) and then join with first tube.

• Install Mast Support Bar
• Slide Tube through mast deck bracket onto mast step mounted on keel bars.
• Depress spring button.
• Install Mast Mount and Aka Mount
• Slide Mast Mount (tube with 4 aluminum cleats) through large black plastic block on Aka Mount.
• Then slide assembly over Mast Support Bar. Depress spring button.

• Attach 4 Struts to gunwales
Strut
Attach Web Strap with roller cleat between gunwales. Thread buckle. (See Threading Scuba Tank buckle)
Web Strap
. Install Lee Boards
Air foil shape, wide edge faces forward.
Tighten clamp until lee board can be rotated and stay in any position.

Threading Scuba Tank Buckle: Thread 2” webbing through buckle as shown in top left and top right. Pull webbing taut and hold with thumb (top right). Feed web through top of
buckle (bottom left) and then pull buckle down to tighten. Webbing is actually black.

Installing Amas: top left: Pour about 250 ml (one cup) ballast water. Top right: Remove one black ring from aka. Slide second ring past spring button. Slide aka
tube through ama. Bottom left: Re-install both black rings. Bottom Right: Each ama has 2 air chambers. Pump about 20 full strokes into both chambers. Caution: do not overfill, vent if
temperature increases.

• Install Akas and Sail
• Install Bridle

• Install Mast, Raise Sail
• Cleat halyard to cleat at side of mast.
• Push down boom and cleat Down Haul.• (vertical arrow)
• Then push out Out haul and cleat.
• Cleat Vang (Diagonal arrow)
• Haul in Vang for sailing upwind.• Let out Vang for sailing downwind.
• Feed Sheet through roller cleat
• Cleat faces aft. Tie knot on end of sheet.

• Installing Sabani Sail
• Place Sail over Mast Mount
• Install Mast
• Raise Sail
• Pull sail down and cleat Down Haul

Attach rope cleat
Rope cleat teeth forward
Attach sheet (control line) and connect to sail
Rope cleat: teeth face forward

• Stowing Sail on Mast
• Lower Sail and cleat Halyard.
• Uncleat Vang and Out Haul.
• Raise up aft end of boom and tie around mast.
• Attach Sail Cover around mast and sail.

Raising The Jib: Top Left: Attach Bow Loop to Bow. Attach other end aft of cockpit. Top Right: Tie Cord Cleat beside Cockpit (white arrow). Bottom Left: Tie a Cord Cleat on both sides
of aft deck. All cleats: teeth face aft. Bottom Right. Feed one sheet tied on to Clew of sail to star. side of kayak, and the other sheet to port side. Tie aft of stern Rope Cleats. Attach Tack of sail (marked T) to carbine hook on Bow Loop. Haul forward and cleat. (white arrow) Attach Head
of Sail (H) to Halyard on Mast and raise Jib.

Caution: Only raise Jib in moderate winds: about 10 knots or less. The force of the wind acts only on the top of the mast, causing it to bend. (The force of the wind is evenly distributed on the Main Sail).
This can happen with too much wind

Spinnaker
Use in light winds.(about 10 knots or
less).
Attach Head of sail to Halyard and raise.

• Installing Sail rig on Klondike
• Slide long Gunwale Bar forward through web loop (left arrow). Then slide aft through web.
• Slide short Gunwale Bar aft through web (right arrow). Then join with long bar. Depress spring button.
• Attach Mast Mount, Aka Mount, Struts, and Cross Deck Strap with Roller Cleat in the same way as for the K2.
• Setting up the Mast and Sails are done in the same way as with the K2 Expedition.
