FEAR HAS MANY FORMS

Fear is one of the greatest things that Satan uses to try to defeat people. In fact,

Satan was the first terrorist !en. 3:"#$. Fear %ecomes sinful when it &eeps a

 person from doing !od's will. It can come in many forms such as fear of failure,

fear of re(ection, or fear of punishment.

For e)ample, put yourself in the place of one of the soldiers in the army of 

Israel who was challenged %y !oliath, the champion of the *hilistine army. +he

giant was at least nine feet tall, fully armed, and an e)perienced warrior. +wice a

day for # days he challenged -ing Saul and his army to choose one person to

fight him instead of the whole armies of %oth sides fighting. If !oliath won, all of 

Israel would %e &illed or enslaed, and if he lost, then the same thing would happen

to the *hilistines.

DECISION TO FIGHT

First of all, you would hae to decide whether you would fight !oliath

yourself. /ut it would %e pretty o%ious that you wouldn't stand a chance against a

 %igger and stronger opponent. +he same would %e true of eery other soldier. 0s

the impossi%ility of the situation %ecomes more and more eident, you %ecome

more and more scared. +here is a lot at sta&e. 1ou are not (ust thin&ing of yourself.

2hat would happen to your spouse, children, relaties, and friends 1ou cannot

imagine them %eing %eaten, imprisoned, enslaed, or &illed. +hat would %e

horrifying. +he same things would happen to the entire nation of Israel. 1ou een

hae nightmares a%out how %ad it would %e.

HELPLESS AND HOPELESS

So eery time !oliath comes out to defy you, your army, and your !od, you

 panic, and not &nowing of anything %etter to do, you run and hide to escape the

shame, disgrace, and em%arrassment. 1ou cannot do anything to stop it or een

slow it down. 1ou can do nothing to ma&e things %etter, or een ma&e a difference.

1ou feel utterly helpless, and the situation loo&s hopeless.

1ou are continually hoping against hope Rom. :"8$, calling on !od 4er.

33:3$, and as&ing, see&ing, and &noc&ing 5att. 7:76""$. /ut instead of things

getting %etter, they are getting worse. 1ou &now that !od cares een more than you

do I *et. :7$, and that e is wor&ing Rom. 8:98$ een though you cannot see any

results. /ut it has %een # days, which seem more li&e # wee&s, or # months, or 

een # years, and you cannot see or feel a thing. It appears that the ineita%le is

a%out to happen.

WHO CHOSE HIM?

an you imagine this and what the other soldiers felt one day when a young

shepherd went out to fight !oliath Some pro%a%ly wondered who ;aid was and

<uestioned his a%ility to fight. 2ho chose him to fight on the %attlefield and

determine the fate of all of Israel e certainly did not loo& <ualified. 0gain it

appeared that all was lost.

So imagine eeryone's surprise when ;aid completely annihilated !oliath.

0nd, een though they had nothing to do with the ictory, all of the soldiers of 

Israel came out of hiding and chased the *hilistines to total defeat.

VICTORY IN CHRIST

Is this not a picture of what our Son of ;aid did on the ross e totally

defeated the world, the flesh, and the ;eil and has allowed us to %e inoled in

and hae all the %enefits of is ictory.

So, when we face things that are %igger than we are and appear to %eimpossi%le, instead of %eing afraid, we need to remem%er that, in hrist, we are
