take any modules in a given study block or take one module rather than two, subject to the requirement that you complete the Foundation Degree within a maximum period of five years.

Most of the modules on the award are studied via distance learning using our virtual learning environment called Blackboard.

The study materials available to you will vary enormously and will range from lecture/reading material to test exercises during which you are able to perform tasks which assess your understanding of the elements that have been taught. Practical exercises on networking kit via remote access will be completed where relevant. You will also have support from fellow students via electronic discussion forums. You will learn all about how this works during induction to the award. We will expect you to be proactive and take responsibility for following the programme of study.

You will be encouraged to undertake independent learning to extend the material presented.

How will I be assessed? All modules are individually assessed via one or more methods dependent upon the requirements of that module. The method of assessment is chosen to ensure that we can verify that you have met the learning outcomes of the module. These methods may include individual coursework assignments, written reports, discussion contributions and practical exercises.

Typically, assignment submission and feedback will be via Blackboard. Practical assessments may be done on-line but sometimes may involve attendance at the University. Module results will also be made available electronically.

What resources will be available to me during my studies? For the Cisco networking modules, you will also have access to our Networking Laboratories and networking kit via the Net Lab system, which allows 24 hours a day / 7 days per week access to the networking kit (except wireless kit).

In addition to the module material and Blackboard VLE support, you will have access to the various online library facilities. Staffordshire University has subscriptions to electronic book services which offer full electronic access to many textbooks, journals and conference proceedings, software support services, and even to some software provided by the university. You will be able to access these resources remotely. In addition you have the ability to use the library resourcesof up to 3 other universities near to your home or base locations.

You can also register onto the Cisco Network Academy Programme to have access to Cisco online learning materials.

When can I begin my studies? We normally have intakes in January, May and September of each year.

How long does it take? This will depend upon how much of your training has been accredited.

If you were to be awarded the maximum accreditation available for your ITC trade training, you could complete the Foundation Degree in as little as 12 months.

Assuming no accreditation, it will take you approximately 18 months to complete the BSc (Hons) ITC Top Up.
