Renella growing their experienced team of professional stylistsRenella and their Academy Tommy Atkins have been working very hard to build a successful and lasting commitment to growing and expanding with the best quality training it can provide.

We have moved into providing qualifi cations with 3 local schools and are now progressing onto further education with them and then looking to employment, thus giving this young generation a fantastic chance to gain employment and they will be more than qualifi ed to do this.

Along with the academy we have also been growing our hair team at Renella, we have just recruited 3 new faces to the team and would like to take this opportunity to welcome them to our family.

Renella welcome Ian, Megan and Allyson. Ian has a vast experience of education, working with some of Scotland’s top academies and having his own salon prior to career change. Megan is a young lady looking to drive forward her career and we can certainly help her do this, Allyson is starting with Renella after a successful business but wants to come into a fold and be a part of a team again and we welcome that. This won’t stop here either we are already looking to take on new students and a receptionist plus going back into fi nd more enthusiastic and hardworking individuals that want to be a part of a growing team and salon committed to build on customer service and experience for the client.

We are also at the start of providing refresher courses for individuals that want to either get back into hairdressing or a change in job place, this course will be a 3 month course impacting on core services such as cutting and colouring. If anyone wants more info on any of our courses call us on 0132462215 and speak to Ross.

Helping you to Better Health and WellbeingTraditional Chinese Medicine. A proven alternative health care system of medicine.

A system that treats you as an individual on an individual basis.

A holistic system that addresses the root cause of your illness as well as relieving the symptoms.A safe, eff ective therapy for infants, adults and the elderly.

A system that uses only natural remedies.

A preventative health care system.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes traditional Chinese acupuncture, herbal medicine,Tui na massage, cupping and moxibustion.

Acupuncture is the insertion of fi ne needles into the body at specifi c points shown as eff ective

in the treatment of health problems. This sophisticated system of medicine regulates the fl ow of Qi through the body in the meridians and organs, removes blockages, strengthens the body’s protective Qi and lessens the virulence of excesses. Once this is achieved, the balance of Yin and Yang is restored and the body returns to a state of health. The needles used in acupuncture are so fi ne that the prick as it goes through the skin is barely felt by the patient.

Tui Na massage work to improve blood circulation, reduce the displacement of joints, enhance joint mobility, heal soft tissue injuries, improve the function of internal organs, regulate the nerves and fl ush cellular tissues.

At The Chinese Healing Room you will be treated in a professional and courteous manner with absolute discression. Your comfort is our priority.

Is TrustyProfessionals like

TrustyTrades?Yes. It's based on the same model and it's run by me from my home in Grangemouth.

What kind of businesses do

you have listed?A large selection of professional businesses - from accountants and Insurance Brokers, to Mortgage Advisers and Physios. Some of the listed businesses will serve other small businesses (eg business training) and others will serve the public (architects, will writers and funeral directors - lots more to follow)

Word of Mouth on the Web

When did you start

TrustyProfessionals?I've been working on it for almost a year, researching what the businesses do and how I can make this work for them as well as for the site users.

Will you charge people to

use the website? No. Like TrustyTrades, it's completely free to use. The listed businesses will pay for their listings.

Will you monitor them like

TrustyTrades?Yes - I'll be checking all customer feedback to make sure that standards are always met.

STIRLING SMITH ART GALLERY AND MUSEUMThe Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum is one of the area’s hidden cultural gems. With free admission, free parking, a coff ee shop, constantly changing temporary exhibitions and the permanent “Stirling Story”, the Stirling Smith has something for everybody.

The “Stirling Story” is a permanent exhibition and on display you’ll see items connected with Stirling’s past. There are some surprising items and fascinating stories, all backing up the museum’s claim that “you don’t know Stirling until you know the Stirling Smith”.

Perhaps the most surprising item is that the Stirling Smith has the world’s oldest football on display. Found high in the rafters of the roof of the Queen’s Chamber in Stirling Castle, the ball was kicked there sometime before the roof was fi nished in the 1540s and uncovered during renovation work in the 1970s. FIFA recently made a replica of the ball to display at their headquarters in Zurich, but the original is always on display in Stirling.

The Stirling Smith is also home to the world’s oldest curling stone. Made of black basalt and weighing 26 pounds, it is inscribed with the year 1511 and was found in the Milton Bog near Bannockburn where is was undoubtedly lost during a game half a millennium ago!

We often hear about people being awarded the keys to a city, but the original key to Stirling is on display at the Stirling Smith. In 1746 Bonnie Prince Charlie wrote to the town council to say that he would be at the main entrance in the town walls at exactly 2pm on the 6th January 1746 and that if he wasn’t allowed in, he would lay siege to the town and probably destroy much of it. When he arrived, the Provost was waiting and presented the Prince with the key to the town. The Jacobites were in Stirling until chased out by government forces on 2nd February 1746.

A more gruesome display is an executioner’s cloak and axe from 1820. Twenty two radical weavers were caught attempting to start a revolution against the government. Twenty of them were transported to Australia, but leaders John Baird and Andrew Hardie were used as a warning to others and given the same sentence as William Wallace in 1305 – to be “drawn on a hurdle to the place of execution and there hung by the neck until you are dead, and afterwards, your head be severed from your body, and your body divided into four quarters to be disposed of as his majesty may direct”.

The Stirling Smith is home to the “Neish Pewter Collection”, one of the fi nest collections of British Pewter anywhere in the world. Before the introduction of mass produced pottery in the 18th Century, pewter (an alloy of tin, lead and

10 celebrities were paired with ten of Scotland’s fi nest silversmiths, with each pair collaborating on the design of a piece of silver on the theme “a drink with a close friend”. Their creations, a

variety of drinking vessels ranging from absinthe goblets to teapots and claret jugs, will be on display at the Stirling Smith. Along with the museum and gallery space, the Smith has a Lecture Theatre available for hire and popular with local groups and organisations giving presentations. The entire building is available to hire for events and conferences outside of normal opening hours. Or if you simply want a catch up with friends, the coff ee shop serves a variety of drinks and light snacks.

The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum has been Stirling’s cultural heart since it opened in 1874, from funds bequeathed by artist Thomas Smith. Many of his works are on display at the museum, along with paintings from a variety of diff erent artists including Sir Henry Raeburn

and the “Glasgow Boys” James Paterson.

The museum sits in two acres of grounds, with much of it laid out as a garden. There are

copper) was the preferred substance for making everything from Roman serving dishes to church alter pieces and even common drinking vessels and household utensils.

The Neish collection is the inspiration for an exhibition at the Stirling Smith from 14th March to 26th April. The talented textile artists from the Turning Point Group have created two new collections called “Pewter” and “Elements”. Along with the pewter themed work, this acclaimed local group will be exhibiting fi ve other collections, including “Poppies”, their tribute to those who have died in the First and Second World Wars.

The Stirling Smith has a constantly changing programme of temporary exhibitions. Two of the highlights for 2015 are “The Battle for Polmaise” and The “Silver of the Stars”. The Battle for Polmaise marks the 30th anniversary of the miners’ strike in Scotland and will tell the story of the strike, the colliery at Polmaise and the many miners who worked there from 1904 until it closed in 1987. The exhibition runs from 6th March until 12th July. From 9th October to 29th November, you can see the “Silver of the Stars”. For this exhibition

picnic benches, a willow tunnel, a storytelling circle, a giant chess and draughts board, a giant caterpillar sculpture, a mini labyrinth and a fun woodland walk. There are lots of colourful mosaics in the garden, made by local artists and children from Stirling’s primary schools.

The museum is a free attraction, which means it needs to raise funds to stay open. You can help by becoming a “Friend of the Smith”, costing just £12 a year. Businesses can help

through sponsorship, with match funding of donations available to the Stirling Smith through a government funded programme called “Arts and Business”.

If you would like to fi nd out more about the Stirling Smith, you can visit their website at www.stirlingsmithartgalleryandmusuem.co.uk. The Stirling Smith is at Dumbarton Road, Stirling, FK8 2RQ and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.30am to 5pm and Sundays 2pm to 5pm.
