SAFETY DATA SHEET1 - IDENTIFICATION OF THE PREPARATION AND OF THE COMPANY

    IDENTIFICATION OF THE PREPARATION

PASSIVATEUR N2 or FINISH AC (code 10033)CADMIUM / ZINC PASSIVATING (code: DSF 8010)

USE OF THE PREPARATIONThis solution has been specially formulated to passivate electroplated cadmium or zinc (ZINGAGE N solution). This treatment increases the corrosion resistance thanks to the growth of a layer of chromates at the surface. It is applied at room temperature by soaking the part for 8 to 12 s or locally by damping the metal with a piece of cottonwool for 25 to 30 s, just where it is necessary. The stored and used quantities of solution are therefore small.COMPANY IDENTIFICATIONDALIC - ZI de Plagu - 41, rue des Eaux - B.P. 90139 - 35501 VITRE CEDEX, FRANCEManufacturer and Seller, tel.: (33) 2.99.75.36.99, fax: (33) 2.99.74.49.31.For information: [email protected], tel.: (33) 2.99.75.53.88.

CHEMICAL NATURE Aqueous acidic preparation containing in particular sodium dichromate.PRODUCT CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO 1999/45/EC and 67/548/ECSymbols: T+, N, risks phrases: R 45-46-60-61-22-26-34-42/43-48/23-51/53MAIN HAZARDS

Adverse physicochemical effects- Fire or explosion: this product is not classified as flammable or explosive but it can favour the combustion of othermatters if it is present in large quantities especially in the dehydrated state.

Adverse effects on health According to the available data, this preparation is:

corrosive (may cause burns), allergenic by inhalation and by contact with skin, very toxic by inhalation and toxic by prolonged exposure, harmful if swallowed.

It contains a carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction agent of the 2 nd category (unproved effects on man butthere is sufficient evidence to provide a strong presumption that human exposure to it may result in such effects): ifprotective measures are not taken, the risk of a cancer development can thus be increased as well as the risk ofhereditary genetic changes. Loss of fertility and development retardations of the child may be also possible both beforeand after birth.Effects on the environmentThis preparation is classified as TOXIC to the aquatic environment.Refer also to the paragraphs 11, 13 and 15.

SPECIFIC HAZARDSCan react with easily oxidizable/combustible materials.Decomposition begins at about 400C by releasing oxygen.Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or earth.

PROTECTION OF THE FIRE-FIGHTERSBecause of the substances produced during thermal decomposition, use approved self-contained breathing equipmentand protective clothing in case of intervention.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________

9 - PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

    - Appearance: orange-coloured liquid.- Odour: odourless.- pH: < 1.- Relative density: 1.13.- Solubility: miscible in water in all proportions.- Boiling point: approximately 100C.- Crystallisation / melting point: - 4C.- Flammability: nil.- Oxidising properties, risk of explosion or fire: risk in case of thermal decomposition or by contact with easily

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________

    10 - STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

STABILITYGood at room temperature with water evaporation for only risk.Good in humidity and light.

CONDITIONS TO AVOIDHigh temperatures: sodium dichromate decomposition begins at about 400C, the one of sulphuric acid is practicallycomplete at 450C.

MATERIALS TO AVOIDThe basic products, the reducers and combustible matters, the organic products, oils and greases. Incompatible withhydroxylamine, hydrazine

HAZARDOUS THERMAL DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTSToxic and pungent fumes: emission notably of oxygen, chromium oxides, chromate, sodium oxide and sulfur oxides.

    11 - TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

No data are available regarding the preparation. The evaluation of health hazards has been realised thanks todir ectives 67/548/EC, 1999/45/EC and bi bliograph ical data.

METABOLISMChromium VI derivatives are absorbed by the alimentary tract. Chromium VI is reduced in Chromium III in the intestine. The penetration by pulmonary way is also important. Chromium VI can pass the skin. The accumulation occurs in all organs, in particular in the lungs. Chromium is essentially eliminated via the kidneys (80%of the dose).

An urinary elimination of chromium from 40 to 50 g / L of urine or of 30 g/g of creatinine in a sample collected at theend of day seems to correspond to a middle exposure of 0.05 mg of chromium / m 3 during the day.

SKINMay cause caustic damage in case of contact, necroses and digestive and renal problems. May also cause on somesensitive people recurring ulcerations which can persist several months in case of repeated contacts.

EYE MUCOSAMay cause severe burns in case of contact.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEMVery toxic by inhalation. Danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure. May also cause sensitisation byinhalation (asthma, rhinitis).

IN CASE OF INGESTIONHarmful. May cause caustic damage, liver and kidney attacks and cardiovascular problems.

According to studies on animals, this preparation is suspected to cause on man cancer, hereditary genetic changes, lossof fertility and undesirable effects upon the unborn child (agent of the 2nd class).

OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES: tables n10, 10a (in FRANCE). ________________________________________________________________________________________________

    12 - ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

There are no ecological data on the preparation.Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or earth .In general, a pH lower than 5 is fatal. The toxicity tends to increase with the decrease of water hardness and the increase of temperature.

    ECOTOXICITYBibliographic data concerning sodium dichromate:LC50: 96 h, 69 mg Cr /L (trout, salmo gairdneri)EC50 : 24 h, 1.4 mg Cr /L (Daphnia magna)Bibliographic data concerning sulphuric acid (at 94-98 %):FISH-LC50 (24 h) = 82 mg/L, DAPHNIA-EC50 (24 h) = 29 mg/L.

DEGRADABILITY: Chromium VI in water can be reduced in Chromium III by organic matters in water; Chromium III willsettle in the sediments.

BIOACCUMULATIVE POTENTIAL: the bioaccumulation of chromium in soil and on the plants in surface is unlikely.Chromium is found in many organisms living in soft water and accumulates moderately. There is no indication of thebiologic increase of the chromium concentration along the food chain (earth, plant and animal). Sulphuric acid has a lowpotential of bioaccumulation.

According to directive 67/548/EC, the concentration of chromate ions is sufficient to classify this preparation with the Nsymbol Dangerous for the environment and the R51-53 phrase.

13 - DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS This product and water used for rinsing must not be thrown away notably because of their acidity and content inchromium. They must be processed within the firm or destroyed by an approved organization.Contaminated packaging if not re-used with the same product is also special waste to be sent to an approvedorganization for recycling or disposal.Classification according to the commission directive 2000/532/EC of 3 May 2000 and its modifications (in particular2001/118/EC, OJ L47). Use the mandatory documents to follow-up the waste products.
