Become a Foster Parent

Boys & Girls Aid

Short-term stability makes a long term difference

Boys & Girls Aid takes fostering to heart

Our dedicated, professional staff

partners closely with our foster

parents, youth and the community to

help children and families succeed.

As Oregon’s most experienced child

welfare agency, we know how to

support families and children in our

community.

Stepping up to make a difference

Boys & Girls Aid connects youth in need

with prepared, caring and safe adults.

When a youth cannot stay at home, a

secure and supportive foster family can

mean the difference between stability

and chaos in a young person’s life. Our

foster parents care for youth at a critical

time during their development.

The biggest reward is knowing I’ve provided these kids a time and place of safety, peace, and unconditional love that might help them take their next step.

—Boys & Girls Aid Foster Parent

What does it take to be a foster parent?Boys & Girls Aid welcomes dependable and committed foster parents. Our foster parents may be single, partnered or married, live in an apartment or house and work in or outside of the home.

Foster parents must also demonstrate financial stability and may be required to transport youth to school or appointments. Homes are required to have a separate bedroom for the youth in foster care.

Who are the youth?Regardless of their circumstances, all youth in foster care share the immediate need for shelter, support and genuine care.

Boys & Girls Aid youth:

Are over the age of 12

Have experienced neglect, abuse or family substance use

May be struggling with mental health issues or other challenges

Stay for varying lengths of time, from a few days up to three months

Boys & Girls Aid believes all youth can build on their own strengths and play an integral role in planning their futures. Youth meet with counselors regularly to make individualized plans.

How are foster parents supported? At Boys & Girls Aid, foster parents are respected partners in the care of our youth.

We offer quality benefits, resources and an exceptionally responsive staff to help create a successful outcome for all.

Boys & Girls Aid provides:

Professional staff available 24/7

Foster parent support groups

Ongoing professional training

Paid respite care

Monthly tax-free stipend

What is the process? We want to ensure that potential foster parents are well equipped for their roles in caring for the youth we serve, and that they all offer safe and stable homes. These are the steps to becoming a Boys & Girls Aid foster parent:

Attend an information session to learn more

Fill out and submit an application.

Complete paperwork for background checks (DMV, FBI, Child Welfare)

Attend training to learn about what to expect from Boys & Girls Aid and the youth we serve

Provide references and complete additional paperwork

Meet with staff who will conduct interviews and complete a home study

Receive a program specific orientation

Once these are completed and your home has been approved, you will become part of the Boys & Girls Aid team and be ready to accept a youth in your home!

I just want a family to let me be who I am.
