System OperationControl, AMERICAN_AIRLINE$AA!, 4601Highway 350,"Fort Worth, Texas 76l55,> 817!9677lO0, was interviewed at his place ofemploymentl After being advised of the identities of the interviewingagents and the purpose of the interview, MARQUIS provided the followinginformation: ' - I '

    ' OnSeptember ll, 2001, at approximately 7:25 a.m. Central

Standard Time, MARQUIS received a telephone call fromthe number 3flight attendant on board Flight ll, identified by the crew manifest asB.A, ONG {ONG!, AA employee number 131804. This telephone callwas''"ved by NIDIAGONZALES, 1

Efij;i;ij:;fjiran AAsupervisorattheRaleigh ReservaCenteort aro ina. The callwas transferred to central dispatch in Fort

Worth, Texas, because therewas adisturbance on board and the flightcrew was not ableto contact the cockpit. ONG wanted central dispatchto contact the cockpit. MARQUIS first confirmed thatONG was an AAflight attendant. ' .' '

, Duringthis telephone call,ONG reported thatthere was apassenger onboard who was armedwith aknife. vThispassenger was

seated in 103 and was identified as TQM ELSUQANI phonetic!. whenMARQUIS first heard this, he thought that the knife might have been aSwiss army knife of some sort because it was not that uncommon forpassengers to have these. ONG then informed MARQUIS that the passengerin seat 9B, DAVID LEWIN, had been fatally stabbed and that the number1flight attendant, K.A. MARTIN MARTIN!, AA-employee number307280, hadbeen stabbed as well. MARTIN was in bad shape and was currently on ioxygen. Besides these two individuals, the number 5 flight attendant,"B. ARESTEGUI, AA employee number 167762, had been superficially woundedby the passenger with the knife. y .

i Inaddition to these injuries, there were twomen trying to 1gain accessto the cockpit, and by this time, all passengers had beenremoved from first class. After the men gained access to the cockpit,

QNG couldhear loud arguingfrom the cockpit area.- ONG also mentionedthat there was something in the air that made it hard to breath. This

I " There was.no doctor on board Flight ll to help-the injured;pas aresult, MARQUIS wanted the aircraft to land at the next available

airport. Because of the medical emergencies and the violence, MARQUISintended for.medical personnel and law enforcement to meet the aircraftas soon as it landed. MARQUIS had the flight tagged as aconfirmed yhijacking and contacted air traffic control ATC! regarding the -

situation. MARQUIS informed the Iof what washappening with Flight lland instructed her to contact the crewimmediately and to perform a rangeanalysis giventhe amount of fuel onthe aircraft. ATC reportedly heard arguing over the microphone, -hearing astatement to the effect of "either turn hack or we'llkill

you."The pilot apparently keyed the microphone at some point duringthese events thereby allowing ATC to hear part of what was happening. It was thought that these transmissions were recorded by ATC,in thiscase Boston ATC. During the time in which the telephone conversationoccurred, the aircraft flewerratically and was descending in altitude. The transponder was turned off, but ATC was handling thisflight as aconfirmed hijacking and was attempting to track it. 4

hung uthe tele hone, MARQUIS received acall

frmm[:::::fffE:ifiif:ffi anAAI|at John F.KennedyInternational Airport in New York, New York. ||reported smokecoming from the World Trade Center and asked what was happening. Basedupon his conversation with: MARQUIS figuredthe impact of Flightllwas close to 7:49 a.m., corresponding to the end of the telephone -call from ONG. [::::::]called again at approximately 8:10 a.m- and stated that the NEW YORK PORT AUTHORITY confirmed that both towers ofthe World Trade Center were on fireand that an AA aircraft wasinvolved. '' *I " I

' Although unsure, MARQUIS thought that his telephoneconversation with ONG,was recorded. He would ascertain whether the

conversation was recorded and would notify the FEDERAL BUREAU OFINVESTIGATION regarding this. The number 9 flight attendant, M.SWEENEY, AA employee number 129043, telephoned the AA Flight ServicesDepartment in Boston, Massachusetts. _ - a-' _

Regarding the hijacking of Flight 77, the aircraft hadcrashed before AA really knew that anything was happening on board.W AAwas concentrating on Flight ll and did not realize the peril on Flight77 until it was too, late. - -
