outstanding service to God and the church through music. If you know of someone that you would like to nominate for

this award, please submit your nomination with an explanation why you believe this person is deserving of this honor.

Email your submissions to [email protected], [email protected] or give a hard copy to either Cary or Anthony. You do

I have an announcement to make, and I could not be more

excited about it! Our original published date is being

rescheduled for a later date to be announced. The night will

be called ‘Risen’, and it is going to be a celebration of what

Christ did on the cross for us and how we are made free

through Him. This is an opportunity, during the Easter

season, to take some time out of our busy schedules to focus

on Christ, connect with other believers, and worship through

music.

Another aspect of the night that is exciting is that our nine 30

band will debuting all of the new songs that we will be

introducing in our services throughout 2016. How will we know all of these songs on that night if they are all new? Great

question! Beginning in February, the entire set list will be made available both through social media (Facebook/Twitter/

Church Website) so that you can log on and listen to all of the songs that will be sung that night. This will give everyone

attending an opportunity to get to learn and become familiar with the songs before we come together.

I encourage you to think through who you could invite to this event. Easter is an awesome time to focus on worshiping

the risen King, and our ‘Risen’ Night of Worship is the perfect time to do it! So put it on your calendars now, and be on

the look out for the set list to be posted. I look forward to worshipping with all of you at ‘Risen’. - Anthony

Treasurer’s Update

March 2016 “Get Out and Vote”

Brothers and Sisters in Christ. I have been watching the 2016 Presidential race with great interest and noted how each of the candidates have been pleading with the electorate to get out and cast their vote in an effort to improve their chances of beating their opponents and garnering the nomination. As a member of the community it is indeed our civic responsibility to participate in the process, educate ourselves about the candidates and respond to the call and take time to cast our ballot to select who we believe will best govern our nation for the next term. It then occurred to me how wonderful it would be if everyone carried that same or even higher sense of responsi-bility towards being a member of the Christian community. Educating ourselves about Christ’s teachings and responding to the call to be and making disciples of Christ. We closed our books for January 2016 and broke even for the month in operations, taking in $67,000 and spending that same amount. Our weekly operating inflow for January was $12,477 compared to our budgeted requirement of $17,424. The intake for the first week in February was $14,673. Keep in mind that the first week is normally higher than the rest of the month. Let us continue to pray for growth of our UMCPB community. In His Stewardship

Missions "We must be global Christians with a global vision because our God is a global God." – John Stott

It is the hope of the missions’ team this year to provide our congregation with a global vision so that

together as a Church we may become global Christians. Our Church currently maintains relationships with

several ministries overseas, as well as two sister churches in Cuba and a school for children in Haiti.

In 2016 we will be looking for ways to expand our foreign efforts, as well as searching out opportunities

for our worshiping community to demonstrate the love of Christ domestically. Please be a global Christian

and support the missions of the United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches with your time, your

finances, and your prayers.

CROS Pantry: Bring in some extra nonperishable items for the CROS Food Pantry. Please remember

the CROS Food Box is in the kitchen serving area.

Mission Boxes: Donations to the Mission Boxes for March will go toward our overseas missions in

Cuba, Peru, Haiti, and India. Thank you for your continued generosity.

Extend A Personal Invitation to Church Page 5

There are many different ways that people end up stumbling upon a church. For decades, pastors and

church members alike have been trying to find the most effective method of bringing in new members. It

has been a riddle that has continued to stump many. Recently, studies have been done by many

prominent pastors and church leaders in that exact area; how to get more people in your church. The

findings are both alarming and, possibly, obvious. Personal invitation is the way to go! Check out these

staggering statistics about inviting people to church.

82% of unchurched people responded that they would at least

check out a church once if invited by someone personally.

Only 2% of church members invite an unchurched person to church.

98% of people do not invite anyone to church with them in a given

year.

Four percent of formerly churched adults are actively looking for a

church to attend regularly (other than their previous church).

Six percent would prefer to resume attending regularly in the same

church they had attended.

The largest group, 62% is not actively looking but is open to

the idea of attending church regularly again.

7 out of 10 unchurched people have never been invited to church in their whole lives.

Only 4% of Palm Beach County goes to church. That means that, yes, 96 percent of people living in

PBC do not attend church on a Sunday.

On average, it takes up to 10 times being invited to church for an unchurched person to finally

attend.

All in all, as you can see, the statistics support the fact that the most effective way to grow our church

and see more people get saved is to personally invite them. Could you imagine if every current church

member invited 3 people to church this week. Even if only one of the three came, we would double our

numbers in one week. I invite you to pray for 5 people that you can invite to church this upcoming

month. It can be a friend, coworker, or family member. God will give you the courage and the words to

say, just be open and willing to what he would have you do. Submitted by Anthony Hevia

Ironmen Page 12

The Annual Ironmen Retreat was held from Friday January 29th to Sunday, January 31st. The venue for the retreat was the beautiful Methodist Retreat Center in LaBelle Florida.

Approximately thirty five (35) of our church brothers were in attendance, noteworthy is the number of first time participants. This was a very diverse group of men representing all age groups and ethnic backgrounds within our church membership.

The theme for this year’s retreat was “Reset” and the appropriate scriptural reference was Psalm 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.

Pastor Kent did a wonderful job providing leadership during our group sessions, expounding on our retreat theme and scriptural reference. Several of our participants stepped forward to provide testimonies which were well appreciated by all. Judging from the overall reaction there is no doubt that God was using these individuals to bring a message that we all have a need to “Reset” our lives and priorities in line with Christ’s will for our lives.

Adequate time was built into the retreat schedule to allow for fellowship, games, quiet time and other individual pursuits.

By 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, we wrapped up our retreat, having hit the “Reset” button which was symbolically displayed, and departed the retreat facility with renewed determination to face the challenges of daily living.

“I can’t wait until next year.” A guest

“Thank you for letting me be part of this wonderful evening.” A volunteer

“Best Party Ever” A volunteer

“Just wanted to say that my kids really enjoyed the dance very much.” A parent

“Feeling blessed to be a blessing.” A volunteer

And if you have seen my daughter, Ashley, you have noticed that she still has her crown on a week later. That is

a testimony in and of itself.

Seeing the joy and smiles on our guests’ faces was truly seeing the Reign of God. Night to Shine was a blessing

to the guests, to the volunteers and to our church. And, most importantly, it was a night for Jesus Christ to shine

at UMCPB.

Thank you to all who made this Night to Shine possible.

Much Heart,

Phyllis Parthemer

FAMILY LIFE Page 15

Happy New Year from the Family Life Committee! We are excited about all the fun activities we will be involved with in 2016. Our first big event is the

Church Wide Picnic on Sunday, April 10 starting at 1PM at the Alligator Pavilion in Okeeheelee

Park just west of Jog Road on Forest Hill Blvd.

This pavilion area features lots of fun things to do like two huge playgrounds (one for preschoolers and the other for older children), fishing, biking and an exercise trail. You can even rent canoes, kayaks and bikes there. There will be more details as the event gets closer, but please mark you calendars for a spectacular picnic on 4/10/16.

The dates are also set for the

Church Family Camping Trip in Labelle on November 4th -6th

This year we would like to have even more events that will be affordable, fun and family friendly like beach hang out days, movie nights, and maybe a Summer Wednesday night pot luck dinner.

Family Christmas Party on December 18th
