• 842 million people in the world do not have enough to eat
• Asia has the largest number of hungry people (over 500 million)
• 80 percent of the world stunted children lives in just 20 countries (developing and low income countries)

Why is this happening?
• 1.3 billion tones of food is lost or wasted that can be saved by improving supply chain.
• Every year thousands of tones of food grain rots in India due to lack of proper warehouse facilities.
• Food is also wasted at consumption stage.
• Lack of accessibility due to unaffordable food prices for low income groups.

A look at the Indian food Scenario
Supreme court of India directed the Central Government to distribute food grains rotting due to neglect among the poor at “low cost or no cost.”

The Central pool stocks of rice and wheat had reached 604.28 lakh tones. But there was no space to stop the produce and 178 lakh tones of wheat was stored in Covered and Plinth.

This destruction of food is a calamity for a country where the UN estimates 64% of its people are still incapable of placing two meals on the table. In Zambia, the average rural farmer is estimated to survive on less than $2 per day.
