Fund A Need Providence Care Centre

Specialized Equipment - Overhead Lifts

For the resident that is dependent on a wheelchair for much or all of their mobility, a system of overhead lifts will comfortably and safely transfer the resident from their bed to the bathroom, and to their wheelchair as required in a timely manner. The overhead lift gives them a sense of security and allows them to retain their dignity. Other major benefits are the avoidance of cross contamination thus supporting our infection control practices, and reducing musculoskeletal injuries for staff who provide the care. Originally only 30 suites of the 160 suites in the Providence Care Centre were designated for the provision of ‘long-term care’ – for those with complex unpredictable medical needs who require 24/7 care. We accomplished our original goal to install an overhead system of lifts that ensured that each of the 30 ‘long-term care’ suites had an overhead lift with two personal slings available for the resident In Fall 2015, the number of suites designated for long term care increased from 30 suites to 94 suites. Fortunately, the supporting infrastructure for overhead lifts was built in to each suite during construction of the Providence Care Centre. We need your financial assistance to renovate, install the track, purchase the motor that will connect to the track and two slings for each resident. Over the Christmas period, with the support of several generous donors we were able to raise the funds necessary to start installing 8 overhead lifts in the Baywood neighbourhood. This leaves us with the challenge of raising the funds for the balance of 56 overhead lifts for the second floor. Your financial support of this endeavour is greatly appreciated. Tax receipts are issued for all donations.

Providence Care Centre

The dream, that has been 105 years in the making, is now a reality for the Sisters of Providence. It was an emotional and exciting day on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, as the Providence Care Centre opened the doors to its first residents. The Foundation continues to raise funds to cover the costs of furniture, medical equipment, tablets for supporting health care and recreational equipment. As this is spring, we are starting to promote the need for the gardens. Grass is very nice, but meandering pathways, benches to rest on, raised garden boxes and raised flower beds offer interest for residents and their families. Trellises and gazebos help to shelter fragile skin from the sun. For those residents with sight impairments, the gardens offer a variety of sounds to stimulate the senses. Our other major focus is raising funds for the Chapel; the Sacred Centre of the Providence Care Centre. Government funding is not available for construction therefore we need to secure the funds before we build. Work will get underway this summer on developing the design of the Chapel. There are several naming opportunities remaining for those who would like to leave a legacy. Donations can be pledged over three years. We make it as easy for you to donate by accepting cash, cheques, Visa, Mastercard or publicly traded stocks. We would welcome the opportunity to tailor recognition to suit you. All gifts are tax receipted.
