MEETING THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES – PART 1This Artifact will demonstrate my knowledge about:
1. Research Skill2. Creative power point skill3. Accommodation of children with special need in the program
Created By - FATEMA AKTER
RESEARCH I did research on Spina Bifida and how I could accommodate and meet the needs of a individual child who has Spina Bifida and her family in my school age program. While doing research, I got help from the internet and class resources. I was careful about the reliability of the websites that I used in my research.
CREATIVE My creativity and development of
technological skills are demonstrated through power point presentation slides that I had made for Meeting the Needs of Individual Child assignment. Next two slides are the demonstration of my creativity
INTRODUCTION TO THE INDIVIDUAL SPECIAL NEED (SPINA BIFIDA)(SONIA IS A CHILD WHO HAS SPINA BIFIDA, A SHUNT AND USES WHEEL CHAIR)
What is Spina Bifida? When “A baby’s spinal cord (the
nerves that run down the spine) does not develop normally during pregnancy, the child can have a physical disability called Spina Bifida” (Inclusion of Children with Special Needs: Reading Package, Part One). What is Shunt? Shunt is surgical procedure done to drain and reabsorbed the cerebrospinal fluid.
In Canada, about 1 out of every 2,500 babies is born with some type of Spina Bifida.
HOW TO MEET THE NEEDS IN THE CHILD CARE SETTING?
Physical Environment Modification:
Wide space to move the wheel chair Gently sloped ramps with hand rails Move less necessary furniture to the
hallway if possible Floor is covered with carpet Accessible bathroom Tabletop easels for children who wish to read, draw
or pain seated in their wheelchair
BENEFIT FOR DOING THIS ASSIGNMENT Improved my knowledge about
special need and how to meet the special need of individual child and her family
Improved my research knowledge
Improved my technology skill
