- 3. Consider the following example.
- 4. Lets call the dividend a and the divisor b.
- 5. Divide the first two digits of a by b. In this example, 195 = 3 with a remainder of 4.
- 6. Write down the quotient and insert the remainder into a (ahead of the next digit).
- 7. Divide the following two digits of a by b. In this example, 465 = 9 with a remainder of 1.
- 8. Append the quotient to the result and insert the remainder into a (ahead of the next digit).
- 9. Divide the following two digits of a by b. In this example, 155 = 3 with a remainder of 0.
- 10. Append the quotient to the result and insert the remainder into a (ahead of the next digit).
- 11. Divide the following two digits of a by b. In this example, 55 = 1 with a remainder of 0.
- 12. Append the quotient to the result.
- 13. This is the last digit and the remainder is zero. The result is the answer.
